• In SAW filters with a small aperture, diffraction effect is not negligible and degrades the frequency response near the trap. A computer simulation program for diffraction analysis is developed, and an effective diffraction compensation method is proposed to compensate the diffraction effect. A TV-lF SAW filter was designed with the diffraction taken account by the proposed method, which satisfies given frequency specifications.

  • In this paper, we have implemented the low temperature fluidity test system with the composited fuel filter and heater, which has tested the low temperature fluidity of gasoline, an engine start time, the consumption of electricity and power to evaluate the system performance. The test condition have used the diesel fuel, the normal temperature, the diesel fuel supply pressure $3.4kgf/cm^2$ at $-20{\sim}-30^{\circ}C$, the fuel supply quantization 60 l/H, the setting current 30 A and the voltage $13V_{dc}$. In order to simulate the operation of diesel fuel filter, we will establish the composited fuel filter into test jig, and be filled with chamber tank and filter by a constant flow quantization and pressure. After these, it shall be cold for setting time. And then we have measured the consumption current and power of heater, an operating time and pressure of filter.

  • In the affine projection algorithm(APA), the projection dimension depends on a number of projection basis and of elements of input vector used for updating of coefficients of the adaptive filter. The projection dimension is closely related to a convergence speed of the APA, and it determines computational complexity. As the adaptive filter approaches to steady state, convergence speed is decreased. Therefore it is possible to reduce projection dimension that determines convergence speed. In this paper, we proposed the variable dimension affine projection algorithm (VDAPA) that controls the projection dimension and uses the relation between variations of coefficients of the adaptive filter and convergence speed of the APA. The proposed method reduces computational complexity of the APA by modifying the number of projection basis on convergence state. For demonstrating the good performances of the proposed method, simulation results are compared with the APA and normalized LMS algorithm in convergence speed and computational quantity.

  • In this paper, we propose an average approximation filter which can effectively remove the noises of the images. The noises include impulse noises, gaussian noises and mixed noises. The algorithm is as follows. First, as a step of noise detection, we find whether the difference between the pixel value and the average value is greater than the threshold value or not after getting the average value that removed the minimum and maximum values in the applied mask. If the pixel value is greater than the threshold value, the pixel value is processed as noise. If it is less than or equal to the threshold value, it is processed as non-noise. Next, as the noise reduction step, we output the approximate value in mask as the pixel value and the average value except the minimum and maximum values of the pixel including the noise. As the result of applying this average approximation filter to the mixed noise images, the approximation filter can reduce the noises effectively more than 0.4[dB] as compared with applying the median filter and the average filter, respectively.

  • A variety of filters are applied to improve the quality of noise and low resolution medical images. This is necessary to reduce the radiation dose of the patient and to improve the utilization of the conventional spherical imaging equipment. In the conventional method, it is common to perform filtering using the CPU of the PC. However, it is difficult to produce results in real time by applying various calculations and filters to high-resolution human images using only the CPU performance of a PC used in a hospital. In this paper, we analyze the structure and performance of Intel integrated GPU in CPU and propose a method to perform image filtering using OpenCL parallel processing function. By applying complex filters with high computational complexity to medical images, high quality images can be generated in real time.

  • We proposed a novel method to remove PM2.5 dusts without HEPA filters aiming at applications in kitchens or enclosed work spaces generating PM2.5 at high concentrations. Many workers are exposed to PM2.5 owing to lack of air purification because the high replacement costs of HEPA filters make their application impractical. A key idea is to use the condensational growth of nanoparticles. Once particles grow to the size of a few micrometers, it is much easier to remove them because of their increased inertia. We developed and tested a prototype consisting of an air saturator (equipped with water spray nozzles), a condenser in which humid air was cooled down to make the particles grow, and a multi-impactor assembly for collecting the grown particles.

  • This paper proposes a new digital filter implementation which adopts an identical structure at both behavioral and logic level in top-down design. This methodology is based on the observation that multiplication is a form of convolution and carrying, and therefore multiplication is implemented with the same structure as that of a convolution in a recursive manner at the logic level. In order to demonstrate a recursive structure-based FIR digital filter, we select L-tap transposed and systolic FIR filters, and implement them to have a single structure. The proposed filter design becomes regular and modular because of the recursive adoption of a single structure for convolutions, and is very compact in that it needs only two 1-bit I/O ports in addition to significant improvement on hardware complexity without time penalty on the output sequence.

  • Recently, processor performance has been improved dramatically. Unfortunately, as the process technology scales down, energy consumption in a processor increases significantly whereas the processor performance continues to improve. Moreover, peak temperature in the processor increases dramatically due to the increased power density, resulting in serious thermal problem. For this reason, performance, energy consumption and thermal problem should be considered together when designing up-to-date processors. This paper proposes three modified filter cache schemes to alleviate the thermal problem in the filter cache, which is one of the most energy-efficient design techniques in the hierarchical memory systems : Bypass Filter Cache (BFC), Duplicated Filter Cache (DFC) and Partitioned Filter Cache (PFC). BFC scheme enables the direct access to the L1 cache when the temperature on the filter cache exceeds the threshold, leading to reduced temperature on the filter cache. DFC scheme lowers temperature on the filter cache by appending an additional filter cache to the existing filter cache. The filter cache for PFC scheme is composed of two half-size filter caches to lower the temperature on the filter cache by reducing the access frequency. According to our simulations using Wattch and Hotspot, the proposed partitioned filter cache shows the lowest peak temperature on the filter cache, leading to higher reliability in the processor.
