Lengthening and shortening processes in Korean

  • This study examines the duration of Korean lax and tense stops in the prosodic word-medial position, their interactions with nearby segments, and the phonological implications of these interactions. It first examines the lengthening of consonants at the function of the short lax stop. Experiment 1 shows that the sonorant C1 is significantly longer before a short lax stop C2 than before a long tense stop. Experiment 2 shows that the short lax stop C1 cancels the contrast between the lax and tense obstruent at C2, making them appear as long tense obstruents (Post-Stop Tensing Rule). We suggest that such lengthening phenomena occur in Korean to robustly preserve the contrastive length difference between C and CC. Second, this study examines the vowel shortening, known as Closed-Syllable Vowel Shortening, before a long tense stop or before the consonant sequence. Experiment 3 suggests that it be interpreted as temporal adjustment to make the interval from the onset of a vowel to the onset of the following vowel of near-equal length. Conclusively, we suggest that Korean speech be planned and controlled with two specific intervals. One is the duration of contrastive consonant intervals between vowels, and the other is the duration from the onset of a vowel to the onset of the following vowel.

  • A New Method of Extracting the Filter Characteristics of the Nasal Cavity Using Homorganic Nasal-Stop Sequences: A Preliminary R eportHansang ParkThis study provides a new method of extracting the filter characteristics of the nasal cavity. Korean lenis stops are realized as voiced in the homorganic nasal-lenis stop sequences between vowels. Since the only difference between the two members of the homorganic nasal- lenis stop sequences, such as [mb], [nd], and [ g], is whether the passage to the nasal cavity is open or not, the subtraction of the LPC spectrum of the voiced stop from that of the preceding nasal leads to the filter characteristics of the nasal cavity of an individual speaker regardless of place of articulation. The results suggest that various attempts should be made to extract a robust filter characteristics of the nasal cavity by giving variation to LPC coefficients and by paying particular attention to speech samples. This study is significant in that it provides a preliminary report about a new method of extracting the filter characteristics of the nasal cavity.

  • Adaptive cruise control Stop&Go system has been developed to reduce the driver's workload on highway or public road. This system is characterized by a moderate control of engine and brake actuator. A control system capable of modeling driver's driving characteristics has been constructed to provide natural vehicle behavior in full speed driving. But, ACC Stop&Go system has some limitations. One of the limitations is a detection limitation on near cut-in situation. This paper presents development of the near cut-in test procedure, finding of the limitation value on near cut-in scenario and performance comparisons on ACC Stop&Go system.

  • This paper describes the effects of applied bias conditions on electrochemical etch-stop characteristics. THere are a number of key issues such as diode leakage and ohmic losses which arise when applying the conventional 3-electrochemical etch-stop to fabricated some of he MEMS(microelectro mechanical system) and SOI(Si-on-insulator) structures which employ SDB(Si-wafer direct bonding). This work allows to perform anin situ diagnostic to predict whether or not an electrochemical etch-stop would fail due to diode-leakage-induced premature passivation. In addition, it presents technology which takes into account the effects of ohmic losses and allows to calculate the appropriate bias necessary to obtain a successful electrochemical etch-stop.

무인 설비 감시용 레일 가이드 구동장치에서 BLDC 전동기의 위치 제어 (A Position Control of BLDC Motor in a Rail Guided System for the Un-maned Facility Security)

  • A low-cost BLDC motor with hall sensor is used to drive the position control of a facility security monitoring system in this paper. Low measurable frequency of the hall sensor signal in low-speed regions results in difficulty in obtaining accurate speed detection and position control. To improve system control performance, we propose a variable gain of position controller and stop mode control scheme according to the motor speed and error position with pre-set deceleration time. The proposed stop mode control scheme is activated around the stop position to forcibly move the BLDC motor to the stop position in low speed. In the proposed stop mode, the motor current is controlled by the actual speed with the reference rotating angle. The control performance of the proposed position control is verified through experiments at the actual rail guided facility security monitoring system.

교통시뮬레이션 모형을 이용한 램프미터링 정지선 설정에 따른 효과분석 (The Effectiveness Analysis on Set of Ramp Metering STOP-line Using Traffic Simulation Model)

  • PURPOSES : This study performs fundamental research on ramp-metering design criteria. METHODS : We carefully review previous studies in terms of ramp-metering design criteria and then consider applicability in Korea. For this, traffic simulation model is employed to analyze actual effect according to specific location of stop-line when implementing ramp-metering. RESULTS : When a stop-line moving forward with a 50m interval, travel speed at mainline relative to current stop-line location tends to decrease. However, traveling speed at approach roads increase about 5~18% under the same condition. When a stop-line location moving backward with a 50m interval, mainline travel speed increase approximately 17~32% whereas traveling speed at approach roads decrease. All cases are compared with the current stop-line location. CONCLUSIONS : We believe that both cases are useful with respect to freeway management. For example, moving forward a stop-line case can be used management for queuing area at ramp section and approach roads. Moving backward a stop-line case can be used for traffic control, focusing on mainline of freeways.

신호기위치와 정지선 준수율과의 관계 연구 (The Study on the Correlation between Traffic Signal Location and Stop Line Observance)

  • 경찰은 2005년 정지선 준수율 향상을 위하여 '정지선 지키기 생활화 운동'과 함께 정지선위반 단속을 수행하였다. 단속기간 동안 정지선 준수율이 향상되었으나, 단속기간 이후 정지선 준수율은 단속 이전 수준으로 회귀되어 캠페인 및 단속을 통한 정지선 준수율 향상 노력의 장기적인 실효성 문제가 지적되었다. 교통안전시설물(신호기) 설치위치 조정 등의 교통환경 개선을 통해 장기적이며 근본적인 정지선 준수율 향상 필요성이 공론화 되고 있으나 해당분야의 기초 연구가 부재하다. 본 연구는 신호기 설치위치에 따른 차량의 정지선 준수율 변화 여부를 분석 및 제시한다. 현장자료를 토대로 수행한 통계분석 결과 신호기 위치에 따라 정지선 준수율이 변화하며, 정지선으로부터 신호기까지의 거리가 $10{\sim}20m$일 경우 정지선 준수율이 높아지는 것으로 분석되었다. '교통신호기설치관리매뉴얼'에서 허용하는 신호기 설치위치 범위에 포함되는 정지선 하류 $10{\sim}20m$의 위치를 신호기 적정 설치위치로 제안한다.

  • This paper presents the electrochemical etch-stop characteristics of single-crystal silicon in a tetramethyl ammonium hyciroxide(TMAH):isopropyl alcohol(IPA):pyrazine solution. Addition of pyrazine to a TMAH:IPA etchant increases the etch-rate of (100) silicon, thus the elapsed time for etch-stop was shortened. The current-voltage(I-V) characteristics of n- and p-type silicon in a TMAH:IPA:pyrazine solution were obtained, respectively. Open circuit potential(OCP) and passivation potential(PP) of n- and p-type silicon, respectively, were obtained and applied potential was selected between n- and p-type silicon PP. The electrochemical etch-stop is applied to the fabrication of 801 microdiaphragms having $20\;{\mu}m$ thickness on a 5-inch silicon wafer. The averge thicknesses of 801 microdiaphragms fabricated on the one wafer were $20.03\;{\mu}m$ and standard deviation was ${\pm}0.26{\mu}m$. The silicon surface of the etch-stopped microdiaphragm was extremely flat without noticeable taper or other nonuniformities. The benefits of the electrochemical etch-stop in a TMAH:IPA:pyrazine solution become apparent when reproducibility in the microdiaphragm thickness for mass production is considered. These results indicate that the electrochemical etch-stop in a TMAH:IPA:pyrazine solution provides a powerful and versatile alternative process for fabricating high-yield silicon microdiaphragms.

  • In this paper, Solar, Wind, fuel cell used in a Power conversion devices and industrial inverter motor to increase the efficiency of energy consumption, which is a core part of high-efficiency, high-voltage Trench Gate Field Stop IGBT was studied. For this purpose Planar type NPT IGBT and Planar type Field Stop IGBT have designed a basic structure designed to Trench Gate Field Stop IGBT based on the completed structure by analyzing the energy consumption of electrical characteristics, efficiency is a key part, high-efficiency and high-voltage inverter for industry regarding the optimization design for Trench Gate Field Stop IGBT.

Comparison of Random and Blocked Practice during Performance of the Stop Signal Task

  • Purpose: We investigated the changes in the stop-signal reaction time (SSRT) and the no-signal reaction time (NSRT) following motor sequential learning in the stop-signal task (SST). This study also determined which of the reduction0s of spatial processing time was better between blocked- and random-SST. Methods: Thirty right-handed healthy subjects without a history of neurological dysfunction were recruited. In all subjects, both the SSRT and the NSRT were measured for the SST. Tasks were classified into two categories based on the stop-signal patterns, the blocked-SST practice group and random-SST practice group. All subjects gave written informed consent. Results: In the blocked-SST group, both the SSRT and the NSRT was significantly decreased (p<0.05) but not significantly changed in the random-SST group. In the SSRT and the NSRT, the blocked-SST group was faster than the random-SST group (p<0.05). In the post-test SST after practice of each group, the SSRT was significantly decreased in the random-SST group (p<0.05), but the NSRT showed no significant changes in either group. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate that random-SST practice resulted in a decrease in internal processing times needed for a rapid stop to visual signals, indicating motor skill learning is acquired through improved response selection and inhibition.
