Hub cells comprise a niche for germline stem cells and cyst stem cells in the Drosophila testis. Hub cells arise from common somatic gonadal precursors in embryos, but the mechanism of their specification is still poorly understood. Here we find that RNA binding proteins Lin28 and Imp mediate transcript stability of Bowl, a known hub specification factor; Bowl transcripts were reduced in the testis of Lin28 and Imp mutants, and also when RNA-mediated interference against Lin28 or Imp was expressed in hub cells. In tissue culture Luciferase assays involving the Bowl 3'UTR, stability of Luc reporter transcripts depended on the Bowl 3'UTR and required Lin28 and Imp. Our findings suggest that proper Bowl function during hub cell specification requires Lin28 and Imp in the testis hub cells.

본 연구에서는 관심거리가 되고 있는 마코프인쇄 몬테칼로(Markov Chain Monte Carlo, MCMC)방법에 근거한 공간 확률난수 (spatial random variate)생성법과 깁스표본추출법(Gibbs sampling)에 의한 베이지안 분석 방법에 대한 기술적 사항들에 관하여 검토하였다. 먼저 기본적인 확률난수 생성법과 관련된 사항을 살펴보고, 다음으로 조건부명시법(conditional specification)을 이용한 공간 확률난수 생성법을 예를 들어 살펴보기로한다. 다음으로는 이렇게 생성된 공간자료를 분석하기 위하여 깁스표본추출법을 이용한 베이지안 사후분포를 구하는 방법을 살펴보았다.

A study to build a reliability model of electronic ballasts for the fluorescent lamp has been performed in this study. We selected the widely being used specification, MIL-HDBK-217 for the study. We briefly reviewed the basic concepts of the electronic ballast with the selected reliability specification. We then developed a reliability model for the ballast using MIL-HDBK-217 and predicted the reliability. We further provided some guides which should be considered in future model development.

We have developed an MPEG2 realtime codec system and ATM interface, and evaluated the performance and characteristics of the audio-visual communication in terms of Interoperability specification of The ATM Forum, ITU-T H.310 draft recommendation [1] and the reference points of DAVIC specification through the experiments using the experimental public ATM network.

In supply chain, the quality level of assembly factory depends on the quality levels of suppliers and it is very important to integrate efforts improving the quality levels between producer and suppliers, In this paper, we consider an integrated determination problem of quality specification levels of suppliers. The cost model is developed and the optimal policy under a specific model assumption is obtained. A numerical example is studied.

Discharge capacity of PBD is the most important factor of specification items to control any product of PBD. There is no standard specification for the PBD. Because the degree of discharge capacity is related to well resistance, install depth, maximum strain etc in the field. Discharge capacity test of PBD, permeability test of filter are conducted using PBD materials used in Korea. This paper proposes the critical discharge capacity for deep PBD under condition of non well resistance based upon their test and theoretical calculation. It was found that discharge capacity more than about 10 ㎤/sec is enough to undergo designing of deep PBD without well resistance.

This paper suggested that the technical specification of tilting train EMU for speed up on existing lines. High speed strategy of existing lines are the modification of railway system which are made on cant, lengths of transition curves, the catenary system and train system. Tilting technology is more useful a strategy for speed increases on existing lines with low investment needed. We performed a feasibility study which is considered out real track conditions and designed propulsion and braking system of tilting EMU system.

Neural networks are explored as an alternative to a regres-sion model for prediction of the number of daily household vehicular trips. This study focuses on contrasting a neural network model with a regression model in term of variable selection as well as the appli-cation of these models for prediction of extreme observations, The differences in the models regarding data transformation variable selec-tion and multicollinearity are considered. The results indicate that the neural network model is a viable alternative to the regression model for addressing both messy data problems and limitation in variable structure specification.
