A Human Case of Clinostomum complanatum Infection in Korea

  • A 33-year-old Korean man visited a medical clinic with complaints of throat discomfort and pain for one week. The symptoms occurred one day after eating raw brackish water fish, perch. Endoscopy revealed a fluke, about 5 mm in length, attaching to and peristaltically moving on the surface of the mucosa at the arytenoid region of the larynx. Microscopically, the testes were triangular, tandem, and separated by the uterus. The ovary and cirrus pouch were placed apart from median line between testes. Numerous blood cells were observed in the ceca. The worm was identified to be Clinostomum complanatum. This is the second human case of clinostomiasis in Korea.

Diphyllobothrium latum infection in a child with recurrent abdominal pain

  • Diphyllobothrium latum infection in humans is not common in Republic of Korea. We report a case of fish tapeworm infection in a 10-year-old boy after ingestion of raw perch about 8 months ago. The patient complained of recurrent abdominal pain and watery diarrhea. A tapeworm, 85 cm in length, without scolex and neck, was spontaneously discharged in the feces of the patient. The patient was treated with 15-mg/kg single dose praziquantel, and follow-up stool examination was negative after one month. There was no evidence of relapse during the next six months.

Cytogenetic Study of Pleuronectes obscurus, Konosirus punctatus and Pseudoblennius percoides

  • Our objective was to clarify the cytogenetic characteristics, including karyotypes, cellular DNA content, and nuclear size of erythrocytes, of black plaice Pleuronectes obscurus, dotted gizzard shad Konosirus punctatus, and perch sculpin Pseudoblennius percoides, collected from the coastal areas of Jo Island, Busan, Korea. Karyotypes of P. obscurus and K. punctatus both had a diploid number of 48 and a fundamental number (FN) of 48, with a chromosome formula of 48T. The karyotype of p. percoides had a diploid number of 46 and FN of 56, with a chromosome formula of 10SM +36T. No sex-associated heteromorphic pairs were detected for any species. The variation in DNA values (P. obscurus=1.15 pg/nucleus, K. punctatus=1.56pg/nucleus, P. percoides=1.11 pg/nucleus) was positively related to variation in chromosome FN.

자호천에 서식하는 꺽지(Coreoperca herzi)의 생태 특징 (Ecological Characteristics of Korean Aucha Perch, Coreoperca herzi in Jaho Stream, Korea)

  • 꺽지(Coreoperca herzi)의 생태적 특징을 연구하기 위해 2018년 9월부터 2019년 8월까지 자호천에서 조사를 실시하였다. 본 종은 하천 중류역에 분포하며 하상구조는 작은돌(cobble)과 조약돌(pebble)이 풍부한 여울이었으며, 수심은 32~157 cm 이었고, 유속은 0.64±0.28 (0.32~1.28) m/sec로 빨랐다. 암수 성비는 1 : 0.93 이었고, 전장빈도분포도에 따른 연령은 전장 42~80 mm가 만1년생, 80~130 mm은 만 2년생, 130~200 mm가 만 3년생, 200 mm 이상이 만 4년생 이상으로 추정되었다. 생식가능 전장의 크기는 암컷이 65 mm, 수컷은 70 mm 이상으로 나타나 실험실에서 사육한 개체 보다 자연에서 성장한 개체의 전장이 작았다. 산란시기는 5월에 시작하여 7월 말에 끝났으며(수온은 18.4~26.4℃) 성란 성기는 5~6월로 추정되었다(수온은 18.4~21.8℃). 포란수는 평균 462 (151~919)개 이었고 성숙란은 짙은 노란색 구형으로 직경이 2.31±0.33(1.94~3.10) mm 이었다. 전장-체중과의 상관관계식은 BW = 0.00002TL3.01로 상수 a는 0.00002를, 매개변수 b는 3.01 이었고 비만도 지수는 평균 K=1.76 (1.01~2.63) 이었고 기울기(Slope)는 0.0005로 양의 값을 나타내었다.

한국산 꺽지 (Coreoperca herzi)의 산란습성 및 초기생활사 (Spawning Behavior and Early Life History of Korean Aucha Perch, Coreoperca herzi Herzenstein)

  • 우리나라 특산 어종인 꺽지의 산란습성, 초기생활사에 관하여 조사하였다. 산란기는 자연 상태에서 5~6월이며, 한 마리의 암컷이 여러 번 산란에 참여한다. 꺽지의 성숙한 어미들은 큰 돌 아래쪽에 알을 한층으로 점착하여 산란하며, 수컷이 부화하여 후기자어기까지 보호한다. 알의 크기는 2.60~3.04mm로 여러개의 유구를 가지고 있으며, 유구의 크기는 0.10~0.64mm이다. 부화는 사육수온 19$\pm$1.$0^{\circ}C$에서 수정후 380시간째부터 시작되어 392시간만에 완료된다. 부화직후의 자어는 전장 6.45~7.34mm(평균 6.85mm)로 입과 항문이 열려 있고, 흑색소포는 머리부분, 난황 윗부분, 복부의 등쪽에 분포한다. 부화후 3일째 자어는 평균 전장 7.25mm로 이때부터 Daphnia sp.와 Brachionus plicatilis를 왕성하게 섭이한다. 부화후 6일째의 자어는 전장 7.94~10.10mm(평균 9.00mm)로 난황은 대부분 흡수되어 후기자어기로 접어들며, 척색의 끝부분은 45도로 위로 굽어져 있다. 부화후 30일째의 자어는 전장이 16.90~19.80mm(평균 18.20mm)로 체고는 현저하게 높아지고, 모든 지느러미 줄기가 정수에 달하여 치어기로 이행한다. 부화후 50일째의 치어들은 전장이 24.60~27.10mm(평균 25.90mm)로 몸의 형태, 체색 및 옆줄이 완전하게 형성되어 성어에 닮아간다.

시판 부직포의 물성에 관한 연구 (A study on the properties of commercial nonwoven fabrics)

  • The purpose of this study was to help the consumer about the care of nonwoven fabrics by investigation of the properties such as launderability. shrinkage, color fastness and strenth. Materials used were two types, soft and stiff, of commercial nonwoven fabrics. Deter-gents used were neutral detergents, synthetic detergents and dry cleaning solutions(perch-toro-ethylene) The results of this study were summerized as follows; 1. Laundering of nonwoven fabrics in low temperature is more ideal as morphological changes by laundering in high temperature were more prominent than that in low temperature. 2. Ironing of nonwoven fabrics wants more attention on environmental temperature as the rate of shrinkage in high temperature was higher than that in low temperature. Neutral detergents are more desirable as the rate of shrinkage of nonwoven fabrics by laundering with synthetic detergents was more prominent than that with neutral deter-gents. The rate of shringkage of nonwoven fabrics was not affected by dry cleanining. 3. Special care is wanted in order to prevent color transfer from non woven fabrics to polyester or wool during dry cleaning or laundering as the color fastness test show that color changes of nonwoven fabrics were not affected, but that color stain was increased on polyester or wool. 4. The strength was affected by composition of fibers and types of nonwoven fabrics, soft or stiff.

알라스카만산 적어, Sebastes alutus Gilbert의 성장에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Growth of Pacific Ocean Perch, Sebastes alutus Gilbert, in the Gulf of Alaska)

  • 1978년 5월에서 1980년 8월까지 알라스카만에사 한국 트룰어선의 어획물중에서 무작위 추출된 651마리의 적어를 사용하여 비늘 판독에 의해 성장을 연구하였다. 비늘에 형성되는 윤문은 눅역지수의 월변화에 의해 $2\sim5$월에 년 1회 형성되는 것으로 추정되었으므로 이윤문을 년윤으로 간주하였다. 표본어소의 윤경을 측정한 결과, 제1윤경을 제외한 전륜경에서 리현상이 확인되었고, 이 원인을 비늘의 수축에 의한 것으로 볼 수 없었으므로 산술평균법으로 리보정을 하여 윤문 형성시의 평균 수경을 추정하였다. 이 윤경으로 인경일체장 관계식을 사용하여 계산체장을 구해 버탈란피의 체장 성장식, $1_t=357.8(1-e^{-0.6124(t+1.8566)})$을 산출하였다. 이 식에 체장체중관계식을 침입하여 극한 체중($W_{\infty}=784.4g$)을 구하였다. 초기성장률 변화설을 검토한 결과, 그 원인이 초기 생활단계에서의 서식처 이동으로 인한 생태적 변화에 있기보다는 직선회귀법에 의한 리현상의 포정에 있을 가능성을 확인하였다.

합리적인 식단작성을 위한 식품폐기율 조사 연구 (Survey on Waste Rates of Foods for Menu Planning)

  • The waste rates of 98 food items after pre-preparation were surveyed to provide database for good menu planning. The waste rates turned out 0-64.27% in vegetables, 6.38-7.03% in potatoes, 6.25-68.75% in fishes and shellfishes, 16.61% in eggs, and 16.00-56.84% in fruits. Foods with high waste rates were vegetables, fishes and shellfishes. Survey results were compared with other food composition tables. Foods with 30% higher waste rate than other food composition tables were squash leaf, pacific ocean perch, sweet potato stalk, water cress, green peas, alaska pollack, bluefin tuna, beka squid, crown daisy, dodok, amaranth, beef ribs. Food which waste rates turned out to be decreased by about 30% in this study were corb shell, pomfret, sea mussel, warty sea squirt. For the menu planning, reasonaly exact waste rates for each food items are essential. Since survey results show significant deviations, there should be more studies for exact waste rates for each food.

순천 상내리 갯골에 출현하는 농어(Lateolabrax japonicus) 치어의 식성 (Feeding habits of juvenile sea perch, Lateolabrax japonicus in tidal creek at Sangnae-ri Suncheon, Korea)

  • During the study periods, total 143 individuals of Lateolabrax japonicus were collected. Body length (BL) range was 2.0-11.8 cm. Empty stomach occurred in 8.4%. The most abundant prey was copepods. Among copepods, Tigriopus japonicus was the most abundant prey appeared 32.1 in %F. Next important prey was shrimps and mysids. The results of analysis in ontogenetic changes, main prey of two small size classes (2.0-3.9 cm, 4.0-5.9 cm) were copepods. Thereafter, copepods percentage was decreased, but shrimps, mysids, fishes percentage was increased by increasing body length from 8.0 cm< size class.

하악골 전산화단층사진촬영시 기준선에 관한 연구 (Reference line for computed tomogram of the mandible)

  • Purpose : This study was performed to determine the proper reference line for taking axial computed tomograms from which the good cross-sectional views can be reformatted by multiplanar reconstruction. Methods : Three dry mandibles with implanted gutta percha cones in the extracted socket were scanned axially according to 6 reference lines of 2 mandibular positions with computed tomogram Hitachi W550. The accuracy of measurements of the lengths of implanted gutta perch a cones in the each cross-sectional view reformatted from axial computed tomogram by multiplanar reconstruction was evaluated. Results: The difference between the measurements and the real length of implant was smallest in the bucco-lingual views reformatted from the axial views scanned according to the reference line of group V-a. The smaller the angle difference between reference line and occlusal line was, the smaller the difference between the measurements in the bucco-lingual views reformatted from axial views and the real length of implant. The majority of measured widths of implants in the bucco-lingually reformatted views were larger than the actual values. Conclusions : When the mandible is inclined within the limitation of gantry angle and scanned with the reference line coincident with occlusal plane, the bucco-lingual view can be reformatted without deformation of images from the axially scanned images.
