A Study on the Medical Records presented in "HanGaekChiHeom" ("한객치험(韓客治驗)"에 기재된 의안 연구)

  • "HanGaekChiHeom" is a book that arranged the medical records left by a Japanese doctor Junso Higuchi who treated a group of diplomats from Chosun and questions and answers exchanged between him and Chosun's doctor ChoSoongSoo. There are 14 kinds of medical records here with treatments and prescriptions as well as the detailed descriptions about the name, age and symptoms of patients. Various diseases and symptoms are included among them such as bums, common cold, skin diseases, edemas, etc. The characteristics of Junso Higuchi seem to be affected by medicine in Ming Dynasty in China.

  • This study is aimed at grouping the academic lines of Korean Oriental Medicine into academic schools. The standard that can be used to classify the academic schools of Korean Oriental Medicine is first of all, identical theory; secondly, similar trend in compiling medical text; and thirdly, having the same individual body of theory. In this paper, based on these three criterion, the lines have been divided into 15 academic schools.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical application of Korean Traditional treatment to psychogenic torticollis patient who has panic disorder as underlying disease. Methods : Herb medicine used in this study are Heosu-san(Huishou-san) which is previously used for torticollis in several studies, Guibi-tang(Guipi-tang) and Gamiondam-tang(Jiaweiwendan-tang) which are frequently used for phychological disease. Also, physical therapy and aroma therapy were practiced which basically stretches and relaxes muscles around cervical muscles. Self exercise of cervical muscles was carried out during acupuncture. Results : After the comprehensive treatment, the clinical symptoms of the patient were improved. Conclusions : It is suggested that oriental medical treatment are effective in psychogenic torticollis.

The Study on Trend of Domestic and Overseas Oriental Medical Research for Visual Impairment (시력장애에 관한 국내외 한의학적 임상 연구 경향 고찰)

  • Objectives : This study is designed for trend analysis of oriental medicine treatment for visual impairment. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through OASIS, KTKP, PUBMED with keywords such as "visual impairment", "myopia", "hyperopia", "presbyopia", "astigmatism" and analyzed. Results : As a result of searching domestic and overseas research on oriental medical treatment for visual impairment, 7 domestic research papers and 11 overseas research papers have been selected. Among those research papers, 15 of those are studies related to childhood or juvenile myopia. Acupuncture, ear acupuncture, herb medicine, periocular massage, eye muscle exercise and habit correction are used as treatment methods for visual impairment. 14 out of 17 research papers which mentioned treatment effect of oriental medicine reported oriental treatment of visual impairment is effective. Conclusions : Various types of oriental medical treatment could be effective in treating visual impairment. Thus, related in-depth research must be proceeded.

Study on the Present Gown of Oriental Medical Doctors in Korea (우리나라 현행 한의사 진료가운에 대한 조사연구)

  • This study was carried out to survey the contentment of the oriental medical doctors to the present gown which they wear. The objects were the oriental medical doctors who work for the university hospitals and the private clinics. The subjects were mainly the evaluation of the relation to the image of oriental hospital and the gown, the evaluation of the present their gowns and the evaluation on the improvement of their gowns. The collected data were analysed by the frequency, cross-table and $\chi^2$ using SPSS program. The results showed that the oriental medical doctors who work for the university hospital evaluated the difference of the image more important than those who work for the private clinics. Also the former was more than the latter on the necessity of the difference in the gowns between the western and oriental medical doctors. The oriental doctors regarded the tradition as of great importance in the improvement of their gown. More than 70% of them wanted to separate their gown for the spring-summer from that for the autumn-winter.

Clinical Demands for Evidence-based Medical Interventions and Diagnostic Technology in Oriental Medicine (근거중심의학에 기반한 한의치료기술 및 한방진단기기 개발을 위한 임상수요조사)

  • Objects : To establish directions to evidence-based medical interventions and diagnosis technology in oriental medicine, we did survey research among oriental medical doctors. Methods : Systematically-organized questionnaires were provided for survey. 105 Oriental medical doctors nationwide participated in the survey. We investigated diseases of their patients, differential diagnosis methods, frequently used medical interventions, needs for diagnosis devices, evidence-based clinical manuals, etc. Results : In oriental medical clinics, the most frequent patient class was patients with musculo-skeletal diseases. Oriental medical doctors assumed that the preparation of care solution for chronic life-style diseases was the most urgent. Dong-Eui-Bo-gam(東醫寶鑑) was the most frequently used reference for their herbal medication prescription. Fixed document for diagnosis and treatment were thought to be the most important in the developing evidence-based clinical manuals. Conclusions : Validity and reliability should be considered as very important in developing oriental diagnosis devices. Evidence-based clinical manuals are needed to build standardized document for diagnosis and treatment and to verify efficacy and safety of oriental medical diagnosis and treatment.

A Study on Recognition Level of the People on Oriental Medical Services and the Need for its Improvement (한방의료서비스에 대한 인식도 및 개선요구도)

  • This study was conducted to examine the recognition level of the people on oriental medical Services and the need for it's improvement. Data were collected from 1174 residents in Daegu metropolitan city and Gyungbuk province. According to the satisfaction level with each items of oriental medical services, the respondents had positive views on efficacy, kindness, and side-effects. They, however, had negative view on the cost of oriental medical services. In regarding to the priority of improvement of oriental medical system, 'expansion of insurance benefit package' ranked first. Followed by 'safety of herbal medicine(heavy metal/pesticides)', 'improvement of scientific methods and diagnostic technique' etc. For the further development of oriental medical services in the consumer - focused and evidenced-based health care environment, much attention to implement relevant health policy reflecting user's need positively should be made.

The Statistical Analyses of Oriental Medical Office of Sub-health Center During Recent 3 years (최근 3년간 보건지소 한방진료실의 현황에 대한 통계적 연구)

  • Objective: We investigated the actual condition of oriental medical office in Sub-health Center. Method: We classified patients who visited an oriental medical office in a sub-health center of Jeollanam-do during recent 3 years, according to age, time(year), sex, disease, medical instruments, insurance, living condition... etc and studied statistical researches. Result: Almost all patients who visited an oriental medical office in a sub-health center were in 50, 60s. The number of patients were on the decrease. The number of female patients was 2.4 times more than the number of male patients. The most diseases of patients in sub-health center were diseases in connection with bones and sinews system. Generally, medical instruments depended on acupuncture. Conclusion; These results provide actual informations about condition of oriental medical office in Sub-health Center. Oriental medical doctors and offices of sub-health center are supposed to contribute to society, however essentially many problems exist. Public medical doctors of oriental medicine and local administration must renew their efforts for health of people in farming and fishing villages.

A Clinical Report of Patient with Mandibula Tremor Caused by Spiritual Trauma (심리적인 충격으로 인해 발병한 하악진전(下顎振顫) 환자 치험 1례)

  • Objectives : Tremor is increasing recently especially among senior citizens. In this case, the patient who had mandibular tremor caused by trauma, was not improved by western medicine. We tried to apply Oriental medical treatment. Methods : We treated the patient with acupuncture therapy and herbal medication and measured the frequency of the tremor, Jaw expression of Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale(AIMS) and Visual analog scale. Results: After treatment symptom of mandibular tremor was decreased significantly and other symptoms such as insomnia disappeared. Conclusions : During the admission days symptoms are decreased in contentment. This result suggests that Oriental medical treatment has good effect on tremor.

  • The standardized education for medical college students not only provides the opportunity to get the exclusive knowledge as a professional but also is the basis of strong professional authority. Korean Oriental medicine has pursued to standardize the education system and curricula away from the traditional education system since the modernization started. And this standardization has worked as the basis of the status advancement of Korean Oriental medicine. Through the standardization of education system and curricula, Korean Oriental medicine has been professionalized and its social status has been heightened, stabilizing itself within the establishment of institution. After this, Korean Oriental medicine has kept pursuing standardization and professionalization in the educational area. It has achieved the professionalization of curricula reflecting the specificity of Korean Oriental medicine, following the model of western medical education. This paper investigated the attitude of Korean Oriental medical doctors toward the current Korean Oriental medical education. In the survey conducted in this study, how the Korean Oriental doctors view the education of Korean Oriental college in the areas such as 'standardization', 'specificity', 'Korean Oriental medical philosophy', 'responsibility', and 'professional ethics'. And the relationship between the demographic variables of Korean Oriental medical doctors and the educational contents which should be emphasized in Korean Oriental medical school has been examined. The subjects of this study were Korean Oriental medical doctors who work as professionals after graduation of Koran Oriental Medical School and, thus, this is a meaningful study in that the contents of education which the Korean Oriental medical doctors think are needed in practice are discussed.
