파독간호사 삶의 재조명 (Recapturing the Lives and Experiences of Korean Nurses Dispatched to Germany in the 1960s and 1970s)

  • Purpose: While there exist a good number of studies on Korean nurses who were dispatched to Germany in 1960s and 1970s in sociological or labor economic perspectives, there have been few studies on their experiences from a nursing perspective. The purpose of this study is to recapture their lives and experiences from a nursing point of view. Methods: This paper adopts an Agar's ethnographic approach which is more suitable to investigate personal qualitative experiences of those Korean nurses. The data were collected from group discussion and individual interview, and field observation with 10 dispatched Korean nurses. Results: The experiences of those dispatched nurses to Germany can be summarized into three themes: challenging to life, embracing new life, and giving a meaning to life. Challenging to life involved 'hope and anxiety', and embracing new life was reflected by 'wonderment and envy' and 'loneliness and sorrow'. Lastly, they took pride in their contributions to their mother country and also felt something lacking that they had not been properly evaluated. Conclusion: By rediscovering their lives and experiences from a nursing perspective, this study argues for more future studies to reexamine their impact and contribution to the nursing field in Korea.

파독간호사의 간호경험 (Nursing Care Experience of Korean Nurses Dispatched to West Germany)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the nursing care experience of Korean nurses dispatched to West Germany during 1960~1970s. Methods: Qualitative research using thematic analysis was done. The participants were 13 people who were 60~70 years old. The data were collected by in-depth and focus group interviews from January to June 2016. Results: The nursing experience of Korean nurses dispatched to west Germany were composed of 197 initial codes, 15 sub themes, 4 themes including "Challenging the possibilities", "Wandering in the sea without preparation", "Distinguishing between difference and discrimination", and "Balancing oneself in two chairs". Conclusion: In order for nurses to successfully move to another country, it is needed to educate the language and inform the nursing system and preliminary education on specific nursing activities.

해외 취업 간호사의 나이듦: 파독간호사를 중심으로 (Ageing Experiences of Nurses with Overseas Employment: Focusing on the Korean Nurses Dispatched to Germany in the 1960s and 1970s)

  • Purpose: Global shortages in nursing and strong demand for nursing services provided Korean nurses with more overseas employment opportunities, especially in the developed countries such as the United States and Canada. The purpose of this study was to explore the ageing experiences of the Korean nurses dispatched to Germany in the 1960s and 1970s. Methods: The researcher interviewed 10 Korean nurses living in four cities in Germany. Interviews were performed twice in January and July, 2010, and the data, in the form of field notes and interview transcripts, were analyzed using the Agar's (1980) ethnographic method. Results: The ageing experiences of the participants can be summarized into three theme stages: coming upon old age, reluctantly realizing getting old, and finally accepting being old. The first stage is characterized by 'wiring money to homeland all throughout youth', second 'still feeling like a stranger anywhere', and finally 'burying homeland in heart'. Conclusion: The research findings not only suggest crucial materials for training prospective nurses overseas for their successful settlement, but also shed lights on related problems and solutions with ageing experience in overseas employment.

일반간호사의 임금격차 현황과 표준임금 가이드라인 개발 (Nursing Salary Guideline for Korean Hospitals)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop a nursing salary guideline for Korean hospitals. Methods: Literature review and a mobile survey were conducted regarding staff nurses' salary. Regression analysis and simulation model were applied to develop the nurses' salary guideline. Results: The United Kingdom, Australia, and Germany have standard salary guidelines which demonstrated the standard salary of nurses. These were determined mainly by nursing experience and expertise. The results of the mobile survey indicated that the maximum to minimum ratio of the salary was as high as 4.5 among staff nurses working in Korean hospitals. Two models (exponential and linear) for a standard nursing salary guideline were developed and the simulation results demonstrated an improved salary structure for staff nurses. Conclusion: This developed salary guideline for staff nurses is recommended to be applied in Korean hospitals which provide total nursing care services.

재독 한국인 간호사들의 사회적지지, 직무만족도 및 소진과의 관계연구 (A Study of the Relationship between Social Support, Job Satisfaction and Burn-out Levels of Korean Nurses in Germany)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze social support, job satisfaction and burnout level of Korean nurses who are working in Germany. The data were obtained from 71 nurses in terms of questionnaire which was distributed between October 2000. to January 2001. The analysis of the data was done by means of the SPSS program. The results of this study were as follows ; 1. The subjects had social supporters on the average of 8 to 9. The total social support score was 264.79. An analysis of the relationship between social support and general characteristics for the subjects was found to be statistically significant in the case of religion(t=2.783, p< .05 ) and work experience(F=2.594, p< .05). 2. The mean score of job satisfaction was the highest in interaction(3.71) followed by the relationship between nurses and doctors (3.56), and then followed by autonomy, professional position, pay, requirements, administration in descending order. So the total mean score 3.33 was based on a maximum score of 5. An analysis of the relationship between job satisfaction and general characteristics for the subjects was found to be statistically significant in the case of the thought of the value for the nurse job (F=4.977, p< .001). 3. The mean score of burnout level was 2.94 based on a maximum score of 7. Burnout level was the highest in the order of physical exhaustion, emotional exhaustion and mental exhaustion. An analysis of the relationship between burnout level and general characteristics for the subjects was found to be statistically significant in the case of planning period of employed nursing profession (F=4.113, p< .001), shift of work department (F=2.593, p< .05 ), thought of the value for the nurse job (F=3.789, p< .001). 4. The job satisfaction was found higher as the social support was higher(r= .278, p< .05). The burnout level was found lower as the social support was higher(r= .342, p< .01). The burnout level was found lower as the job satisfaction was higher(r= .478, p< .01). These results discussed on the above indicated that social support influenced on job satisfaction and burnout level, and that job satisfaction influenced on burnout level. To improve job satisfaction for the nurse, it is necessary that the role of social support as well as the method to increase it should be investigated correctly. The study to adjust as well as to prevent burnout level is absolutely needed.

재독 한인여성의 생애체험에 대한 질적 사례연구 -'노동이주여성-되기' - (A Qualitative Case Study on the Life Experiences of a Korean Woman in Germany -'Becoming-Work Migrant Woman'-)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 재독 한인여성의 생애체험을 내부자적인 관점에서 분석함으로써, 이주여성의 고유성을 이해하는 것이다. 이에, 재독 한인여성 A씨의 생애사를 Rosenthal의 내러티브-생애사 연구방법에 따라 분석하였다. 그 결과, A씨의 생애는 자신을 "식민화" 하는 '다수자'의 표준적인 기준에 균열을 일으켜 '탈영토화' 하는 '노동자-되기', '이주자-되기', '여성-되기' 등의 '배치체'로 구성된 '노동이주여성-되기'의 과정으로, 이러한 '노동이주여성-되기'도 끊임없이 새롭게 또 다른 '배치체'로 구성된 '소수자-되기'의 유동적인 과정이며, '차이의 정치', '되기의 정치' 과정이기도 한 것으로 분석되었다. 이에, 이러한 연구결과에 의거해 사회복지실천에 시사하는 함의를 논의하였다.
