A Study of Queen Elizabeth I's Cinema Costumes Viewed from Her Portrait (초상화 복식을 중심으로 본 퀸 엘리자베스 1세의 영화 의상에 관한 연구)

  • In 16th century, during renaissance time, Britain's queen Elizabeth I, as a means to express her authority, had an exaggerated clothing styles and was the fashion leader of the time. Thus, through a media of Cinema, tried to find out the characteristics and different aspects of the history of clothing styles, of how they changed, ascertained, restored, and reappeared in the modern time. The research was based on the consideration of Elizabeth I's 33 portraits and her clothing styles; and the research is also from analysing the movies from 1937 to 2007, a total of 9 Cinema and 102 clothes. Movie costumes' most important mission is representing the cinema's timely and spatial background. Thus, it is inevitable that ascertaining and restoring Elizabeth I's portrait should be done. However, the movie costume has to show her dramatic lifestyle, dignity, absolute authority, and other visual images. In addition, the costume has to contribute in making artistic effect and thus the creativity of a designer to satisfy all these needs should be added. Based on the findings from the research, the characteristics of Elizabeth I's Cinema costume are first, ascertaining and restoring portraits, second, mixture of silhouette and detail depending on time period, third, partial change on clothing style design, fourth, emphasis of ruff collar, fifth, magnification colors, sixth, avoiding excessive swelling and decoration, and applying modern style on Protective costume. Thus, based on the research, creative design in Cinema clothing, plays an important part in the history of clothing design. I hope this research could work as a foundation reference for clothing design's history.

Costume Code Analysis Placed Mise-en-abyme in the Movie - Focused on the Lucien Dällenbach's theory and the film - (미장아빔으로 배치된 영화 속 의상코드 분석 -Lucien Dällenbach의 이론과 영화 를 중심으로-)

  • This study focuses on the Mise-en-abyme theories of Lucien $D{\ddot{a}}llenbach$, and presents research methodology to analyze the modern cinema costume in a new view. Inherent aesthetic values of the costume code shown in the film are as follows. First, esthetics value shown is the analogic code through the maximization of factual realism by directing target. Mise-en-abyme placed in this film plays the role of costume codes, and highlights the subject by presenting specifically targeted realistic icons to maximize the realism of the movie. Second, Mise-en-abyme is deployed to the explicit text through costumes code is placed as Displaced code arrangements. In other words, each of the characters is a signifier. Symbolizing a historical era is the device that represents a self-reflective signifier. Third, paradoxically reflected by the overlapped expansion of virtual reality and the self-referential characteristics and are subject to reflect the thinking of the author. Costumes code placed in Mise-en-abyme is expressed in costumes positioned to maximize the realism in the film as described above, and implies narratives and self-reflective mediating tools that symbolism can be seen that the paradoxical metaphor for the reality and the future. In addition, through the metaphor of visual narrative is allegorical representation Mise-en-abyme with ambiguity, and it is a concrete text that can be realized in a variety of creative storytelling methods and image delivery methods of modern fashion. This study confirmed that this costumes to take the point of view of emotional $Mise-en-sc{\grave{e}}ne$ in the process of completing the film's themes and cinematic devices by identifying the roles and aesthetic value of code costumes as the core subjects that make up the narrative of the film.

Effects of Presentation Type and Authority Level of Anomalous Data on Cognitive Conflict and Conceptual Change in Learning Density (밀도 학습에서 변칙 사례의 제시 방식과 권위 수준이 인지 갈등과 개념 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The influences of the characteristics of anomalous data on cognitive conflict and conceptual change in learning density were investigated. The subjects were 416 seventh graders. First, the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking and a preconception test were administered. A questionnaire on the responses to anomalous data was then administered. In the questionnaire, four types of anomalous data varying presentation type (movie/text) and authority level (high/low) were randomly presented. After a computer-assisted instruction on density, a conception test was administered. The results indicated that anomalous data presented in movie type significantly induced more cognitive conflict than that in text type. Students presented with anomalous data of high authority scored higher in the conception test than those of low authority. There were no significant interactions between the characteristics of anomalous data and students' logical thinking ability in the scores of both the cognitive conflict and the conception test.

  • The Digital Audio-Visual Council(DAVIC) that was established to develop useful multimedia communication services has completed the specifications for providing on-demand services such as Movie on Demand(MoD), Teleshopping and accepting Internet service. And then they are proceeding the works to suport converstional communcation services like Plain Old Telecphone Service(POTS), Video telephone, Video teleconferencing. In this paper, we prpose an efficient terminal architecture which can provide conversational multimedia communication services on DAVIC Set-Top Box (STB) environments. To apply the implemented conversational terminal to the multipoint communication environment, we considered the factors of Qurlity of Services(QoS) that determine grade of conversational communication service. We also present the inter-working scheme and that system structure to satisfy QoS by using new MPEG video bridge which gurantees end to end delay requirements as major element of QoS for achieving the real time communication and does not accompany visual quality degradation.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the esthetic features of femme fatale character fashions, which are shown in Movie . The feature of evil femineity is the attribute of evil which brings men to ruin by the dangerous, cunning, and cruel trick, and is expressed in black color, red color, and slash fashion. This fashion shows the dark reverse side of women's sexual desire in relation to anxiety, evil, and death. The feature of sensuality evokes physical pleasures or desires, and maximizes the exposure of sexual regions by tightening or loosening women's body. In the fashion expressing this feature, the forms are fit or loose silhouette. and the colors are black and red. and the materials are soft. This fashion seems to deconstruct the past concept of sex consciousness and emphasize the independent and autonomous femineity. The feature of positiveness combines feminine elements with masculine elements in relation to power elements. This feature is expressed in tailored suit and trousers, with few patterns and details, and in black color and gray color. This fashion reflects the aggressive, challenging, and independent femineity, and expresses the potential defense for the weakness and danger of female body. The feature of purity expresses the earnest and truthful mind, and is expressed in the soft and light one-piece dress, the elegant suit, and the pink color and black color fashion. This fashion shows angel-like and reliable womanly beauty, but at the same time shows women's attribute which changes their behavior and thinking every moment, so that this fashion shows women's double-sided attribute which combines women's weakness and violence, or tenacity and conflict.

An Analysis of Incheon's Identity of Place through Movies (영화를 통한 인천의 장소 정체성 분석)

  • Although Incheon metropolitan city is the third largest city in Korea, it is called 'the gateway to Seoul', 'the second city of port', and 'the satellite city'. The people in Incheon as well as other regions unconsciously recognize this city as 'border' and 'periphery' of Seoul through those expressions. These perceptions also develop a negative sense of place about Incheon. This study starts with analysis about marginal landscape images of Incheon in texts such as movies, stories, and geography textbooks. The represented text as movie has a gap between real space and it. Nevertheless, Its strong point is a making problems clear about recognition of reality. I will inquire the origin of senses of place about Incheon through analysis of represented texts. Moreover, I will present the notion of 'flight' that stands on the basis of Deleuze's Nomadism. Here, 'flight' means that the active subject continuously challenges and reforms the nature of periphery and dependency, the capital, and the economic subordination, and it will have to be new identity and direction of Incheon.

  • Recommender systems or collaborative filtering are methods to identify potentially interesting or valuable items to a particular user Under the assumption that people with similar interest tend to like the similar types of items, these methods use a database on the preference of a set of users and predict the rating on the items that the user has not rated. Usually the preference of a particular user is liable to vary with time and this temporal variation may cause an inaccurate identification and prediction. In this paper we propose a method to adapt the temporal variation of the user preference in order to improve the predictive performance of a collaborative filtering algorithm. To be more specific, the correlation weight of the GroupLens system which is a general formulation of statistical collaborative filtering algorithm is modified to reflect only recent similarity between two user. The proposed method is evaluated for EachMovie dataset and shows much better prediction results compared with GrouPLens system.

The Goth Style Expressed on Costumes of Tim Burton's Films (팀 버튼 영화 의상에 나타난 고스(Goth) 스타일)

  • This research aims to identify and analyze the expression elements and features of Goth style observed in clothing of unique characters in movies directed by Tim Burton, and to build the database on diverse features movie costumes, so that such data can be used to develop new fashion design. The research-classified features of Goth style into romanticism overturns Satanism, grief, and sensuality. The results are as follow; First, Goth expressed romanticism by reminding the gloom and fear of medieval times through the image of clowns, medieval knights, werewolves and vampires. Second, The costumes in Tim Burton's movies overthrew the rules in reality using flexible changes, ambiguity of gender, distorted human beings, half-man-half-beasts, and ghost images. Furthermore, the positive expression on characters in gloomy and fearful costumes showed the overturn of common idea and value system in a society. Third, Tim Burton created fear using the image of a live dead body, shape of a devil, shape of death. Also, accessories suddenly changed into arms in his movies. He expressed Satanism by positively describing satanic shapes and shapes meaning death. Next, characters in Tim Burton's movies are mainly losers, aliens or outsiders. Sorrow, alienation and darkness inside them expressed the sadness through embodiment of mean animals in darkness, masks, veils and extreme black costumes. Finally, Sensuality was rarely shown in Tim Burton's movies, but expressed in various ways including pursuit of new beauty in excessive exposure, skintight silhouette, suggestion on sexualized violence and frightfulness.

Effect of online word-of-mouth variables as predictors of box office (영화 흥행 예측변수로서 온라인 구전 변수의 효과)

  • This study deals with the effect of online word-of-mouth (OWOM) variables on the box office. From the result of statistical analysis on 276 films with audiences of more than five hundred thousand released in the Korea from 2012 to 2015, it can be seen that the variables showing the size of OWOM (such as the number of the portal movie rater, blog, and news after release) are associated more with the box office than the portal movie rating showing the direction of OWOM as well as variables showing the inherent properties of the film such as grade, nationality, release month, release season, directors, actors, and distributors.

  • is a movie about the frustration and the despair of young people in Korean society today. It is different from the previous Lee Chang-dong's film in that it provides the main character's perception and feelings about the world as the ultimate cause of the protagonist's actions. Lee Chang-dong's characters begin to change from . The main character of Burning goes one step further. He seems to believe that the main character's only weapon to overcome the logic and constraints of reality is obsessive and compulsive behaviors. Unlike previous movies, the character in Burning is a person who practices awareness and proves his character through action. I will analyze characters in to suggest the change of film form. Especially I will look at how the character's actions and the writer's own voice can meet and what results it bring about in this movie. It will lead to his changes in film form and an idea on the young people in Korean society today.
