Today, we have often heard that information is a national resources, perhaps our most important national resources, and that government should recognize this and develop a national policy for the effective management and use of information. But traditionally the library has played a rather passive role in selecting, acquiring, preserving and transfering information. Now we have faced greater and much more diverse and more urgent demand from users and we have to cope effectively with a massive increase in volume and in cost in selecting, acquiring, storing and retrieving information. Individual libraries can no longer keep pace with the published outputs of the world. The solution of these problems lies in "national planning and in cooperation through inter-library cooperation and in the application of data processing to library operations." Also at the national level lies the responsibility for total bibliographic control of the national information output and for the interfacing of this with other national and international systems; for the development, adoption and maintenance of, standards in all areas affecting library work; for the provision of services based on centrally created and maintained bibliographic data files, and for planning and policy development of the national information system.

This study outlined the services of the P Public Library and some other libraries in California, USA for benchmarking to develop the public library services in Korea. To perform the role of public libraries and to assure the library users' supports in Korea, the development of following services are suggested in this study: 1) information services suited to information society 2) services to supply the public and lifelong education 3) services related to the cultural and artistic desires of the local community.

The purpose of library automation is to enhance the library function by the computer. Systems Librarian Is the person who manages the automation systems, appeared with the presence of library automation. The information material in the library or in the information service center is at once its own property and the national resources, so that every citizen in the country has the right to the equal use of it for the development of the country. Library co-operation enables every citizen to use easily and equally the materials in the library. In the informational society of today, owing to the information explosion, the increase in the various user's demand of the information, and the rise of the cost of information material, even the richest and highly advanced country cannot be self-sufficient. Under these circumstances, the international co-operation among libraries seems to be the best way to solve the difficulties of selfsufficiency. Therefore, this paper aims to study the background of IFLA founded in 1927 in order to promote the international library co-operation and its development up to 1970's since its establishment, and, by introducing IFLA's programs of UBC, ISBD, and UAP, to consider the significance of IFLA's contribution to the development of library and librarianship.

This study compare and analyzes recent school library standards in advanced countries including Britain, United States and Japan. The examination is based on the changing process of standards and development of school library in the each countries. We are encountering a great numerous informations concerning literatures to rapidly organize and manage, and the necessity for education of library science has been increasing for social service at the right time. The distribution of the library materials to policy-making vital to modernization of Korea has been greatly estimated. Accordingly, at present it is very urgent for us to re-examine the curriculum in each of college library science course. Therefore, we should not repeat such a rediculous education of library science as ten-years old one. A new way should be designed, so that students could carry out their activity of literatures, informations and services which is necessary for modernization of Korea. Thus this essay proposes the following points; This is designed for pioneering to improve and develope the education of library science.

The present survey aimed at analyzing factors influencing the development of the university library collection, with the special reference to the case of the Education Collection of the Pusan National University Library. For this, the present researchers have identified two areas of influencing factors, i.e.., library factors and user factors. Library factors included collection development policy, manpower, materials received as gift and budget. User factors included faculty and students. For analyzing the factors, the present researchers have relied on qualitative research techniques, using heavily documents produced within the case library, interviews librarians, faculty and students, and observation.

This dissertation are studying the conceptual structure of decision making situation in libraries, by analyzing the library function, decision makings of library and then seeking economic and efficient alternative decision making by programming the· decision making situations, and finally, introducing how to apply management information system or decision making support system. For this purpose, in order to analyzing necessary factors for the decision making system, the questionnaire used Lickert method were distributed to 400 librarians of 36 universities in Seoul by means of mail. 193 librarians, $48\%$ of the questionnaire, are returned are studied by using 'SYSTAT' statistical software to figure out the factors of the decision making system. This dissertation was put six hypotheses and tested with the returned questionnaire. The following five result can be asserted. First, to the higher degree of the librarians' participation in the important library decision makings, the quality of formal library services are improved regardless of seniority of the work. Secondly, the t-test results show that all of t-test scores of seniority of the work, educational background, and responsibilities of the work are exceeding significant level and perception of decision making was proved to be different depending on seniority of the work, educational background, and responsibilities of the work in libraries. Thirdly, as the results of factor af factor analysis, the encouragement on participation in the library academic activities, the extent to get useful information about performances of library and the improvements of library works were grouped by similar posibilities of distribution and therfore the academic activities, the collection of information and the improvement of library performances is proved to be interrelational each other. Fourthly, the fifth hypothesis of the close relationship between the decision making situation and types of advisor by it was more or less interrelational, but their relationship was not seen some significancies. Lastly, as the dynamic organization of library management forming a special commitee or a project team with librarian can improve the extent and quality of the librarian's participation in the decision making of library works, and thus library will become to performance more rational and effective library management.

Academic libraries are at a turning point. Historically academic libraries were the natural destination for students, faculty, and researchers seeking information. These users came to the library by default. Academic libraries served as the repository for published information as well as the intermediary for acquiring material from the outside world. In this study, suggested are directions of academic library websites construction and current techniques related library 2.0 that could be applied digital information system of academic libraries. And discussed the recent status, problems and future directions of scholarly information service through websites supporting lecture and research prefect activities for faculties in Korean university libraries.

The purpose of this study is to derive a major trend through exhaustive search of papers contained in "Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society" that has been published for 40 years. Therefore, 1,365 papers published in "Journal of Korean Library and Information Science Society" from 1974 to 2013 were analyzed. The analysis criteria include detailed subject and joint research status, research fund supporting, research area etc. The analysis results are as follows. First, as for research topics, papers on library and information science were the most, 452 papers followed by resource organization, 213 papers. The rest was found in the order of information service 188, information science 155 papers, reading guidance 101, library management 91, bibliography 84, collection development 58, archives and records management 20 papers. Through this, it was analyzed that information science is on an increasing trend while bibliography is on an decreasing trend and records management shows sluggish production. Second, as for research fund supporting, it turned out that 428 papers were funded and 315 papers among them were supported by the university while the remaining 108 papers were supported by the government. Third, joint research is on an increasing trend and unlike the fact that there have been no papers for early, papers were found to increase up to 303 papers for recent. Fourth, unlike the early phenomenon concentrated in Daegu, research areas showed even distribution throughout the country in recent years. This showed that it has grown from certain area-based academic journal to nationwide academic journal.
