We investigated a novel fast non-uniform illumination correction method for bi-level images. The proposed method divides a bi-level image into sub-images and roughly estimates block-wise illumination by low pass filtered maximum values of sub-images. After that, we apply bilinear interpolation using the block-wise illumination to estimate non-uniform illumination, and compensate for the effect of non-uniform illumination using the estimated illumination. Since the proposed method is not based on computation intensive iterative optimization, the proposed method can be used effectively for applications that require fast correction of non-uniform illumination. In simulations, the proposed method showed more than 20 times faster speed than existing entropy minimization method. Moreover, in simulations and experiments, the restored images by the proposed method were more close to true images than images restored by conventional method.
The purpose of this paper is to extract DEM (Digital Elevation Model) using KOMPSAT images. DEM extraction consists of three parts. First part is the modeling of satellite position and attitude, second part is the matching of two images to find corresponding points of them and third part is to calculate the elevation of each point by using the result of the first and second part. The position and attitude modeling of satellite is processed by using GCPs. Area based matching method is used to find the corresponding points between the stereo satellite images. The elevation of each point is calculated using the exterior orientation information obtained from sensor modeling and the disparity from the stereo matching. In experiment, the KOMPSAT images, 2592$\times$2796 panchromatic images are used to extract DEM. The experiment result show the DEM using KOMPSAT images.
User interface for cancer classification system is a software application with clinician's friendly tools and functions to diagnose cancer from pathology images. Pathology evolved from manual diagnosis to computer-aided diagnosis with the help of Artificial Intelligence tools and algorithms. In this paper, we explained each block of the project life cycle for the implementation of automated breast cancer classification software using AI and machine learning algorithms to classify normal and invasive breast histology images. The system was designed to help the pathologists in an automatic and efficient diagnosis of breast cancer. To design the classification model, Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained breast histology images were obtained from the ICIAR Breast Cancer challenge. These images are stain normalized to minimize the error that can occur during model training due to pathological stains. The normalized dataset was fed into the ResNet-34 for the classification of normal and invasive breast cancer images. ResNet-34 gave 94% accuracy, 93% F Score, 95% of model Recall, and 91% precision.

The several noise level estimation algorithms that have been developed for use in image processing and computer graphics generally exhibit good performance. However, there are certain special types of noisy images that such algorithms are not suitable for. It is particularly still a challenge to use the algorithms to estimate the noise levels of complex textured photographic images because of the inhomogeneity of the original scenes. Similarly, it is difficult to apply most conventional noise level estimation algorithms to images rendered by the Monte Carlo (MC) method owing to the spatial variation of the noise in such images. This paper proposes a novel noise level estimation method based on histogram modification, and which can be used for more accurate estimation of the noise levels in both complex textured images and MC-rendered images. The proposed method has good performance, is simple to implement, and can be efficiently used in various image-based and graphic applications ranging from smartphone camera noise removal to game background rendition.
Change detection is one of the common research topics in remote sensing. In general, global change detection methods using image difference method, etc, are used in low resolution images and local change detection methods using floating windows, etc, are used in high resolution images. But, these methods have disadvantages in practical use. If changed area images are automatically produced, these images will be used in public area such as regional planning, regional development managements. In this research, we developed new change detection method applicable KOMPSAT EOC images. This method automatically produces subset images in changed area.
Preliminary results are reported on ship detection using coherence images computed from cross-correlating images of multi-look-processed dual-polarization data (HH and HV) of ENVISAT ASAR. The traditional techniques of ship detection by radars such as CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate) rely on the amplitude data, and therefore the detection tends to become difficult when the amplitudes of ships images are at similar level as the mean amplitude of surrounding sea clutter. The proposed method utilizes the property that the multi-look images of ships are correlated with each other. Because the inter-look images of sea surface are covered by uncorrelated speckle, cross-correlation of multi-look images yields the different degrees of coherence between the images and water. The polarimetric information of ships, land and intertidal zone are first compared based on the cross-correlation between HH and HV. In the next step, we examine the technique when the dual-polarization data are split into two multi-look Images.

A new three dimensional fractal coding is proposed with a perceptually enhanced matching. Since most of medical images (e.g. computed tomoyaphy or magnetic resonance images) have three dimensional characters, searching regions are extended to adjacent slices. For a perceptually enhanced matching, a high frequency boost filter is used for pre-filtering images to be encoded, and a least mean square error matching is applied to the edge enhanced Images rather than the original images. From simulation with magnetic resonance images($255\times255$, 8bits/pixel), reconstructed images by the proposed compression algorithm show much improved subjective image quality with higher peak signnal-to-noise ratio compared to those by existing fractal coding algorithms at compression ratios of about 10.
A new method for enhancing blurred images using fuzzy logic concepts is proposed. Blurred images contain blurred boundaries which make it difficult to detect edges and segment areas in images. In order to sharpen blurred edges local contrast information of an image and erosion/dilation properties of local min/max operations are used in which local min/max operations are fuzzy logic operations. so that given images are transformed to fuzzy images and then these operations are applied on them. In this method the sharpening operation can be iteratively applied to the image to get better deblurring effect and gray-scale "salt-and-pepper" noises are suppressed. the efficiency of our algorithm is demonstrated through experimental results obtained with artificially-made blurred images and real blurred images.
This paper propose a new vector-quantizer design method for coefficients of wavelet transformed images. In conventional wavelet transform, it is quite often to employ wavelet transformed coefficients, not containing images to be encoded, as training sequences for designing a vector-quantizer. This method has a serious drawback ; it is not known how to find a proper set of training images. This paper investigates characteristics of images that should be considered in the design of vector-quantizers for wavelet transformed images. Besides the statistical parameters such as correlation and standard deviation, edge components are shown to characterise wavelet transform images. Training sequences established in accordance with the above knowledge are used in the design of quantizers having guaranteed range of applicable images. Results of computer simulations are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
