This study reports the pagurid hermit crab Porcellanopagurus japonicus in Korean waters for the first time. This species has a right cheliped larger than the left one, reduced and globular abdomen, and symmetrical uropods. Porcellanopagurus japonicus is similar to P. nihonkaiensis, a previously reported congeneric species in Korea, but also has distinguished morphological and ecological characters. There are currently issues with the Korean scientific name for P. japonicus, we suggest a reasonable Korean scientific name of this organism with its etymology. In addition, this species inhabits bivalve shells, which is not a typical habitat for hermit crabs, and the unique habitats of this and several other Korean hermit crabs are reviewed.

Two species of the family Porcellidiidae associated with hermit crabs are described from Korean seas. These are Porcellidium similis, new species collected from Pagurus similis, Pagurus pectinatus and Porcellidium brevicaudatum Kicks & Webber collected from Dardanus impressus. The new species resemble closely Porcellidium brevicaudatum in general body form, but is clearly distinguished from Porcellidium vrevicaudatum in that the caudal ramus is weakly oblique in tis distal border and the lobe of leg 5 is more slender.

Pagurus undosus and Pagurus parvispina, collected from the East Sea by fishery trap, are newly recorded from Korean waters. Pagurus undosus is distinguished from other hermit crab by its right cheliped slightly elevated medially, and with broad ridge formed by deep depressions mesial and lateral to midline. Pagurus parvispina is distinguished from other hermit crab by its right cheliped covered with large spine and long tufts of setae. These species live in cold water areas and their geographical distribution is extended southwardly by the present study. A specimen of the former species, P. undosus, was found living in a shelter formed by a sponge, similar to that observed in Pagurus pectinatus. Descriptions and figures of these two species are provided in this paper. Currently, 27 species of the genus Pagurus are recorded in Korean fauna.

남한산 큰자색호랑꽃무지는 그 동안 일본에 분포하는 Osmoderma opicum으로 동정되어 왔으며, 국내에서는 그 희귀성에 의해 멸종위기종으로 다루어지고 있지만, 남한 개체군에 대한 면밀한 종의 실체에 대한 구명은 없었다. 이에 대해, 남한산 큰자색호랑꽃무지와 유라시안 근연종에 대해 형태 및 COI유전자 염기서열을 비교를 실시하였다. 결과적으로, 남한산 개체군은 형태적으로 극동러시아에 분포하는 O. caeleste와 동일하였다. 따라서, 남한산 큰자색호랑꽃무지는 O. caeleste임을 제안한다.

현재까지 전해지는 사서(史書)의 평가와 연구 성과에 따르면, 혜강은 위진(魏晋)시기에 한 획을 그은 걸출한 학자이다. 다만 현재 몇몇 연구자들은 혜강이 현실에서 벗어나 사회제도를 부정한 피세주의자로 평가한다. 논자는 바로 이러한 관점이 혜강의 철학을 이해하는 올바른 이해방식인가에 질문을 던지고자 한다. 따라서 이 논문이 다루고자 하는 것은 혜강이 꿈꾸었던 이상과 현실적 삶의 모습이고, 논의는 그가 산도(山濤)에게 보낸 절교서인 "여산거원절교서(與山居源絶交書)"를 중심으로 전개한다. 이를 통해 혜강이 현실사회에 대한 기본적 반응 양식, 혼란한 현실에 대한 반성 및 새로운 이상으로의 전환이라는 구도를 통해 그가 추구하고자 했던 인생의 궁극적인 이상의 특징을 엿볼 수 있다. "여산거원절교서(與山居源絶交書)"에 드러난 혜강의 인생이상은 다음과 같은 특징을 지닌다. 첫째, 혜강은 본래 소극적이며 직접적인 현실참여를 꿈꾸었지만, 현실에서의 실현불가능을 직시하고 '은일(隱逸)'이라는 새로운 인생이상을 모색한다. 둘째, 중국의 전통적 은일관(隱逸觀)에 따르자면, 혜강은 유도(儒道)은일관에 대한 양가적 입장에서 도가(道家)은일관으로의 전환을 모색한다. 마지막으로, 혜강은 소극적이고 피세적 방식으로 현실의 갖가지 문제에 접근했지, 결코 현실을 저버린 이상주의자는 아니다. 이와 같은 현실사회에 대한 이해와 인생이상은 그의 철학체계에 일관되게 적용되는 전제라고 할 수 있다.

Two diogenid hermit crab species, Dardanus lagopodes and Diogenes deflectomanus, are newly reported from Korea. Dardanus lagopodes is distinguished from the other species of genus Dardanus in Korea by having setae with cream-colored tips on the cephalothorax and the following characteristics: ocular peduncles somewhat longer than antennular peduncles, and the pereopod without a longitudinal sulcus and scute-like projections. Diogenes deflectomanus is similar to D. nitidimanus but can be distinguished by having the fixed finger of the left cheliped bent slightly downwardly and the following characteristics: slightly shorter ocular peduncle, elongated left cheliped with small granules on the surface, right cheliped without calcareous teeth on the cutting edge of the dactylus, and the minute spine of post-median margin of the telson is not well developed. The geographical distributions of these two species are extended by the present study. In particular, D. deflectomanus in the current study is the first report outside Chinese waters. Now, 20 species of the family Diogenidae are known in Korean waters.

Based on an introduced optimal trajectory planning method, this paper mainly deals with the accuracy analysis during the function approximation process of the optimal trajectory planning method. The basis functions are composed of Hermit polynomials and Fourier series to improve the approximation accuracy. Since the approximation accuracy is affected by the given orders of each basis function, the accuracy of the optimal solution is examined by changing the combinations of the orders of Hermit polynomials and Fourier series as the approximation basis functions. As a result, it is found that the proper approximation basis functions are the $5^{th}$ order Hermit polynomials and the $7^{th}-10^{th}$ order of Fourier series.

A pagurid hermit crab Catapaguroides fragilis was collected in Jeju Island, and described as new to the Korean fauna. It is the first member of the genus Catapaguroides known from Korea. Morphological descriptions of C. fragilis are presented with illustrations.

The germanium content of the cultivated Korean medicinal herbs in several growing district was determined by adsorption stripping voltammetry. The optimum conditions in germanium determination were as following: deposition time; 120 sec, deposition potential; -0.9 volts vs. Ag/AgCl, and frequency; 100 Hz in $5.0{\times}10^{-2}M$ perchloric acid supporting electrolyte solution containing $8.0{\times}10^{-2}M$ catechol. Calibration curve was shown a good lineality in the range of 0.4 ppb to 2.0 ppm and the detection limit was 0.08 ppb. There was a large difference in content of the cultivated hermit leaf according to growing district such as 29.7~385.7 ppm and the content of nontreated hermit leaf was higher than the processed health foodstuffs. The content of the Korean ginseng (5 years) was 83 ppm while the Korean herb of life was 214 ppm.

한국 동해안에서 채집된 2종의 집게류가 검은털손참집게 (Pagurus proximus)와 갈색털손참집게 (Pagurus simulans)로 동정되었으며, 처음으로 한국에서 확인되어 보고한다. 2종은 그 동안 모두 털손참집게 (P. brachiomastus)로 인식되어오던 종으로, 최근 Komai (2000a)에 의해 이들 분류학적 관계가 재정립되었다. Komai (2000a)에 의하여, 한국에서 김 (1973)이 털손참집게로 보고한 종은 검은털손참집게의 동종이명으로 처리되었으며, 본 연구를 통하여 재확인되었다. 한편 갈색털손참집게는 한국에서는 처음으로 보고되는 종이다.
