  • This paper presents the first version of a Korean glossary of terms for structural developmental abnormalities in common laboratory animals, mainly rats, mice and rabbits. This is a translation of the glossary entitled Terminology and Developmental Abnormalities in Common Laboratory Mammals that was edited by the International Federation of Teratology Societies(IFTS) Committee on International Harmonization of Nomenclature in Developmental Toxicology. The purpose of the Korean glossary is to provide a common vocabulary that will reduce confusion and ambiguity in the description of developmental effects, particularly in submissions to regulatory agencies worldwide. The glossary contains a primary term or phrase, a definition of the abnormality, and notes, where appropriate. Selected synonyms or related terms, which reflect a similar or closely related concept, are noted. Non-preferred terms are indicated where their usage may be incorrect. Modifying terms used repeatedly in the glossary(e.g., absent, branched) are listed in Appendix A, and syndrome names are generally excluded from the glossary, but are listed separately in Appendix B. The glossary is organized into broad sections for external, visceral, and skeletal observations, then subdivided into regions, structures, or organs in a general overall head to tail sequence. Numbering is sequential, and not in any regional or hierarchical order, Uses and misuses of the glossary are discussed. Updates of the Korean glossary are planned based on the comments received.

지리교과 지형 편수용어 개선을 위한 모색 (Revision of Geomorphological Terms in the Reference Guide for Geography Textbook Compilation)

  • This study has analyzed and revised the geomorphological terms in the Reference Guide for Geography Textbook Compilation issued by the Ministry of Education in 2017. The current geography glossary is composed of 1,150 terms of which 24.4 percent are geomorphological one. They also amount to 52.2 percent of the terms registered in the physical geography glossary. The number of terms in coastal landforms is the maximum of fifty-eight, while the one in weathering landforms is the minimum of six. This suggests a large difference in the number of terms among landform types originating from varying geomorphic processes. A lot of ordinary words are included in the geomorphology glossary. Since they have been already registered in the Korean Standards Dictionary which is another reference guide for textbook compilation, it is appropriate to delete them out of the geomorphological terms. The geomorphology glossary also contains difficult terms written in Chinese characters, inappropriate terms and even incorrect terms which are likely to lead to misconception on landforms. The revised glossary consists of 284 geomorphological terms in which 101 terms are newly added after taking all the problems into consideration.

  • 본 논문은 자연언어처리 (Natural Language Processing), 특히 한영 기계번역에서 필수적 인 한영 대역어 사전을 구축함에 있어 영어 생성시 정확한 문장형태를 도출하기 위한 방법에 대해 논의한다. 기간의 연구는 주로 한국어와 영어의 의미적 모호성이 해결된 정확한 번역을 위한 대역어 내지 변환사전 구조에 초점이 맞추어져 왔고 상대적으로 형태적 또는 구문적으로 정확한 영어문장을 생성하는 것은 간과되어져 왔다. 기존 자원의 황용이라는 측면에서는 텍스트화된 한영사전을 그대로 이용한다고 하면 그 기술방식과 영어표현은 다양한 형태로 나타나기 때문에 정확한 의미의 대역어 뿐만 아니라 적격한 영어문장의 생성을 위해서는 어떠한 정보들이 대역어 사전에 기술되어야 하는지 고려해 볼 필요가 있다 따라서 본 논의에서는 기존의 인쇄된 한영사전을 구조분석하여 자동으로 변환하여 최소한의 인간의 간섭으로 정확한 영어생성에 필요한 형태적 정보를 자질로 부여하는 방법을 기술한다. 기본적으로 이 방법은 단어 대 단어 번역시스템 둥 glossary에 기초한 얕은 층위의 번역이 필요한 시스템을 위한 사전을 구축에서 시작하며 더 나아가 대규모의 전자사전 구축작업에서 어떻게 응용될 수 있는지 논의한다.

식물형태학에서 사용하는 피자식물의 꽃 구조에 관한 한글 용어의 분석 (Analysis of Some Korean Terminologies on the Flower Structures of Angiosperms in Plant Morphology)

  • Korean terminologies on flower structures of angiosperms in plant morphology, written incorrectly in many books, were analysed to suggest accurately expressed terminologies. 24 books in areas such as general biology, plant biology, plant morphology, and biological dictionaries and glossaries were selected to analyse the accuracy of the terminologies for seed structures, e.g., crassinucellate (ovule), tenuinucellate (ovule), placentation, free cental placentation, herkogamy or hercogamy, heterostyly or heterostylous, distyly or distylous, tristyly or tristylous, and hypanthium. The definition and etymology of the terminologies were traced in 4 textbooks of plant anatomy and 2 dictionaries of biology and botany written in English. On the basis of the definition, etymology, and principles for terminology formation according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704:2000), accurately and reasonably expressed Korean terminologies were proposed. The 9 terminologies examined in this study were found in the glossary of biological terminologies, published by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences in 2005, and designated as an editorial source for science and biology textbooks for middle and high schools by Ministry of Education in 2007. However, none of the 9 terminologies described in the glossary were consistent with those proposed in the present study. The inconsistencies indicated the need for a reassessment of this glossary of biological terminologies. The new, proposed terminologies would facilitate mutual understanding between teachers and students of plant biology.

스마트그리드 용어 표준화를 위한 뜻풀이 작업 및 온라인 용어 정보시스템 개발 (Interpretation Works and Online Terminology Information System for the Standardization of Smart Grid Terminologies)

  • Power system technologies in the area of smart grid are being converged with communication system technologies or information technologies(IT). This interdisciplinary action affects on two parts vigorously so that IT has become a essential part of power industry. But terminologies of two parts are confused and it is necessary that these are standardized to develop the industry. The interpretation works with scientific and technological standard of the smart grid terminologies which are IEC TC 57 glossary and non-glossary terminologies are introduced. Based on the interpretation works of the smart grid terminologies, an online terminology information system for the standardization of smart grid terminologies is proposed. The system provides the capability of collection and delivery of academic society opinions for the selected and interpreted terminologies.

식물형태학 분야에서 사용하는 줄기의 구조에 관한 한글 용어의 분석 (Analysis of Some Korean Terminologies on the Stem Structures in Plant Morphology)

  • Korean terminologies on stem structures in plant morphology, written incorrectly in many books, were analysed to propose accurately expressed terminologies. 35 books in areas such as general biology, plant biology, plant morphology, and biological dictionaries and glossaries were selected to analyse the accuracy of the terminologies for seed structures, e.g., shoot and shoot system, rhizome, apical dominance, anticlinal and periclinal divisions, and intercalary and lateral meristems. The definition and etymology of the terminologies were traced in 4 textbooks of plant anatomy and 2 dictionaries of biology and botany written in English. On the basis of the definition, etymology, and principles for terminology formation according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704:2000), reasonably expressed Korean terminologies were proposed. All of the 8 terminologies examined in this study were included in the glossary of biological terminologies, published by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences in 2005, and designated as an editorial source for science and biology textbooks for middle and high schools by Ministry of Education in 2007. However, the only 1 of the 8 terminologies described in the glossary were consistent with the proposed expression in the present study. These inconsistencies indicated the need for a reassessment of this glossary of biological terminologies. The validity of the proposed Korean terminologies was tested in a questionnaire sent to 17 professors teaching plant morphology or/and taxonomy at universities. A mean of 91.9% of the total respondents agreed with the Korean expressions proposed in this study. The new, proposed terminologies would facilitate mutual understanding between teachers and students of plant biology.

  • Some Korean terminologies on reproductive structures of seed plants in plant morphology, written incorrectly in many books, were analysed to propose accurately expressed terminologies. 31 books in areas such as general biology, plant biology, plant morphology, and biological dictionaries and glossaries were selected to analyse the accuracy of the terminologies for reproductive structures in gymnosperms, e.g., cone or strobilus, seed (or ovulate) cone and pollen cone, and conifer(s) or coniferous plants, and for flower structures in angiosperms, e.g., corolla, anther, filament, pistillate (or female) flower and staminate (or male) flower, apocarpous, and syncarpous. The definition and etymology of the terminologies were traced in 4 textbooks of plant anatomy and 2 dictionaries of biology and botany written in English. On the basis of the definition, etymology, and principles for terminology formation according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 704:2000), reasonably expressed Korean terminologies were proposed. All of the 8 terminologies examined in this study were included in the glossary of biological terminologies, published by the Korean Association of Biological Sciences in 2005, and designated as an editorial source for science and biology textbooks for middle and high schools by Ministry of Education in 2007. 구조적 학술용어사전 "STNet"의 추론규칙 생성에 의한 의미 검색에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Semantic Search using Inference Rules of the Structured Terminology Glossary "STNet")

  • 본 연구의 목적은 이미 구축되어 있는 RDB 형식의 학술용어사전에 온톨로지 구조와 추론 규칙을 형성시킨 후 이를 의미 검색에 적용하는 상향(Bottom-up) 방식의 방법론을 제안하고 검증하는 것이다. 이를 위해 구조적 학술용어사전 "STNet"을 테스트베드로 삼아 Protege를 이용해 온톨로지 구조를 생성하고, 온톨로지 구조의 오류를 검증하였으며, STNet에 입력된 실제 데이터로 실험을 위한 테스트 데이터를 구축하였다. 그리고 추론 제한 규칙과 검증에 필요한 시나리오를 설정한 후, TBox 검증과 SPARQL 질의에 의한 결과 값을 평가하였다. TBox 검증 결과 본 연구에서 생성한 추론규칙이 모두 참으로 나타났으며, SPARQL 질의를 통한 결과값의 평가 결과 기존의 키워드 검색 수행에서는 파악하기 힘든 복잡한 검색 시나리오에 대해, 의미적으로 연관되는 용어를 효율적으로 조합해 검색 결과로 보여주는 것으로 나타났다.
