This research aims at the development of Korean fashion design for the world market, which combines the western beauty and Korean tradition into the product design focusing on the styling concept. Through the example-analysis of structural elements which form Europe and Korean fashions, the styling concepts of functional change, beauty-combination, and tradition-conservation. are derived. The results are as follows : 1. Functionality needs to be improved by the structural change and the development of new materials from the traditional materials. 2. Beauty should come from the combination of natural patterns and western-spatial allocation, as well as from the front combination of western-beauty. 3. Tradition needs to be kept as Korean beauty and representation skills in the colors, accessaries, and in the spatial design. The styling concept for Korean fashion design in this research is related to the visual structural elements, and is not expanded to the styling concept of Korean image and/or feeling. Therefore future researches may follow on these un-expanded points. and also may continue the wide comparison between the Korean fashion design and oriental image fashion in Europe.
The objective of this study was to investigate visual elements of steampunk fashion and provide base line data for innovative fashion design ideas and products. We investigated design characteristics of steampunk fashion style shown in 3 movies and 3 animations. Based on the investigation, the research drew intrinsic value of steampunk fashion from three brands 'Vivienne Westwood', 'Dolce & Gabbana' and 'Alexander McQueen'. As the research analyzed movies and animations revealing steampunk style, various characteristics were found and assorted into similar categories. Subcategories of steampunk fashion are pluralism, rebellion and heterogeneity. The followings are result of analyzing three designer collection listed above. First, steampunk fashion made by designers used various color and materials to express multi-pluralistic(multiplicity) characteristic. Second, fashion style in collections revealed artistic and experimental design. This adventurous and innovative characteristic is categorized as rebellion feature. Third, steampunk fashion style used mix-match of unexpected materials or unbalanced silhouette to create a complete fashion style by combining styles in duplicity which could've lack harmony. Intrinsic value of steampunk is defined as graffiti of 19th century's science technology and utopia spirit. Longing for past and fantasy was expressed into fashion. Steampunk fashion wants to escape reality and tries to recreate history of the past faded away with technological development. It defines steampunk as freedom, deviation and fantastical utopia in positive point of view. Furthermore, aesthetic implication of steampunk style found in this research can make a boundary of steampunk style clear and become reference for future researches regarding steampunk fashion.
This study investigated the key role of sketches in creative fashion design by observing the cognitive process of idea development through a professional's design problem solving using the medium of hand sketching. The three-part semi-constrained design experiment with a professional designer, in which the participant designer was provided a source of inspiration image and asked to design a small collection of outfits, identified a fashion designer's idea development process as involving two phases of sketch processes: lateral and vertical transformation. Analysis of the video/audio recording and corresponding interviews validated lateral transformation in the designer's use of sketches to represent interpretation of the provided inspiration source. Through sketching, the designer transferred fuzzy ideas onto paper. Vertical transformation was observed through the designer's modification of previous ideas after reflecting on earlier sketches, with various ideas divided, manipulated, discarded, regrouped, and combined through sketching activities. The designer's sketching process is valuable design knowledge that facilitates the idea development process and ultimately triggers generation of creative ideas. Understanding it may benefit practitioners and educators.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the application of fashion-related web sites and their evaluation. 76 college students major in fashion design were surveyed and the evaluation criteria were classified into five categories such as the accuracy/reliability, the design of a picture, the ease of application, the communication/security, and additional services. The results of this study were as follows: 1. College students used web sites mostly to search for fashion trend information from magazine and fashion information sites. 2. While the media site was excellent in the evaluation criteria such as the accuracy/reliability, the design of a picture and the communication/security, the fashion information site was excellent in the evaluation criteria such as the accuracy/reliability, communication/ security and additional services. 3. The media site and the fashion information site generally ranked high and the fashion brand site ranked low in most evaluation items. 4. By the results of ANOVA, 12 items showed significant differences out of the total 19 items. 5. The purpose of this study is for providing not only the latest design technique trend for zero waste fashion, but information about creative fashion design education through eco-fashion industry trend in globally and domestic which is focusing on eco-fashion labelling. The research were processed with literature related eco, sustainable, green fashion books, former articles, newspapers, and web sites. The results as follows; The certification about eco-fashion product is moving to 'Life Cycle Assessment' from focused on primary process like material, finishing, dyeing. Especially simplicity of process means reducing the wastes. And fabric wastage for adult outwear was estimated 15% percent of total fabric used in general design studios. Three cases for Zero waste fashion were as follows; First, Jigsaw puzzle by Timo Rissane and Mark Liu were different zero waste methods, but the result was same. Rissene's method was based on traditional cutting like 'cut and sew' but traditional cutting can lead to design that have an abundance of fabric and drape. Jigsaw of Rissene was approached with description a pattern-cutting technique in which all piece interlock with each other generating no waste from design production. Another Jigsaw by Liu was related with innovative textile design. DTP makes the possibilities for zero waste garment production almost endless. The dress intricately cut from 10 pieces, wastes none of the fabric required to make it. Second, Subtraction Cutting by Julian Roberts provides unexpected fluid, organic forms and zero waste fabric. Utilizing Roberts plug(tunnel) technique enables any part of the garment that is removed for fit or aesthetics to be reincorporated into the design of garment. Third was 'Bio Couture' by Suzanne Lee. She has created garments from cellulose bacteria which grow in a bathtub using only green methods addressing in such as way ecological issues and exploring the future of fashion design in conjunction with technology.

This study examines the correlation between the characteristics of sustainable slow design, The outcome derived from the pro-environmental consciousness in fashion design, and the trends of modern fashion design. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, slow design for sustainability shows an environmental consciousness and stresses the ethical aspects of fashion design that take into account the wellbeing and sustainable development of human society. It also focuses on the continuos present in which the consistent pace of life endures, rather than pursuing speedy changes of fashion by titillating desire. Second, the five characteristics of slow design have been extracted from the analysis of the examples of fashion industry and other fashion-related areas. They are sustainability, recyclibility, handicraft, naturalness, and simplicity. Third, these characteristics of slow design have much to do with modern fashion genres. For instance, classical style fashions such as Chanel suit and Burberry coat have the same qualities of sustainability, while at the same time the Vintage fashion, which reinterprets the fashions from bygone eras in modern style, has the tendency of recyclibility, and the Hippie style, a resurrection of hand-touch spirit that emerged as a secondhand style expressionism resisting uniform mass production, has not only the quality of handicraft but also recyclibility.

The results of this study shows that the analysis of domestic fashion business curriculum shows that 'in the field' knowledge is in need for the new fashion education program where students can be more exposed to the industry environments especially in the area of markets, sales, distribution and management. Also, the analysis of fashion marketing curriculum of F.I.T and PARSONS school of design demonstrates their emphasis on practical as well as academic programs in marketing, distribution and merchandising. In addition, the research on sales person training program reflects that future sales persons will need stronger knowledge in customer analysis, product display and shop management. Based on these findings, this investigation proposes a revised second year fashion business undergraduate program. The academic program in this updated module will place heavier emphasis on such fields as marketing, distribution, product planning and sales management. Also recommended is that the second year students will be exposed to real-world experience by participating in various internships and workshops offered by major companies in the fashion field.
