The purpose of this study was to find anatomical variation of each small breed dog's dentition for designing more effective dental chews. Small breed dogs were volunteered for dental impressions with dental stone and alginate under tiletamine-zolazepam, tramadol, and medetomidine intravenous anesthesia. Twenty-two criteria were measured to compare dental impressions. Twenty-five dogs (9 Malteses, 8 Miniature Poodles, and 8 Shih-Tzus) were recruited. Statistically, Shih-Tzus had smaller teeth and shorter interdental spaces than those of Maltese and Miniature Poodles. Grossly, the distance between upper teeth and lower teeth was wider in Shih-Tzus. Shih-Tzu had different dental anatomy in comparative to Miniature Poodle and Maltese. It was recommended to design the dental chew considering these differences.

Three dogs were referred for emergency care after fall accidents. All cases showed hyperglycemia at initial testing, with no history of diabetes mellitus. After varying periods of time, the blood glucose levels in all cases returned to within the reference range. The present report describes three cases of typical trauma-associated hyperglycemia in dogs.
A experimental study of deep hypothermia for open heart surgery in 5 dogs was reviewed. Surface hypothermia in combination with limited cardiopulmonary bypass was employed. Circulatory dynamics were well maintained following cardiac arrest during one hour at $20^{\circ}C$. Some degree of acidosis usually developed after the arrest period but was gradually corrected during. rewarming Total circulatory occlusion could be maintained for at least one hour at $20^{\circ}C$ without evidence of cerebral damage in the dogs. Potassium in the serum after deep hypothermia was moderately decreased and it was the most severe change in the electrolyte. Free hemoglobin of serum was mild increased and it was one of advantages of combined hypothermia with limited cardiopulmonary bypass.
Neospora caninum is a coccidian parasite of animals. It is a major pathogen for cattle and dogs and it occasionally causes clinical infections in horses, goats, sheep, and deer. Domestic dogs are the only known definitive hosts for N. caninum. It is one of the most efficiently transmitted parasite of cattle and up to 90% of cattle in some herds are infected. Transplacental transmission is considered the major route of transmission of N. caninum in cattle. Neospora caninum is a major cause of abortion in cattle in many countries. To elicit protective immunity against abortion in cows that already harbor a latent infection is a major problem. This paper reviews information on biology, diagnosis, epidemiology and control of neosporosis in animals.

Five black-tailed prairie dogs showed weakness. emaciation and anemia during the lairage period in May 2005. Among them, one adult male and one female prairie dogs were found dead. The stamp smear for revealed a tremendous number of Giardia trophozoites. Histopathological examinations of the intestine showed slightly inflammatory changes and cystic enlargement of the crypts in the duodenal and jejunal mucous membranes. From these findings, this disease was diagnosed as giardiasis in black-tailed prairie dog.
This report described clinical findings and Magnetic resonance image (MRI) results in two small breed dogs with fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE). They were admitted with asymmetric acute-onset tetra/paraparesis with superficial pain sensation. In addition, there were no back pain and no progression of clinical signs. Cerebrospinal fluid and laboratory findings were evaluated. MRI revealed a similar focal intramedullary lesion of hyperintensive signals on T2-weighted images. Based on these findings, it was diagnosed as fibrocartilaginous embolic myelopathy in those two dogs.
The electrocardiogram (ECG) and electrolytes were measured to obtain diagnostic data after experimental obstruction of duodenum in 8 dogs. Clinical signs of these appeared lower heart rate, temperatures respiration and blood pressure than signs of preoperation. In changes of electrolytes and acid-base balances, all dogs appeared hyponatremiai hypochloremia, metabolic alkalosis, and increased pHi HCO3, scot in blood, but potassium values appeared to increase in 3 cases fl-inc.) and to decrease in 5 cases (K- dec.) Two of three in K-inc. and three of five in K-dec. died at 60 hrs and 72 hrs after obstruction respectly. In changes of ECGI amplitudes of the K-inc cases appeared high in T wave and low in R wave, but amplitudes of the K-dec cases appeared low T waver 57 segment and high in R wave. Conduction times of the K-inc appeared the shorted PR intervals but the K-dec appeared the prolonged PR interval. The changes of these appeared apparently in lead II.
To study the immunomodulatory effect of aquapuncture with canine parvovirus killed vaccine, the vaccine was inoculated into the dogs twice with on 2-week interval. The 6 dogs in the experimental group were inoculated through the Jiao-Chao acupoint, and 5 dogs in the control group were done subcutaneously. The antibody titer was determined by the hemagglutination inhibition test. The HI titers of the experimental group showed significantly higher on days 21 and 28 than those of the control group. The biochemical test on serum total protein, protein fractions and the A/G ration showed a slightly increased in $\gamma$-globulin on days 21 and 28. The hematological findings on total leukocytes and differential counts showed no significance. It was thought that the aquapuncture of the canine parvovirus killed vaccine through the Jiao-Cho acupoint may stimulate the antibody production.
A retrospective analysis was performed with 30 cases of canine urolithiasis presented in the period between January and December 2001 The miniature schnauzer (6 cases), maltese (5 cases) and Shih Tzu (4 cases) had higher incidences than other breeds. Canine urolithiasis occurred from one year till 12 years, but the most prevalent age was 3 years. Urinary calculi occurred more often in males (63%) than females. The most prevalent anatomic locations of calculi were urinary bladder (8 of 22 cases) and urethra (13 of 22 cases) in males and urinary bladder (10 of 18 cases) in females. The major mineral component of calculi was struvite (72%). In male dogs, out of 15 cases, 10 cases were struvite and 5 cases were calcium oxalate uroliths. And, in female dogs, 8 of 10 cases were struvite. In some cases, mineral composition and urine pH was not matched. In conclusion, in the dogs with predisposing factors for urolithiasis, regular examination or proper diet should be added to prevent the disease. And the mineral composition of calculi should not be predicted solely by the pH or crystal component of urine.
The three cases of cryptorchid are reported here in order to demonstrate the different surgical techniques that were carried out to remove crytochid testes in dogs and to introduce clinical cases on crytorchidism. Three dogs were presented in the clinic of Ecole Veterinaire de Lyon in May, 1998 with two in the left-sided unilateral abdominal cryptorchid and with one in bilateral inguinal mobile cryptorchid. There were two poodle at the age of more than 4 years old and 8 years old respectively with one boxer at 4 years old. In two abdominal cryptotchids, the skin was incised in caudal paramedian approach. Then, the linea alba were incised and cryptorchidectomy was peformed accompaning one with castration and the other with vasectomy by the request of the owners. In inguinal testicles, prescrotal skin incision was made to remove both testicles. The surgical outcome was good without any Their behaviors became agreeable as the proprietors reported. In the dog with vasectomy, the behavior changes were not noticeable.
