A Study on Costume Culture Interchange Resulting from Economic Factors

  • The purpose of this study is to prove that interchange is the a key factor in costume style changes through case analysis in costume culture interchange, and further, to assist in gaining understanding of costume style changes of the present and the future. Study findings show that the pattern of acceptance of costume interchange was mostly integration, though it was influenced by the method of transmission. The integration is a process in which a foreign costume culture is constructively mixed into the existing one, and a factor that changes the existing costume culture.

  • Costume of each age reflects its own history. Military costume is an reflections of war, social and geometrical background. Soldiers on their uniforms were at the battlefields with their lives and country on their shoulders. The main purpose of this writing is to study military costume of ancient empires in historical Point of view including especially those of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Crete, Greece, Etruria, Rome. As we will see, ancient military costume developed from earlier stages of uniforms into military costume in various ways. The types of military costume formed itself gradually but rapidly into sophisticated, useful, and excellent quality clothes. Military costume of early ancient empires signified its strength and were actual and symbolic costume that determined life and death, glory and disgrace.

  • This paper examines how costume, as a means of communication, acts on an individual a society, and a nation by analyzing especially the costume-wearing activities of Gandhi, an Indian national leader, in the nineteenth-century India colonized by Britain. The results are as follows. 1. Change of costume in Gandhi's case corresponds with mental change. 2. Gandhi's costume-wearing activities show his social status. 3. Gandhi's costume acts as a means of communication ; it manipulates and rules social events, transforming social -political identities. Thus, costume has a close relation to man's life. And it is an important means of communication influencing man and man's environments.

  • During nineteenth century, there broke out a great revolution in the history of girl's costume and with new condition toward girls. 1. Girl's costume followed their mother's attitude of the era and it was influenced by mother's costume. 2. Girl's costume was closely related with politics, economy, society culture and thought of the era. 3. Rousseau's Englightment made a revolution on girl's costume and it was direct revolution which affected on the French Revolution and the independence America. 4. Development of textile industry by industrial revolution brought on a change in raw material, quality, and quantity of textile, more gave a variety to raw material and ornament of girl's costume. 5. The invention of Sewing machine made it possible ready made production of girl's costume.

영화의상에 관한 국내 연구의 동향 분석 (Domestic Research Trend in Film Costume)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze domestic research trends in film costumes and to suggest future research directions. 122 articles published in 17 KCI journals from 1996 to Oct. 2013 were classified by year, journal, research method, film genre, country of film-making, analyzed subject, and contents of research. Film costume-related research was initiated in 1996 and the largest number of articles were reported in 2005~2009. Many of these researches were reported in Journal of the Korean Society Costume. Most film costume-related researches were qualitative based on co-analysis of literature and film. Film analysis was done on melodrama genre and was done Korean or American film. Large portion of the research was on costume analysis. Film costume-related research was mostly focused on character's plasticity and symbolism.

  • Ka Rae Do Gam Eui Gue(嘉禮都監儀軌) is records of wedding ceremonies of empresses and crown princesses in Yi Dymasty. This recors shows the sorts of court costume and the required quantity of dress material. And illustrations of ceremonial procedure in the Eui Gue give us an obvious picture of those clad in the costume. This study aims at analysing the secords of female costume and inuuiring into the transitional process of the conrt costume.

한국여성 전통복식의 양식변화에 관한 연구-개화기 이후의 복식을 중심으로- (A Study on the Style Change of Koran Women's Traditional Costume)

  • The present study aims at investigating the style change of the Korean women's traditional costume and analyzing its character in accordance with the social changes during the period from the civilization in 1884 to the present. The design of the tranditional costume which might be formed in the era of the Three Kingdoms had been slowly modified, and the Korean jacket and skirt design was settled in the Chosun period. In the end of the Chosun period, the drastic social changes such as civilization and revolution, together with the introduction of western dresses, affected strongly the traditional costume design. This led to a change from the old dress design to the stylish and practical one because civilized women and high school girls wore the modified costume composed of long jacket and short skirt or western style dresses. In recent years after 1960's Korean women usually wore traditional costumes as ceremonial dresses be-cause the western style dresses replaced the tra-ditional costume in everyday life. After 1970's, however, the A-line silhouette, combined with ornaments, adapted to the traditional costume in order to emphasize women's beauty, thereby resulting in remarkable modification in the tra-ditional costume. In those days, the large pro-duction of various textiles such as nylon and tetron and the appearance of the traditional costume designers played an important role in developing beautiful traditional costume designs and bringing closer together with general public women. These recent design changes might be classified generally by the following three stages ; (1) "the period of settlement" (1965 1975), (2) "the period of maturity" (1976 1985), and (3) "the period of stabilization" (1986 1995). The costume design of each period was discussed and compared in detail according to historical events. From this study, inherent beauty of the Korean traditional costume can be recognized again, and clarified its position as our folkdress. It is also suggested that in future its modification should be achieved continuously in accordance with tra-dition and modern sense.h tra-dition and modern sense.

개화기 이후 여성복식의 100년 변천사에 관한 연구 (A Study on the History of the Development of Korean Female Costume during the 100 Years after the Flowering Time)

  • This study intends to look through the development of female costume during the 100 years after the flowering time. By refocusing on the flow the Korean female costume, this study present representative costume style of that time and find out the fashion cycles. For this purpose, the clothes during the 100 years (from 1890 to 1993) were observed and changes of female costume, hair style and shoes were observed. Literature review and content analysis method used. The results of this study are as follows : For Korean costume, there were little changes in basic styles and only the jacket and skirt lengths were changed. After 1960s, as modernization of socio-cultural aspects were processed, Korean costume became formalized and structure of costume was duplicated. In the 1960's mint skirts and pantalons won popularity. In the 1970's , diverse modes including mini, midi, maxi, pantalon, hot pants appeared, and especially the jeans were popular. In the 1980's big & loose silhouette was in fashion in the beginning, and fit & flare silhouette later in the decade. In the 1990's styles emphasizing natural feminity came in fashion. In addition, by analyzing the development of female costume styles of Korea, Fashion cycles were found, expecially in the phenomenon of 70's styles repeating in the 90's.

코스튬플레이 패션에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Costume Play Fashion)

  • The article is alms to investigate the characteristics, the originality, and the interest of fashion design of costume play, which is recently specifically popularized among young fashion mania. The influence of commercialization power of the Disneyland and the animation characters of Japanese caricatures makes the costume play to be one of the main new generation culture. Since the costume play just begins at this moment, the full understanding of the costume play is hard because of the small amount of the materials and happenings of the phenomena. However it reveals the design trends and creativity of the new generation. As the investigation of costume play fashion and the types of costume play, the following results are obtained. 1. The originality of the costume play is thought to be induced from the mask which is used against the ghost in primitive ages, the fancy parade of halloween festival, commercial advertisements of Disneyland, the Japanese caricatures, and the animation games. 2. The distinctive characteristics of Korean costume play shows the massive behaviour, which is different from the individualized costume play in Japan. This facts show the parts of the interest culture of the persons who has the equal interest. The costume play is applied as the sound showing culture, in which the young generation express and enjoy themselves by"kki" - the passion of young energy. 3. The boom of costume play introduce the increased number of costume play shop, pro model, and designer. It also introduce the interest of the new fashion design for the young generations. Thus it is expected the new fashion infra structure in near future.ar future.
