Background Several attempts have been made to accurately diagnose the Sasnag Constitution. One of these attempts is to use a questionnaire. Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification(QSCC) has been revised several times and now used as QSCC II+. This study was designed to improve the accuracy of the revised Questionnaire for the Sasang Constitution Classification(QSCC II+). Method 1,054 people were gathered for this study and analyzed to check discrimination ability of current discriminant function of QSCC II+. They were outpatients who visited the hospital and the constitution was confirmed by the specialist of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Results Accuracy of QSCC II+ at Soeumin was improved from 74.9% to 79.3%, and there were no significant difference at Soyangin and Taeumin. Conclusion New discriminant function was constructed through discriminant analysis. And the accuracy of QSCC II+ was generally improved, especially in Soeumin.

1. Objectives Constipation is a common symptom affecting 16.5% of general population in Korean countries. However, many people are looking for constipation due to the hospital. The clinical studies in herbal medicine to cure rectal tenesmus and constipation caused by the stress of the case. 2. Methods We have tried researching effect of herbal medicines(Chungpyesagan - tang and kalkunseunggi-tang) treatments to Stress caused by Taeumin rectal tenesmus and constipation patient. 3. Results A Taeumin patient diagnosed to rectal tenesmus and constipation was treated with Taeumin herbal medicines (Kalkunseunggi - tang treatments) and change of patient's the feces number of times and abdomen discomfort were improved. 4. Conclusions The cause of constipation variety as was treatments is various. The constitutional treatment with Kalkunseunggi - tang may have an effect on management of constipation. So we report the healing process and results of this patient in this study.

Objectives This research was proposed to present clinical practice guideline (CPG) for Taeyangin Disease of Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM). This CPG was developed by the national-wide experts committee consisting of SCM professors. Methods This guideline was performed that search and collection of literature related SCM such as "Dongeuisusebowon", textbook of SCM, clinical guidebook of SCM and fundamental research to standardize diagnosis of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Journal search related clinical trial or human complementary medicine of SCM was performed domestic and overseas. Finally, 1 article was selected and included in CPG for Taeyangin disease. Results & Conclusions The CPG of Taeyangin disease include classification, definition and standard symptoms of each pattern. Taeyangin disease is classified into exterior-origin lower back (EOLB) disease and interior-origin small intestine (IOSI) disease by region of symptom. EOLB can be replaced with Oegam-yocheok and IOSI can be replaced with Naechok-sojang that is Korean pronuncation. EOLB disease is classified into lower back favorable symptomatology (LBFS) and lower back unfavorable symptomatology (LBUS). Lower back is to say Yocheok, so LBFS can be called Yocheok favorable symptomatology and LBUS can be called Yocheok unfavorable symptomatology. LBUS is to say paraparesis symptomatology or Haeyeok, that is Korean pronunciation, symptomatology. IOSI disease is classified into small intestine favorable symptomatology (SIFS) and small intestine unfavorable symptomatology (SIUS). Small intestine is to say Sojang, so SIFS can be called Sojang favorable symptomatology and SIUS can be called Sojang unfavorable symptomatology. SIUS is to say regurgitation symptomatology or Yeolgeok, that is Korean pronunciation, symptomatology.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of the experience prescription in 『Donguisusebowon(東醫壽世保元)』. Methods We examined the examples of the experience prescription in the pathology of 『Donguisusebowon』. Afterward, we considered the characteristics about the experience prescription of Junggyeong Jang and the Next Generation Doctors in 『Donguisusebowon』. Results and Conclusion 1. The Junggyeong Jang's experience prescription isn't modified despite the fact that it doesn't fit the constitutional disease and pharmacology, and many experience prescriptions are mentioned to in the pathology of 『Donguisusebowon』. But the Next Generation Doctors's experience prescription is modified, and a considerable number of experience prescriptions are not mentioned to in the pathology of 『Donguisusebowon』. 2. Jema Lee cited all of the Junggyeong Jang's experience prescription except Daesiho-tang(大柴胡湯) as an explanation for the constitutional disease, and cited a prescription that could not be used for the constitutional disease. And the pathological symptom of the Junggyeong Jang's experience prescription was used to establish the system of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine, so the Junggyeong Jang's experience prescription wasn't modifed. 3. Jema Lee cited a prescription that could be used for the constitutional disease. And the pharmacology of the Next Generation Doctors's experience prescription was used to establish the system of the Sasang Constitutional Medicine, so the Next Generation Doctors's experience prescription was modifed. 4. Jema Lee established the Sasang Constitutional Medicine based on the Existing Medicine. It was appeared in composition and name about the table of contents of the experience prescription in 『Donguisusebowon』.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to give account of effects of the Korean herbal medicine therapy which is based on the Sasang constitutional medicine for the patient who has suffered from scale of back caused by psoriasis. Method : Psoriasis patient was diagnosed Soeumin based on his nature and emotion, physical characteristics, symptoms. He was medicated Soeumin Goepungsan. Results and Conclusions : Psoriasis patient who was treated with Soeumin Goepoong-san showed improvement in Psoriasis symptom and general condition. This case study describes the effectiveness on psoriasis symptom by using Soeumin Goepoong-san.

Objective The purpose of this case study was to report improvements of a Soyangin patient with dysgeusia which a salty taste persisted in the mouth. Methods This patient was identified as Soyangin and treated by Yangkyuksanwha-tang-gamibang, acupuncture and moxa. Patient's symptom was assessed G/A(Global Assessment). Results and Conclusions The symptom of a lasting salty taste in the mouth was improved remarkably after using Korean medicine treatment, especially Yangkyuksanwha-tang-gamibang.

Objectives This paper was aimed to review experimantal and clinical articles on Yeoldahanso-tang(YDHS), figuring out the recent tendency and suggesting the future prospects of YDHS-related studies. Methods The articles published in Korean or English since 2000 were searched, screened, and classified into experimental or clinical studies. And we structured designs, methods and results of the included studies into each table for the experimental studies or the clinical studies. Especially tools to diagnose constitutions and patterns identified in clinical researches were also summarized in the tables. Results 28 articles are finally included. 14 experimental studies are mostly in vitro designs to show efficacy of YDHS. There are only 2 studies for the safety. Among 14 clinical studies, 12 case studies target disorders of central nervous system, viral infection, skin ulcer and so on. 2 studies are before and after studies on cerebral infarction and effects on liver function. Conclusions Based on the efficacy of YDHS on central nervous system, it acquires higher level of evidence such as randomized controlled trials in the future. In addition other diseases such as skin ulcer and so on, it needs to be done more specific experimental or clinical studies so that we can get statistically significant results.

Objectives : To overcome limitations of previous diagnostic systems and constitutional medicine by suggesting a new perspective of constitutional medicine and a system of Yin Yang and Five Phases that is applicable to many diseases untreatable by biomedicine. Methods : The Life Structure Diagram which shows the different distribution of Yin Yang and Five Phases according to constitution, reflects the non-local and simultaneous characteristics of Yin Yang and Five Phases. It overcomes previous diagnostic systems and constitutional medicine which were local and segmented. Each constitutional types were determined through their defining deep fractal pulse patterns, for which appropriate acupuncture methods and formulas were suggested. Results & Conclusions : A more effective differentiation of constitution and treatment could be achieved through the Life Structure Diagram, which could overcome limitations of pre-existing diagnosis and treatments of Korean Medicine.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to report the effects of Korean medical treatment (acupuncture, moxibustion, herb medicine) combined with intense pulsed light (IPL) on three postpartum patients with freckles worsened during pregnancy. Methods and Results The postpartum patients with freckles were treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, herbal medication and IPL. The energy density of IPL was selected modified according to skin types classified by Sasang constitutional medicine. This efficacy of treatment was evaluated with observation. After treatment, freckles as well as various postpartum symptoms are improved. Conclusions This case report shows that the Korean medical treatment combined with IPL is effective in the treatment of postpartum patient's freckles. However further studies are still necessary.

Objectives This case study is about a Taeeumin patient with Parkinson's disease identified as Dry-heat (Joyeol) pattern. In this study, we report significant improvement of motor and non-motor symptoms of this patient after Sasang constitutional medicine treatment. Methods The patient was identified as Taeeumin Dry-heat pattern and treated with Cheongsimyeonja-tang and acupuncture. The Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS) was used to assess the overall function of the patient. And the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) was used to assess the change of bradykinesia, tremor and dry mouth after the treatment. Results The UPDRS total score decreased from 145 points to 77 points after 5 weeks treatment. And symptoms of bradykinesia, tremor and dry mouth showed significant improvement in GAS after the treatment. Furthermore, constipation, sleep disturbance, dysuresia and anorexia were reported to be improved after treatment. Conclusions This study shows that Sasang constitutional medicine can be effective treatment for motor and non-motor symptoms caused by Parkinson's disease.
