  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the current status of registration of interventional studies focusing on children and adolescents in South Korea and the status of Korean medicine interventional studies through Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS). Methods CRIS was used to search interventional clinical researches which were registered from May, 2010 to October, 2018. Key words of 'child', 'children', 'adolescents', 'infant', 'toddler', 'elementary school student', 'middle and high school', 'middle school student', and 'high school student' were used. Results A total of 37 intervention clinical studies were selected. To identify the trends, years of registration in the CRIS, intervention types, disease categories, recruitment status, phase, institutions responsible for the research, consent, compensation and safety investigation were analyzed. Conclusions This study shows the current state of registration of interventional studies in children and adolescents in Korea. Since interventional studies in children and adolescents are essential for providing safe and effective treatment, further interventional studies, Korean medicine interventional studies and ethical considerations are needed.

Method: Study samples were composed of 78 student nurses who were from nursing dept. of one college in G city. All participants had their first clinical practice for 4 weeks at two general hospitals in Gwangju. The internal consistency of the total scale was Cronbach's $\alpha$= .883. Results: After the first clinical practice, the mean score of nurses' image in general was lower than that of nurses' image before the clinical practice. In five subcategories, before the first clinical practice, professionalism and expertness were the highest followed by role performance, vision of a career, and temperature as a nurse in order but after the first clinical practice, professionalism was the highest score followed by expertness, temperature as a nurse, role performance, vision of a career in the mean scores of nurses' image. • Purpose: This study was to identify the effects of self-administered hand reflexology on level of fatigue in college student nurses during clinical practice. Method: A non-equivalent control group, quasi-experimental research with pre and post-test design was used. Forty-seven student nurses in clinical practice were assigned to either an experimental or control group. The experimental group performed self-hand reflexology for 10 minutes once a day during the 5 days of clinical practice. Results: 1. While there was a significant difference in degree of fatigue and fatigue scores in the experimental group over time, there was no significant difference between the two groups. 2. Vigor score for the experimental group was significantly higher than those of the control group during the 5 days except for day 5, but there was no significant difference between the two groups. 3, Levels of fatigue for the experimental group increased after 1 hour in the 1st post time, but there was no significant difference between the groups. Conclusion: Self-administered hand reflexology was not found to be an effective method for relieving fatigue for student nurses in clinical practice. Also physiological effects were not identified in this study, and so further research is needed.

  • As a quality of dyadic relationships in the family, individuation refers to the interplay between the connectedness and separateness of family members. The aims of this study were: 1) to develop of the newly measure of Korean late adolescent's individuation; 2) to examine the reliability and validity of the newly developed measure. 435(165 male, 270 female) college students completed the Korean Late Adolescent Individuation Questionnare(KLAIQ), and Korean version of the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire(SACQ), and Korean version of the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire(SACQ). Using exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis three subdimensions of individuation were identified: Connectedness(7items), Self-confidence(5 items), and Parent control(4 items). A total 16 items of the KLAIQ were found to have acceptable reliability and face and construct validity. A total 16 items of the KLAIQ were found to have acceptable reliability and face and construct validity. Scale scores from the KLAIQ correlated in the predicted pattern with the SACQ. Individuated students demonstrated the highest college adjustment scores while ambiguous students yielded the lowest. Therefore, it would appear that the KLAIQ can adequately measure individuation in Korean late adolescence.

The subject of this study were 385 Korean students and 385 American counterparts. The data were collected by survey with questionnaires and analyzed by SPSS program for the frequency, percentile, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA and Duncan test. The results indicate that American students have more long-term personal direction than Korean counterparts and the effects of gender and social status are different in Korea and America. Korean students showed no difference according to these two variables but female America students indicate more long-term personal direction than male students and the time perspectives were different according to social status in America.

  • The purpose of this study was to redesign a problem-based learning (PBL) curriculum and compare the differences between the previous and redesigned PBL based on the results of course satisfaction and student assessments. The PBL was redesigned using curriculum design guidelines (including revisions of curriculum objectives, learning components, learning environments, and assessment methods) that were developed based on previous studies and evaluation results. A comparative study was employed using course satisfaction surveys from the previous and redesigned curricula, and a total of 45 students participated. We also compared student assessment results from concept mapping, learning issue reports, modified essay questions, and reflection journals. We identified four key findings. First, we explored the possibility that the redesigned PBL could be implemented by student facilitators without professors as tutors. Second, the redesigned PBL fostered group dynamics that facilitated developing communication skills and collaborative learning through small-group discussions. Third, the new learning elements added in the redesigned PBL made a meaningful contribution to enhancing students' clinical reasoning based on hypothetico-deductive reasoning. Fourth, concept maps in redesigned PBL contained more complex and various nodes and connections, and the levels of the nodes were more appropriate. The implications of this study can provide meaningful preliminary information for redesigning PBL curricula for medical students to develop their essential competencies through PBL.
