The author surveyed traumatized anterior teeth of 12~17 year old 9453(male 4740, female 4713) school students. The results were as follows: 1. The prevalence of traumatized anterior teeth was $10.3{\pm}0.6%$. 2. The prevalence of traumatized anterior teeth of male was $12.2{\pm}0.9%$, and that of female was $8.4{\pm}0.8%$. The prevalence of male was higher than that of female. 3. The distribution of traumatized teeth by severity was as follows: Class I-65.3%, Class II-20.7%, Class III-8.2%, Missing teeth-5.4%, Others-0.4%. 4. Maxillary central incisors had the highest trauma frequence. 5. Single fractures were found to occur more commonly than multiple fractures. 6. The percentage of treated person was 5.1%. 7. 72.3% of the sample was not affected by the traumatized anterior teeth, and 27.7% of the sample thought the traumatized anterior teeth ugly.
Partial or complete prosthesis is needed when teeth are lost due to various kinds of reason. Artificial teeth recover occlusion instead of natural teeth. Artificial teeth are required of esthetics, fragile resistance and abrasive resistance. Artificial tooth is made of acrylic resin or porcelain. Nowadays, acrylic resin artificial teeth are mainly used. Acrylic resin teeth are occluded with natural teeth, gold alloy, Ni-Cr alloy or porcelain etc. Acrylic resin teeth have similar translucency, gloss of natural teeth. And it has good chemical bond with denture base material, but it has low wear resistance. The aim of this study is to compare wear resistance among several denture teeth(Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar) and between artificial resin denture teeth and opposing 3 restorative materials(gold, Ni-Cr alloy, porcelain). Wear tests were conducted with a rotating wear testing apparatus(pin-on-disk type wear tester) under conditions of rpm 180, 75 minutes and constant loading of 50N. The upper part was the cusp of maxillary first molar and the lower part was a disk type restorative materials. To make similar oral environment, water was supplied continually. The acrylic resin teeth wear was determined by weighing the cusp each 5 minutes during 75 minutes test. Vicker's hardness tester was used to evaluate the surface hardness of test specimens. The SEM was used to evaluate the wear surfaces. The results were as follows: 1. Wear rates of acrylic resin teeth opposing to the restorative materials were high in order of Porcelain, Gold, Ni-Cr alloy (p<.05). 2. Wear resistance rate opposing to the Porcelain disk, was shown in order of Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar. The wear rate of opposing to porcelain disk was above two times more than that of other groups (p<.05). 3. Wear resistance rates opposing to the Gold, Ni-Cr alloy disk, was shown in order of Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar (p<.05). 4. A degree of the surface hardness is directly proportional to the degree of wear resistance. There are statistically significant differences between each groups (p<.05).

This study was undertaken in order to observe the prevalence of congenital dental anomalies especially that of oligodontia and supernumerary teeth in 1024 children at age from 4 to 14 years, through history taking, oral examinations, roentgenographic observations of subjects, and statistic analysis was made. The following results were obtained: 1. The prevalence of oligodontia in 1024 children was $6.45{\pm}.8$ percent with a total of 122 teeth absent in sixty-six subjects, excluding 3rd molars, and most of children (86.4%) who have congenitally missing teeth showed abscence of one or two teeth individually. 2. The teeth most frequently absent were the mandibular second premolar, maxillary second premolar, maxillary lateral incisor, mandibular central incisor, and mandibular lateral incisor in order. 3. There was no statistically significant difference found in tooth abscence in the following comparisons; .Male vs Female .Bilateral vs Unilateral .Maxilla vs Mandible .Right vs Left 4. The prevalence of supernumerary teeth in 1024 children was $4.79{\pm}.67$ percent with a total of 59 supernumerary teeth in forty-nine subjects, all of children who have supernumerary teeth showed one or two supernumerary teeth individually. 5. Statistically significant difference was found in supernumerary teeth in the comparison of male vs female, and they were more frequent in male.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency of congenital missing teeth and supernumerary teeth in cleft patients. The subjects were divided into bilateral cleft lip and palate(BCLP), unilateral cleft lip and palate(UCLP) and cleft palate alone(CP alone) groups. 97 cleft patients(BCLP 15, UCLP 70, CP alone 12) between 6-20 years old were evaluated. Panorama film, Orthodontic chart and initial intraoral photogram were employed for this research. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The incidence of congenital missing teeth in total cleft samples was $57.7\%$, and the incidence of supernumerary teeth was $26.8\%$. Each incidence was higher than non-cleft. 2. The incidence of congenital missing teeth was the highest in BCLP and the lowest in CP alone. 3. The number of congenital missing teeth per perso was usually one, and the frequency was higher in the maxillary lateral incisors$(67.8\%)$, and maxillary second premolar$(14.9\%)$ than other teeth. 4. Most of tooth number anomalies in cleft patients were found in maxilla, especially adjacent region to the cleft site.
Objectives : "Yayaoyuanfang" is a prescription book, compiled by Xuguozhen in 1267. In "Yayaoyuanfang", there are 13 chapters including "Throat, Mouth and Teeth". Because there are few prescription books focused only on mouth and teeth disease in traditional medicine, "Throat, Mouth and Teeth" in "Yayaoyuanfang" is distinctive. Methods : We try to analyze prescriptions by form, effectiveness and report experiences in "Yayaoyuanfang". Results : There are 95 prescriptions with 77 powder, 5 paste, 5 liquid, 2 granule and 5 other forms. Effectiveness of those are divided into teeth, gum and mouth. Effectiveness for teeth are about pains, weakness, cavity, discoloration and so on. Effectiveness for gum are about pain, swelling, weakness, shrinking, etc. Effectiveness for mouth is about bad breath. Conclusions : "Throat, Mouth and Teeth" in "Yayaoyuanfang" has professional prscriptions for throat, mouth and teeth with several form and effectiveness.

The author studied the response to the stimulation of an electric pulp stimulator of healthy 854 permanent anterior teeth in 122 children aged from six to eleven years old, during different stages of tooth development. The results were as followings: 1) In completely open apices, 13.1% (18 teeth) showed positive responses, and 86.9% (120 teeth) showed negative responses. In two-thirds open apices 33.1% (75 teeth) showed positive responses, and 66.9% (152 teeth) showed negative responses. In one-third open apices 57.8% (118 teeth) showed positive responses, and 42.2% (86 teeth) showed negative responses. In closed apices 80.0% (228 teeth) showed positive responses, and 20.0% (57 teeth) showed negative responses. 2) The number of positive responses increased in each upper and lower central incisors during the stages of root development, but not in upper lateral incisors. 3) There were no significant differences statistically in responses between the teeth of the right and left sides and the upper and the lower jaw, in the same stages of root development.
Background and Objectives To evaluate the difference in near-infrared (810 nm) laser energy transmission through teeth with and without cracks. Materials and Methods Extracted teeth were sectioned and examined visually for the presence of cracks with the aid of photographs and a trans-illuminator. Fourteen sections, each with cracks (Group A) and no cracks (Group B) were identified and placed 15 mm from the tip of a 300 micron fiber, prior to activation with an 810 nm diode laser (0.1W, 50 ms interval,100 ms duration). A power meter positioned behind the tooth recorded the average energy that was transmitted through the samples. Unpaired t-test analysis was used to determine if the tooth sections with cracks allowed higher power passage compared to sound teeth. Results The mean power recording for the cracked teeth (Group A) was significantly greater (p = 0.0005) than that for the non-cracked teeth (Group B). Conclusion Within the limitations of this study, it is evident that significantly higher laser energy passes through teeth with cracks in comparison to teeth without cracks. A recent clinical study has also shown that lasers could be used to assess symptomatic cracked teeth. Hence, further research is required to determine the relative increase in energy required to identify symptomatic cracked teeth.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the vitality of the teeth in and adjacent to the mandibular fracture line according to variable conditions of fracture and to establish the protocol of treatment of fracture line teeth. Materials and Methods : The vitality of 97 teeth in fracture line and 104 teeth adjacent to fracture line of 52 patients were invested preoperatively. Of these, 66 teeth in fracture line and 72 teeth adjacent to fracture line were monitored at least 6 months after operation. An electric pulp tester was used to measure pulpal response. The relationships between the vitality of teeth in variable time(preoperation, immediate post-operation; within 1 week after operation, and 6 months after operation) and variable conditions of fracture(horizontal, vertical gap of fracture line, the number of fracture line)were evaluated statistically. Result : The vitality of fracture line teeth in the 6 months after operation statistically differed by the vertical gap of fracture line and the number of fracture line. The vitality of fracture line adjacent teeth in the immediate post-operation only statistically differed by the vertical gap of fracture line. There were statistically differences between preoperative EPT value and vitality of fracture line teeth on 6 months after operation. There were 5 cases of complications including periapical and periodontal abscess. Of these, only one tooth was extracted and the others were well treated with endodontic treatment and subgingival curettage. Conclusion : It is recommended to retain teeth and to monitor the vitality of teeth in and adjacent to fracture line, unless there is an absolute indication for extraction.
The primary objective of this study is to estimate of the mesiodistal crown diameters of the unerupted permanent successors derived from the mesiodistal crown diameters of the deciduous teeth in Korean population. The subjects were 54 individuals (twenty nine boys and twenty five girls) with normal occlusion aged 6 to 13 years. The mesiodistal crown diameters of the deciduous and the successional permanent teeth were measured from the longitudinal dental cast models using the sliding calipers (Mitutoyo Co.). From the study, the results are as follows; 1. Sex differences of mesiodistal won diameters were less in the deciduous teeth, but male were more than that of female in the successional permanent teeth. 2. The mesiodistal crown diameters of the deciduous central incisors, lateral incisors, canines were smaller than that of the successional permanent teeth and the deciduous 1st molars, and 2nd molars were more larger than that of the successional permanent teeth. 3. Size differences between sum of the mesiodistal crown diameters of central incisors and lateral incisors in the decidous teeth and the successional permanent teeth were $7.20{\pm}1.79mm$ in upper, $5.38{\pm}1.64mm$ in lower and that of canine,1st molar and 2nd molar in the deciduous teeth and the successional permanent teeth were $0.56{\pm}1.19mm$ in upper, $2.22{\pm}1.19mm$ in lower. 4. In male, the correlation coefficients between the upper deciduous central incisor and the successional permanent tooth (r = 0.57) and in female, the correlation coefficients between the upper deciduous 1st molar and the successional permanent tooth (r=0.67) appeared the highest. 5. The regression constants were determined to estimate the mesiodistal crown diameters of the unerupted successional permanent teeth.
Objectives : The writer aimed to examine the dynamic aspect on damage and to be conducive to the swift cure according to right treatment to educate prevention of injury through surveying on the number of the damaged teeth given injury, tooth kind, type in damage, place and cause for being damaged, frequency by month and by time level, and location of the damaged tooth. Methods : Targeting 343 teeth of receiving injury in 201 patients who visited the department of pediatric dentistry, the department of preservation, and the oral and maxillofacial surgery in a dental hospital in Cheonan city from April 2007 to April 2009, by having the dental injury as the main reason, the following conclusions were obtained. Results : 1. Deciduous teeth were indicated to be the highest in imperfect luxation with 60.7%, and were indicated to be in order of crown fracture with 25.5%, root fracture with 12.4%, and perfect luxation with 1.4%. The permanent teeth were indicated to be the highest in crown with 58.1%, and were indicated to be in order of imperfect luxation with 27.3%, root fracture with 13.1%, and perfect luxation with 1.5%(p<0.001). 2. In case of deciduous teeth for a place with damage, the home was indicated to be the highest with 31.7%. The permanent teeth were indicated to be the highest(p<0.001) in the road and stairs with 40.4%. As to a cause for damage, both deciduous and permanent teeth were indicated to be the highest(p<0.001) in a cause for falling with 53.1% and 30.8%, respectively. 3. As for a treatment method, in case of deciduous teeth, the close observation was indicated to be the highest with 46.9%. In permanent teeth, the resin restoration was indicated to be the highest(p<0.001) with 22.2%. Dental injuries in deciduous teeth and permanent teeth are showing diverse aspects. Conclusions : It is important to arrange guidelines on cure of the damaged teeth by injury through continuing a dynamic research on these aspects. Also, the damage in deciduous teeth may have direct and indirect influence upon growth in successional permanent teeth. Thus, through careful treatment, the injury needs to be minimized. It is considered to be likely necessary for a right coping method when injury occurs, and above all, for enough prior education so that injury cannot occur.
