The longer the input sentences, the worse the parsing results. To improve the parsing performance, many methods about long sentence segmentation have been reserarched. As an isolating language, Chinese sentence has fewer cues for sentence segmentation. However, the average frequency of comma usage in Chinese is higher than that of other languages. The syntactic information that the comma conveys can play an important role in long sentence segmentation of Chinese languages. This paper proposes a method for classifying commas in Chinese sentences according to the context where the comma occurs. Then, sentences are segmented using the classification result. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the comma classification reaches 87.1%, and with our segmentation model, the dependency parsing accuracy of our parser is improved by 5.6%.

This paper proposes a phrase-based indexing system based on the phrase. the larger syntax unit than a single keyword. Early information retrieval systems with indexing system matching single keyword is simple and popular. But with single keyword matching it is very hard to represent the exact meaning of documents and the set of documents from retrieval is very large, therefore it can't satisfy the user of the information retrieval systems. Web documents include lots of syntactic errors, the natural language parser with high quality cannot be expected in Web. Partial trees, even not a full tree, from fully bottom-up parsing is still useful for extracting phrases, and they are much more discriminative than single keyword for index. It helps the information retrieval system enhance the efficiency and reduce the processing overhead, too.

This paper describes a fingerprint classification on the basis of feature points(whorl, core) and feature vector and uses a syntactic approach to identify the shape of flow line around the core. Fingerprint image is divided into 8 by 8 subregions and fingerprint region is separated from background. For each subregion of fingerprint region, the dominant ridge direction is obtained to use the slit window quantized in 8 direction and relaxation is performed to correct ridge direction code. Feature points(whorl, core, delta) are found from the ridge direction code. First classification procedure divides the types of fingerprint into 4 class based on whorl and cores. The shape of flow line around the core is obtained by tracing for the fingerprint which has one core or two core and is represented as string. If the string is acceptable by LR(1) parser, feature vector is obtained from feature points(whorl, core, delta) and the shape of flow line around the core. Feature vector is used hierarchically and linearly to classify fingerprint again. The experiment resulted in 97.3 percentages of sucessful classification for 71 fingerprint impressions.
In this study, comments on restaurants, movies, and mobile devices, as well as tweet messages regardless of specific domains were analyzed for sentimental information content. We proposed a system for extraction of objects (or aspects) and opinion words from each sentence and the subsequent evaluation. For the sentiment analysis, we conducted a comparative evaluation between the Structural SVM algorithm and the Latent Structural SVM. As a result, the latter showed better performance and was able to extract objects/aspects and opinion words using VP/NP analyzed by the dependency parser tree. Lastly, we also developed and evaluated the sentiment detector model for use in practical services.

This study aimed to design a semi-automatic web-based pilot system 1) to build a Korean novel geo-name, 2) to update the database using automatic geo-name extraction for a scalable database, and 3) to retrieve/visualize the usage of an old geo-name on the map. In particular, the problem of extracting novel geo-names, which are currently obsolete, is difficult to solve because obtaining a corpus used for training dataset is burden. To build a corpus for training data, an admin tool, HTML crawler and parser in Python, crawled geo-names and usages from a vocabulary dictionary for Korean New Novel enough to train a named entity tagger for extracting even novel geo-names not shown up in a training corpus. By means of a training corpus and an automatic extraction tool, the geo-name database was made scalable. In addition, the system can visualize the geo-name on the map. The work of study also designed, implemented the prototype and empirically verified the validity of the pilot system. Lastly, items to be improved have also been addressed.
In this thesis. we present a new method for inducing a probabilistic dependency grammar (PDG) from text corpus. As words in Korean are composed of a set of more basic morphemes, there exist various dependency relations in a word. So, if the induction process does not take into account of these in-word dependency relations, the accuracy of the resulting grammar nay be poor. In comparison with previous PDG induction methods. the main difference of the proposed method lies in the fact that the method takes into account in-word dependency relations as well as inter-word dependency relations. To access the performance of the proposed method, we conducted an experiment using a manually-tagged corpus of 25,000 sentences which is complied by Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). The grammar induction produced 2,349 dependency rules. The parser with these dependency rules shoved 69.77% accuracy in terms of the number of correct dependency relations relative to the total number dependency relations for best-1 parse trees of sample sentences. The result shows that taking into account in-word dependency relations in the course of grammar induction results in a more accurate dependency grammar.
In this paper, word sense disambiguation methods utilizing a knowledge base based on a semantic network are introduced. The basic idea is to keep track of a set of paths in the knowledge base which correspond to the inctemental semantic interpretation of a input sentence. These paths are called the semantic paths. when the parser reads a word, the senses of this word which are not involved in any of the semantic paths are removed. Then the removal operation is propagated through the knowledge base to invoke the removal of the senses of other words that have been read before. This removal operation is called recusively as long as senses can be removed. This is called the recursive word sense removal. Concretion of a vague word's concept is one of the important word sense disambiguation methods. We introduce a method called the path adjustment that extends the conctetion operation. How to use semantic association or syntactic processing in coorporation with the above methods is also considered.
