This thesis is a study on Sook-Jae Lim(1899~1937) and Korean modern design. In modern Korea, design like most cultural advances came from western culture, that was introduced via Japan. So Korean design can be betterunderstood from observing Japanese modern design history. The research on Japanese modern design, however, is not being done actively. Sook-Jae Lim was the first Korean to graduate from the Department of Design at Tokyo Fine Arts School (currently the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music). He died at a premature 38 years old, so very little of his works exist. That makes the study about him very difficult. From this perspective, the study aims to examine modern design concepts and styles accepted into Korea from Japan and position Lim as an early design pioneer in Korean design history, by using research of Korean and Japanese design fields in the modern era with focus on Lim and his works. Chapter II researches the process of how the concept of design was formed in modern Japan and how the "Art-Nouveau" style not only represents early modern design but also features Lim's works dominantly. Chapter III looks into the process of how the concept of design was formed and which design styles were introduced and applied in modern Korea. Chapter IV analyzes how Lim's viewpoint on design and his works were developed with observations about the tendency of the Japanese design field and curriculums of the Tokyo Fine Arts School during the period of his college days.
People are most commonly divided by their nationality, but that does not mean they share the same culture. Even for people from one cultural background, subcultures play an important role for diversity and identity, and popular music is one way to express them. This study analyzed 6 songs of the Hip Hop genre from the US, Germany and South Korea, with one song each from the time of first emergence of the term 'Hip Hop' and one song each from 2016, selected on the basis of popularity indicated by music record sales and specialist literature on the history of Hip Hop. Through semiotic analysis of early and recent Hip Hop in each country, the changes in popular Hip Hop over time were examined. The results of this study show that through standardization, Hip Hop in the three countries has superficially become more similar and more focused on the individual, but on a detailed level shows significant differences: while U.S. Hip Hop refers to the American Dream, German Hip Hop displays an extreme image of masculinity, and Korean Hip Hop deals with private thoughts. Although popular Hip Hop nowadays does not explicitly exercise social criticism it is still ascribed the symbolic significance of a rebellious and revolutionary cultural practice that can be used to criticize and change culture as well as society.
Gianni Versace was a designer who established his unique fashion world by thinking creatively and using rich design sources. The purpose of this study is to present designers a methodology for creative and characteristic design development by searching Gianni Versace's idea source for fashion design. As a method of the study, visual and textual data were investigated for Versace's fashion and design source especially focusing on those elements that inspired him. Versace was born in the southern area of Italy in 1946. Ever since his childhood, he had a lot of experience with clothes because his mother was a dressmaker. His first collection was made in 1978, and Versace became one of the most famous fashion designers in the world within 20 years. He used a wide range of design sources such as history, culture, and art and created his design world with it. He focused on four important epochs. They were classicism, Byzantium, the eighteenth century centering on Baroque, and the 1920s and 1930s centering on Madeleine Vionnet and Madame Gres. Among cultural elements, costume design for ballet and opera and rock 'n' roll music inspired him greatly. Also, Pop art and various paintings such as Chagall's and Delaunay's had a huge effect on Versace. With these elements, he created a bold and unique coordination of style by mixing & matching history, genre, material, and style into his design. Thus he completed an extraordinary and original fashion style by emphasizing on decorative and glamorous points and changing a way of thinking.

This is a preliminary report on the first segment of a continuing and prospective teaming disorder study project in Korea. Study subjects were 197 children, aged between 6 and 15 referred for psychiatric evaluation of scholastic problems. Demographic data, psychiatric diagnoses and intelligence and achievement test results were reviewed and analyzed. Analyses of data lead to the following conclusions : (1) About 20.8% of children referred for scholastic problems were diagnosed of teaming disorder(LD). The most prevalent diagnosis among these children with scholastic problem was emotional disorder, especially depressive disorder(33%), (2) The comorbid rate of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) of 41 children with LD was 44%, (3) Male/female ratio was 5.8:1 among all of the LD children, 17:1 among children with LD and ADHD and 3.6:l among children with LD but without ADHD, (4) 83% of children with LD scored above middle level on socioeconomic status(SES), (5) Age, SES, IQ, family psychiatric history, past history of medical and psychiatric illness, onset of age, pattern of peer relationship, number of friends, presence of adaptation problem and academic achievements of children with LD and ADHD compared to those of children with LD but without ADHD. No significant differences between two groups were found on age, SES, IQ, family psychiatric history, past history of medical and psychiatric illness, pattern of peer relationship, number of friends and presence of adaptation problem. However, there were significant differences in academic achievements of Korean language total, speaking and listening score, arithmetic score, social science score and music score of children with LD and ADHD compared to those of children with LD but without ADHD. Also there was an ealier onset of age in LD and ADHD group when compared to LD but without ADHD group.
The corridors to the north and south of the $Takl{\bar{a}}m{\bar{a}}k{\bar{a}}n$ (塔克拉瑪干 Ta-ke-la-ma-gan) Desert are the most important regions for cultural confluence on the Silk Road, where caravans made it to the Chinese capital or the Korean Peninsula by the northern road, through the city of Turfan, or the southern path of Khutan. Being an important part of the Silk Road in the course of history, this region was heavily influenced by the cultures of various nations and ethnic communities whose merchants utilized the road to advance their business. The region's language, writing system and literary structure were also affected, so much so that in the course of its tumultuous history, many words, phrases and terms belonging to neighboring cultures found their way into the region, leaving their mark on its linguistic structure. Of the cultural exchanges that took place between the peoples of the region, conspicuous traces can be seen in the architecture, music, literature, texts, and inscriptions. Located in the Turfan region, the minaret of Su Gong (蘇公 Su Gong ) is host to an inscription which bears many signs of such exchanges. As so far no independent research has been conducted to identify the cultural, literary and structural features conveyed in this inscription, the present paper is an attempt to study the inscription in terms of the script, language and syntax in order to unravel the effects of cultures prevalent on the Silk Road on this particular inscription. This study mainly aims to investigate the linguistic structure of the inscription and the impact of the Persian language on Silk Road culture. In fact, we approach the inscription as a symbol of cultural exchange on the Silk Road and will focus on the tradition of Persian inscription-making which affected the Turfan inscription.
During the modern age, various fields have fundamentally changed from the preconceived ideas of the past. The concept of time-space relationship changed also. E. J. Marey was almost the first one to visualize the movement of animals and people through scientific methods. Frank B. Gilbreth used more precise photographic equipments to develop more accurate and specific body movement diagrams. The emergence of visualization of body movement is not the only product from the scientific field. The new concept of time-space can be easily noticed in modem art, music and dance. In space design, Futurism attempted to represent the dynamism and speed in a sculptural form. On the other hand, there were examples to further investigate the specific analysis of body movements such as 'Scientific Management'. Body movement diagrams are widely used in various projects in contemporary space design. The difference is that now the design process is more integrated with the analysis. The representation of speed and the container of movements are interwoven in a complex manner in which fluid relationship between body and space is possible. Three types can now be considered: Object, Container and Interactivity. This study attempts to analyze brief history of body movement studies and their application for contemporary space design.

Background and Aim : As one of the World Cultural Heritage, Joseonwangjosillok is a history book including general state affair, social affair, economy, astronomical and atmospheric phenomena, art, music, eat. as well as the very private life of the king. With Joseonwangjosillok, we will look into health and death of the king and apply it to the regimen and recommended life-style of the aged. Materials and Method : With the archive of Joseonwangjosillok and medical text books such as Donguibogam Huang Di Nei Jing as reference, we tried to inquire the work and life of the kings of the Joseon dynasty, find connection with the regimen recommended life-style, and suggest medical guidelines for the aged as geriatric society is coming. Result : The Kings of the Joseon dynasty had omnipotent power, so that they lived quite much better lift than common people. But their average lifetime is estimated to be no better than that of ethers. Probably overwork, mental stress, rich fatty diet and lack of exercise took healthy life from them. Conclusion : Even if they had unlimited power, the state-of-the-art medical treatment hardly helped the Kings live better and longer life than common people. To keep and promote healthy lift for the aged, they need moderate exercise, appropriate rest, balanced diet, seen dissolving with reasonable environment.
Long Sleeve Costume is often seen not only in ancient China but also in various neighboring places throughout the time. Costumes show the societies cultural preferences and values at that time, and Long Sleeve Costume is no exception. In my research, 1 focused on the time period from Han Dynasty to Tang dynasty in ancient China. During Han dynasty, Shenyl style robe(심의형 포) was widely worn, and it shows very little foreign cultural influence. For the period of Wei·Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, foreign aspects of costume started to show up Possibly due to the influence of Buddhism and influx of foreign tribes. For instance, it is not too difficult to find hufu (호복) as well as Shenyl style robe, and it appears this Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties may have been a transitional period of accommodating two cultures without complete merger. Now, when it comes to Tang dynasty, we observe a creation of new cultural form in costume after adopting exotic culture. Because Sh ny style robe. often observed for a long time in Chinese history, disappeared, and tuanling(단영) and fanling(번영) became the main stream in their costume style in Tang dynasty.

This study, on the American hippies and their fashion, is composed of an examination of the following; the social and cultural circumstances of America in the late 1960's, the charac? teristics of the hippies that appeared in the midst of the foresaid background, how those factors materialized in the hippies' distinctive fashion and how they influenced tahion to come. The hippies were composed of the young generation that revolted against all general conventional values of American society and seceded from it, seeking for the ideas of love and freedom. They expressed their newly defined culture-rock music based on drug culture, psychedelic art, rejection of an established society and ethnic tastes that sprang up from nostalgia concerning nature-by means of their own distinctive fashion. And as a revival of the hippies' fashion, neo-hippie and grunge fashions newly appeared in the F /W season of 1992 and afterwards, adding fresher and more abundant sensibility to the original image and layered look of the hippies. The hippies' fashion has not only played a significant part in modem fashion history but will continue to exert its influence in the 1990's as the hippies generation are presently the center of American culture and leaders of world culture. In conclusion, various sorts of "individ- uality" and "the pleasure in the wearing itself" expressed by the original layering of the hippies' fashion presents new promise in the coming development at fashion.
