Objectives The purpose of this study is to improve the accessibility of Korean medicine by standardizing managements, improving quality of medical services, and reducing medical costs in ankle sprain by develop clinical pathway (CP). Methods The development of CP in this study is based on clinical practice guideline (CPG) for ankle sprain, and aims to maximize the quality of treatment, such as reducing treatment time and medical costs, and increasing patient satisfaction through standardized pathway. The CP was revised after consultation and review by the advisory committee. The advisory committee is consisted of a stakeholder group applying the CP. Results In previous research studies, there were no Korean medicine CP studies on ankle sprain. Based on CPG for ankle sprain and analysis of medical records, 6 types of time task matrix type CP (for Korean medicine doctors, medical assistant, patients) and 4 types of algorithm type CP (for Korean medicine clinics, Korean medicine hospitals, and cooperative practicing hospitals, public medical centers) were derived as a result. Conclusions Ankle sprain CP is expected to not only increase patient satisfaction and maximize the quality of treatment, but also reduce the financial burden of health insurance by reducing medical costs.

Objectives: The aim of this case report is to present abdominal pain relief in a patient diagnosed with colorectal cancer with several organ metastases. Methods: The patient was treated with herbal medicine, acupuncture, and moxibustion. The effect of the treatment was measured by a numeric rating scale (NRS). Results: The NRS of the patient's abdominal pain was reduced after Korean medicine treatment. Conclusions: This case report suggests that Korean medicine may be effective for treating abdominal pain in cancer patients. However, additional study is needed to confirm interactions between Korean medicine and the control of abdominal pain.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the trends in research on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) using Korean traditional medicine. Methods: This review included studies related to the treatment of NAFLD, irrespective of the year of publication. The search terms were "nonalcoholic fatty liver disease", "non-alcoholic fatty liver", "nonalcoholic hepatitis", "herb", "herbal medicine", "acupuncture", and "traditional medicine". The studies were analyzed according to the type of research. Results: After screening, 179 studies were selected from the 592 identified by the search. The types of studies were 151 in vivo or in vitro studies, 5 randomized controlled trials, 12 case reports, 2 unspecified clinical studies, 8 review articles, and 1 article that was difficult to classify. Conclusion: Analysis of the trends in Korean traditional medicine treatment by reviewing the studies on NAFLD revealed a focus on experimental studies rather than clinical studies. Therefore, multifaceted and well-designed studies are needed.

Objectives: Patients with polycythemia vera can experience many symptoms, including dizziness, headache, and fatigue, caused by a high red blood cell mass and blood viscosity. Some symptoms persist even after appropriate treatment. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Korean medicine on dizziness following polycythemia vera treatment. Methods: A patient diagnosed with polycythemia vera was treated with Korean medicine, including pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, and herbal medicine. We used a numeral rating scale (NRS) and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) to observe the effects of the treatment. Results: After treatment, the hematocrit and hemoglobin increased to within normal range, and the NRS scores for dizziness and fatigue, subjective discomfort, and DHI scores decreased compared with the preadmission values. Conclusions: This report shows that Korean medicine helped to relieve dizziness in a patient with polycythemia vera. However, we need further studies to establish treatment regimens for polycythemia vera symptoms.

This study is to show the clinical effect of additional CP Pharmacopuncture on hypoesthesia of lower limb which was occurred by laminectomy. The patients were treated using CP Pharmacopuncture, and other treatments including acupunture, moxibustion and herbal medication. The effect of treatment was measured by Numeric Rating Scale(NRS) and American Spinal Injury Association(ASIA) scale. After treatment, NRS was gradully reduced and ASIA scale's score was incresed. These results suggest that CP Pharmacopuncture might be a possible therapeutic option for hypoesthesia of lower limb which was occurred by laminectomy.

Objectives The objective of this study is to propose postoperative rehabilitation for spondylolisthesis after posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) in Korean medicine and to report its effectiveness. Methods There were two patients who were received Korean medicine with acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping and exercise treatment after PLIF. Patients were evaluated numeric rating scale (NRS), Oswestry disability index (ODI), pain free walking distance (PFWD), Korean modified index (K-MBI), EuroQol-5 dimension (EQ-5D) index. Results Case 1 was improved NRS from 7 to 3, Case 2 was improved NRS from 7 to 2. Also, ODI, PFWD, K-MBI, EQ-5D score were improved in both cases. Conclusions This study suggests that Korean medicine rehabilitation could be effective for spondylolisthesis after PLIF.

Background : Currently, the absence of a unified terminology and proper translation about Traditional Korean Medicine is a problem that should be solved. Although Traditional Korean Medicine has undergone steady growth in popularity during the past years, the Westerner's poor access to information has been drawback to its reception in the West. Objective : This research is aimed to seek system for standardization of stroke terminology and proper translation into English. Conclusion : We proposed the method of making unified terminology and translation about stroke in Traditional Korean Medicine.

Objectives : This study reports changes in liver function test (LFT) after Korean Medicine treatment in patients admitted to Korean Medicine hospital with abnormal LFT. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the Korean medicine treatment and abonormal LFT to verify safety of Korean medicine treatment by analyzing index of LFT. Methods : From Oct. 2015 to Sep. 2020, the result was analyzed for 91 patients admitted to the Pohang Korean Medicine Hospital and received Korean Medicine treatment. Asparate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and total bilirubin (TB) were compared at admission and discharge. Results : Comparison between admission and discharge LFT showend AST decreased from 52.72±25.08 to 43.2±19.20, ALT from 70.85±32.40 to 62.13±29.40, and TB from 1.33±0.37 to 0.81±0.29. Conclusions : After Korean medicine treatment, AST, ALT, and TB decreased compared with the values at admission. Further studies on safety of Korean Medicine treatment are warranted.

Objective: This study examined the effectiveness of Pyung-Hyung acupuncture and herbal medicine for a hemiplegic patient diagnosed with intracerebral hemorrhage. Methods: The patient was treated with Pyung-Hyung acupuncture and herbal medicine for one month. Intracerebral hemorrhage symptoms were evaluated using the Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), the Manual Muscle Test (MMT), and brain CT images. Results: Following Pyung-Hyung acupuncture and herbal medicine, K-MBI, MMT, and brain CT image results improved. Conclusion: This case showed that Pyung-Hyung acupuncture and herbal medicine effectively treated intracerebral hemorrhage with hemiplegia.
