Customer centered supply chain Management is becoming a very important issue for manufacturing and distribution company. Increasingly, leading companies improve their competitiveness by shorting the time to delivery from warehousing to delivering, increasing the level of customer service. They also do their best to collaborate with suppliers and customers based on the information sharing. This case introduces a integrated approach to develop a logistics automation and information system for the spare parts distribution center of L electronics. We pursue to optimize the supply chain by implementing intelligent logistics system which has the capabilities of responding to the changes in market demands. This would provide many implications to the clients in solving logistics problems and secure superior competitiveness.

We propose a series of methodologies that can evaluate relative efficiency of logistics units(centers) in three categories; managerial, cost, and operational efficiency. Inputs and outputs of logistics systems are first defined. Appropriate quantitative and qualitative measures for the three categories are then selected. Employed also are Analytic Hierarchy Process, Weighted Scoring Method, Stochastic Frontier Model, and Data Envelopment Analysis for the development of a comprehensive assessment scheme. Our scheme not only assesses the degree of relative efficiency of logistics units but also identify the sources of inefficiency in each unit The methodologies are applied to a large telecommunications company which operates 12 distribution centers nation wide. Relative efficiencies of the centers are compared using 1995-1997 performance data. Summarized are the level of efficiency of each distribution center for each of the three categories. The degree and sources of inefficiency of each distribution center are also discussed.

Following the increasing importance of logistics function in today's company operation, this work explores the mechanism for cooperation within a supply chain, especially between a firm and an independent logistics supplier. We first characterize the optimal linear logistics contract based upon the recent developments in contract theory, and then investigate the effect of such a contract on the firm's inventory policy. The results indicate that the order quantity becomes smaller and the lead time becomes shorter and under the optimal contract than without the incentive scheme. Accordingly, the service level under the optimal contract becomes higher. These findings are in accordance with the literature on vertical control and JIT (Just in Time) philosophy.

This study suggests an approach for determining fleet size for LTL (less -than-truckload) transportation with dynamic demand for on-time supply of the parts between the assembly line in an automobile company and its part suppliers in Korea. The vehicles operated by the transportation trucking companies in Korea in general can be classified into three types depending on the ways how their expenses occur; company -owned truck, mandated truck which is owned by outsider who entrusts the company with its operation, and rented truck (outsourcing) . With the forecasted monthly production data a year, a heuristic algorithm is developed to determine the number of company-owned trucks, mandated trucks, and rented trucks in order to minimize the expected annual operating cost, which is based on the solution technologies used in the aggregate production planning and vehicle routing problem. Finally the algorithm is tested for the problem how the trucking company transports parts for the automobile company.

In this study, the scope of previous logistics security were focused only on port and ship. Because of it now extends to the overall (export and import) supply chain areas and in regards with supply security programs in the international level, it reviewed supply chain security programs categorized them into 'ships and port security system', 'container screening system', 'logistics chain authorization system' which are expanded to be adopted in the international level. The major features of those programs are summarized as in building risk management system, providing information ahead, selectivity test and benefits to AEO authorized companies in the customs administration level. The government and companies which are to ensure supply chain security and trade facilitation in order to cope actively with international customs administrative atmosphere need to do the followings : First, they need to build an intra-government integrated supply chain security and make efforts to conclude AEO MRA in order to increase trade competitiveness among major trading countries. Second, they need to build supply chain risk management system in order to enhance management performance through overseas market and company level strategy to obtain and maintain AEO authorization in the company level.

A lot of efforts are inclined by concluding the Kyoto Protocol in Japan for the exhaust decreasing of the $CO_2$ gas in 1997. The Japan Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is promoting various policies through various policies such as `new synthesis logistics policy', 'green logistic partnership meeting', establishment of 'logistics efficiency law' etc. The modal shift case that the individual logistic company in Japan was promoting under such a policy was analyzed in this research, and a modal shift on the distribution site was very promoted, and applicability in our country was examined through the instruction point to this in the future.

To increase the short-circuit testing capacity of distribution transformers, testing facility has been installed for KEPCO in Vi-wang. The power supply of testing facility is directly supplied from the network substation located closely. Testing can be performed up to 300 kVA for single-phase transformers, 500 kVA for three-phase transformers. Operating with this facility, the distribution company is able to maintain the reliable supply of electricity. Also the critical quality of transformers from manufacturers can be verified by short-circuit testing. This paper describes the design concept and specification of newly developed equipment and the procedure of short-circuit test.

우리나라의 철도운송 분담율은 매년 6%를 유지하고 있으나 철도물류에 대한 지속적인 투자 및 물류 합리화 여부에 따라 철도물류는 상반된 결과를 가져올 것이다. 철도물류의 발전에 크게 기여할 것으로 예상되는 남북철도 뿐만 아니라 철도물류에 대한 연구가 상당히 미흡한 상황에서 철도 물류기지의 수요예측, 규모를 예측하고, 물류기지를 통한 남북철도 활성화 방안을 연구하고자 하였다. 철도 물류기지를 통한 남북철도의 활성화 방안으로서 첫째, 물류기지에서 취급하는 석탄 수요자와의 파트너쉽을 강화하여야 하며, 둘째, 강릉에서 제진까지 동해 북부선의 건설이 필요할 뿐만 아니라 노후화된 북측 선로의 유지보수에 필요한 재정적 지원이 이루어져야 한다. 셋째, 장·단거리 운송 및 대형 화주에 대한 철도운임을 탄력적으로 적용할 필요가 있으며, 넷째, 해외 광산개발 참여 등을 통하여 철도 운송권을 확보하여야 하고, 다섯째, 양회사와 같은 소형 화주를 지속적으로 발굴하여야 한다.

Currently, Korea is actually increasing and increasing demand for leisure such as parts for A/S of automobile parts of the car, as well as trends in borrowing and finished parts are also required a steady increase in automobile traffic daetsu. There is one car and want to be driving a car A/S parts supplier smoothly for many years and that it is often the case if it is not supplied in a timely fashion, it is a reality that many eonseong hear from customers. These symptoms can be confirmed that the logistics systems of a system of selling auto parts supplier but above all a problem for several reasons, which will be considered as areas for improvement should be done urgently. We consider a rental company that dynamically manages Its capacity level through capacity addition and return While serving customer with its own capacity, the company expands its capacity by renting items from an outside source so that it can avoid lost opportunities of rental which occur when stock is not sufficient. If stock becomes sufficiently large enough to cope with demands, the company returns expanded capacity to the outside source. Formulating the model into a Markov decision problem, we identify an optimal capacity management Policy which states when the company should expand its capacity and when it should return expanded capacity after capacity addition. Since it is intractable to analytically find the optimal capacity management policy and the optimal size of capacity expansion, we present a numerical procedure that finds these optimal values based on the value iteration method. Numerical analysis is implemented and we observe monotonic properties of the optimal performance measures by system parameters, which are meaningful in developing effective heuristic policies.
