This paper was suggested the detailed methods on the integration of Remote Sensing and GIS for various application of two functions at the one system with making the most use of respective merits rather than make use of independent systems. It developed of algorithm about simultaneous overlay of raster and vector data for remote sensing and GIS for these objects. For test application on integration of remote sensing and GIS, it used of remote sensing data of satellite and used to topographic map of the same area for vector data acquisition of GIS application. For the practical application, it proved of effective value of integration of raster and vector data by present of useful technique with multilateral approach method through data conversion about thematic application for major application fields of remote sensing and GIS and it suggested that new application technique for integrated application of remote sensing GIS through synthetic situation analysis.
Fire fuel map is one of the most critical factors for planning and managing the fire hazard and risk. However, fuel mapping is extremely difficult because fuel properties vary at spatial scales, change depending on the seasonal situations and are affected by the surrounding environment. Remote sensing has potential to reduce the uncertainty in mapping fuels and offers the best approach for improving our abilities. Especially, Hyperspectral sensor have a great potential for mapping vegetation properties because of their high spectral resolution. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the potential of mapping fuel properties using Hyperion hyperspectral remote sensing data acquired in April, 2002. Fuel properties are divided into four broad categories: 1) fuel moisture, 2) fuel green live biomass, 3) fuel condition and 4) fuel types. Fuel moisture and fuel green biomass were assessed using canopy moisture, derived from the expression of liquid water in the reflectance spectrum of plants. Fuel condition was assessed using endmember fractions from spectral mixture analysis (SMA). Fuel types were classified by fuel models based on the results of SMA. Although Hyperion imagery included a lot of sensor noise and poor performance in liquid water band, the overall results showed that Hyperion imagery have good potential for wildfire fuel mapping.
Jellyfish (cnidarian) are conspicuous in many marine ecosystems when in bloom. Despite their importance for the ecosystem structure and function, very few sampling programs are dedicated to sample jellyfish because they are patchily distributed and easily clogged plankton net. Although satellite remote sensing is an excellent observing tool for many phenomena in the ocean, their uses for monitoring jellyfish are not possible due to the coarse spatial resolutions. Hence, we developed the low altitude remote sensing platform to detect jellyfish in high resolutions, which allow us to monitor not only horizontal, but also vertical migration of them. Using low altitude remote sensing platform,we measured the jellyfish from the pier at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Chesapeake Bay. The patterns observed included discrete patches, in rows that were aligned with waves that propagated from deeper regions, and aggregation around physical objects. The corresponding areas of exposed jellyfish on the sea surface were $0.1{\times}10^4pixel^2$, $0.3{\times}10^4pixel^2$, and $2.75{\times}10^4pixel^2$, respectively. Thus, the research result suggested that the migration of the jellyfish was related to the physical forcing in the sea surface.
Cloud detection algorithm is being developed as primary one of the 16 baseline products of CMDPS (COMS Meteorological Data Processing System), which is under development for the real-time application of data will be observed from COMS Meteorological Imager. For cloud detection from satellite data, we studied two different algorithms. One is threshold technique based algorithm, which is traditionally used, and another is artificial neural network model. MPEF scene analysis algorithm is the basic idea of threshold cloud detection algorithm, and some modifications are conducted for COMS. For the neural network, we selected MLP with back-propagation algorithm. Prototype software of each algorithm was completed and evaluated by using the MTSAT-IR and GOES-9 data. Currently the software codes are standardized using Fortran90 language. For the preparation as an operational algorithm, we will setup the validation strategy and tune up the algorithm continuously. This paper shows the outline of the two cloud detection algorithms and preliminary test results of both algorithms.
Today, the development of spaceborne Earth remote sensing is characterised by the increasing number and various types of remote sensing satellites, which are being operated in the low altitude and geostationary orbits with the help of rapid development of modern space technologies. It is believed that around 15 countries have programs to own their spaceborne Earth remote sensing systems, and the number of systems will be reached to some tens until the end of 2000 years. It is expected that Korean remote sensing satellites will be launched in sequence according to the national space program. The befinits will be magnificient because of the wide range of application area. Application of remote sensing information to the social infra implies that the potential customers can access the information, mission and the characteristics of the operation, and it is necessary to be supplied more information about systems and mission areas to our domestic users for proper applications. In this review we will survey the applications of the information acquired by the systems of USA, Russia and other countries. In this review we will discussed withing general application area, missions and systems.
As the frequency of drought increases due to climate change, it is very important to have a monitoring system that can accurately determine the situation of widespread drought. However, while ground-based meteorological data has limitations in identifying all the complex droughts in Korea, satellite remote sensing data can be effectively used to identify the spatial characteristics of drought in a wide range of regions and to detect drought. This study attempted to analyze the possibility of using remote sensing data for drought identification in South Korea. In order to monitor various aspects of drought, remote sensing and ground observation data of precipitation and potential evapotranspiration, which are major variables affecting drought, were collected. The evaluation of the applicability of remote sensing data was conducted focusing on the comparison with the observation data. First, to evaluate the applicability and accuracy of remote sensing data, the correlations with observation data were analyzed, and drought indices of various aspects were calculated using precipitation and potential evapotranspiration for meteorological drought monitoring. Then, to evaluate the drought monitoring ability of remote sensing data, the drought reproducibility of the past was confirmed using the drought index. Finally, a high-resolution drought map using remote sensing data was prepared to evaluate the possibility of using remote sensing data for actual drought in South Korea. Through the application of remote sensing data, it was judged that it would be possible to identify and understand various drought conditions occurring in all regions of South Korea, including unmeasured watersheds in the future.

Change detection of remote sensing images is a profound challenge in the field of remote sensing image analysis. This paper proposes a novel change detection method for bitemporal remote sensing images based on feature fusion and fuzzy c-means (FCM). Different from the state-of-the-art methods that mainly utilize a single image feature for difference image construction, the proposed method investigates the fusion of multiple image features for the task. The subsequent problem is regarded as the difference image classification problem, where a modified fuzzy c-means approach is proposed to analyze the difference image. The proposed method has been validated on real bitemporal remote sensing data sets. Experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Recently, in the case of observing the global environment, satellite remote sensing technology has been important. It's because satellite remote sensing is valuable for assessing relatively large areas. But now, small scale remote sensing techniques are needed which can be applicable to the detail investigation of plant tree areas which afforest land after the large scale construction of roads, dams and airports. In this study, we tried to develop and propose a lower altitude sensing technique which can be used in ground remote sensing by using a CCD camera. As a result of this investigation the following can be concluded: We recognized the transference characteristics of filters which were used in comparative tests about the four ground remote sensing devices. We also found that the near-IR camera could be used for an imaging spectral radiometer in the extraction of the vegetation index. Furthermore, we found that the vegetation index has varied hour by hour during the day of the experiment. Finally, we brought about an increase phase of the NDVI in a forest fire, which caused considerable damage, by developing new ground remote sensing technology.
The periodic monitoring of crop conditions and timely estimation of crop yield are of great importance for supporting agricultural decision-makings, as well as for effectively coping with food security issues. Remote sensing has been regarded as one of effective tools for crop condition monitoring and crop type classification.
