Inclusion complex formation of octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$in aqueous solution and in the solid state was studied by the solubility method, spectroscopic (UV, FT-IR) and X-ray diffractornetry. The solid complex of octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ was obtained in molar ratio of 1:2 (guest/host). A spatial relationship between host and guest molecule was clearly reflected in the magnitude of the apparent stability constant (K') and in the stoichiometry of the inclusion complex. Furthermore, a typical type Bs phase-solubility diagram was obtained for octyldimethyl p-aminobenzoate and ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ in water at $25^{\circ}C$. The results indicated that the solubility of the guest molecule was higher by the formation of ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ inclusion complex.
The purpose of this study was to investigate advertisement effect of bus shelter, according to the congruency between advertising medium and the fashion brand image, and products. Four types of questionnaire are made through pretest. 273 female college students participated in the study. The results were as follows. First, high level of the congruency between advertising medium and the image of brands had effect on the advertisement effect. Second, there were not significant differences in the advertisement attitude and purchasing intention between clothing and cosmetics. However, clothing showed significant differences in the brand attitude than cosmetics did. Finally, interaction affects were not found in the congruency of image and product types. Chamaecyparis obtusa (Siebold & Zucc.) Endl. is an evergreen tree of the family Cupressaceae well known for its unique scents. The seed extract of this cypress tree was phytochemically investigated to isolate a novel abietane-diterpene compound (1) along with fifteen known terpenoids (2-16). All of the isolated compounds were subjected to the screening of antimicrobial activities against Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis including erythromycin resistant strains. Among the isolates, 1α-hydroxy-hinokione (1), hinokione (3), 1,2-dehydrohinokione (4) and ferruginol (9) showed significant antibacterial activities against both acne-causing strains. This study demonstrated that abietane-type diterpenoids are the main antibacterial components in C. obtusa seed extract, and some isolated compounds can be further developed as potential acne-treatment agents.
$PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ were collected at the Gosan Site on Jeju Island from 2013 to 2015, and their ionic and elemental species were analyzed to examine the variations in their chemical compositional characteristics related to different meteorological conditions. Concentrations of nss-$SO_4{^{2-}}$ and $NH_4{^+}$ were respectively 6.5 and 4.7 times higher in the fine particle mode ($PM_{2.5}$) compared to the coarse particle mode ($PM_{10-2.5}$), however $NO_3{^-}$ concentrations were 2.4 times higher in the coarse mode compared to the fine particle mode. During Asian dust days, the concentrations of nss-$Ca^{2+}$ and $NO_3{^-}$ increased to 8.2 and 5.0 times higher in $PM_{10}$, and 3.5 and 6.0 times higher in $PM_{2.5}$, respectively. During haze days, the concentrations of secondary pollutants increased by 3.1-4.7 and 3.2-7.9 in $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$, respectively, and they were, respectively, 1.2-2.1 and 0.9-2.1 times higher on mist days. The aerosols were acidified largely by sulfuric and nitric acids, and neutralized mainly by ammonia in the fine particle mode during the haze days, but neutralized by calcium carbonate in coarse particle mode during the Asian dust days. Clustered back trajectory analysis showed that concentrations of nss-$SO_4{^{2-}}$, $NO_3{^-}$, and $NH_4{^+}$ were relatively high when air masses travelled from China.
Loliolide is one of the most ubiquitous monoterpenoid compounds found in algae, and its potential therapeutic effect on various dermatological conditions via agent-induced biological functions, including anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic properties, was demonstrated. Here, we investigated the effects of loliolide on hair growth in dermal papilla (DP) cells, the main components regulating hair growth and loss conditions. For this purpose, we used a three-dimensional (3D) DP spheroid model that mimics the in vivo hair follicle system. Biochemical assays showed that low doses of loliolide increased the viability and size of 3D DP spheroids in a dose-dependent manner. This result correlated with increases in expression levels of hair growth-related autocrine factors including VEGF, IGF-1, and KGF. Immunoblotting and luciferase-reporter assays further revealed that loliolide induced AKT phosphorylation, and this effect led to stabilization of β-catenin, which plays a crucial role in the hair-inductive properties of DP cells. Further experiments showed that loliolide increased the expression levels of the DP signature genes, ALP, BMP2, VCAN, and HEY1. Furthermore, conditioned media from loliolide-treated DP spheroids significantly enhanced proliferation and the expression of hair growth regulatory genes in keratinocytes. These results suggested that loliolide could function in the hair growth inductivity of DP cells via the AKT/β-catenin signaling pathway.
