  • With the economic development in China, the utilization of silty and muddy coasts including the construction of deepwater harbors and channels are being carried out at a fast pace. In these projects, the key technology involved is sediment transport. Due to the complication of sediment problems under the actions of tidal currents and wind waves, physical experiments are necessary In addition to numerical model studies. (omitted)

  • Most soft ground in the southern and western coasts in Korea consists of very compressible alluvial deposits. Four samples in these alluvial deposite were selected to manifest the constitutive relations of consolidation. A series of tests were performed to investigate void ratio -effective stress relationand void ratio-coefficient of permeability relation on soil samples obtained at Haenam. Jindo Mankyung and Janghung permeabilities by CRS thoery were similar to directly measured data but those of indirectly computed by $C\upsilon$ shows difference. Several models about compressibility and permeability were compared with test data.

  • It was studied on the choice of potential area for red tide occurrence from oceanographic factors. Oceanographic factors of favorable marine environmental conditions for the red tide formation included warm water temperature, low salinity, high suspended solid, low phosphorus, low nitrogen. It was founded the potential areas for red tide occurrence in August 2000 by GIS conception: Yeosu~Dolsan coast, Gamak bay, Namhae coast, Marado coast, Goheung coast, Deukryang bay, respectively.

  • Some scyphomedusae were collected from the coasts of Ilgwang, Jeju Harbour, Yeosu, Yokjido Is. and Munyeodo Is. in Korea from May to Nov. 2004. They were indentified into Pelagia noctiluca Forskal, 1775 and Cyanea nozakii Kishinouye, 1891 of the order Semaeostomeae and Nemopilema nomurai Kishinouye, 1922 of the order Rhizostomeae in the class Scyphozoa. They are new to the Korean fauna.

  • A total of twenty one species of marine macro-algae were reported from 460 kms long Orissa coast in the east coast of India. Of these 9 species belongs to Chlorophyta, 2 to Phaeophyta and 10 to Rhodophyta. The low species richness compared with southern and western coasts of India was due to lack of rocky and/or coral substratum. Enteromorpha usneoides and Gelidium divaricatum were reported first from India. Enteromorpha linza, E. clathrata, Colpomenia sinuosa, Dictyota dichotoma, Catenella impudica, Compsopogon aeruginosus and Grateloupia lithophila were the new records for Orissa coast.

  • In the present paper, seven marine algae collected from the coasts of Korea are described. The two blue-green algae, Coccochloris stagnina Sprengel and Entophysalis conferta (Kuetz.) Drouet and Daily, one brown alga, Ralfsia verrucosa(Aresch.) J. Ag., and the two red algae, Enelittosiphonia hakodatensis (Yendo) Segi and Symphyocladia pennata Okamura, are recorded newly in our country. The other two blue-green algae, Anacystis dimidiata (Kuetz.) Drouet and Daily and Phormidium tenue (Meneghini) Gomont, are recorded for the first time marine water in our country.
