  • The prevalence of congenital teeth missing is about 2-10% of population and it is more common in permanent dentition than primary dentition. In the patients with congenital missing teeth symptoms such as conical tooth, prolonged retention of primary tooth, tooth attrition. and deficient alveolar bone growth can be accompanied. In this paper the results of clinical observation of the congenital teeth missing brothers and their familial history are presented.

  • As one of the developmental disturbances in shape of teeth, an accessory root may involve any teeth, but has very rare frequency in the deciduous teeth. Because it is possible to diagnose the accessory root only by use of the radiographs, it is important to detect this root early by carefully examining the radiographs. The accessory root produces several problems such as abnormal exfoliation of deciduous teeth, eruption abnormality of successive permanent teeth, infection due to residual root during tooth extraction, and incomplete pulp treatment, and therefore it is necessary to have a continuous follow check-up to prevent these problems.

  • The three child patients aged 3 to 5 years were worn by anterior space maintainer which are fixed type after missing of anterior teeth due to nursing caries, and were taken periodic follow check up. The results are : 1. At missing of anterior teeth, fixed space maintainer can be used. 2. Increased esthetic satisfaction and positive change of social behavior can be observed by these child patients. 3. Some phonations can be changed definitely after wearing the fixed space maintainer.

  • It is rare to find multiple supernumerary teeth in individuals with no other associated diseases or syndromes. 'Non-Syndrome multiple supernumerary teeth' reviewed by Yusof(1990) have more frequency of occurrence in the mandibular region. Especially, mandibular premolar region appears to be the site of predilection for no n-syndrome multiple supernumerary teeth. Also, these may develop after most permanent teeth have erupted, thus their effect upon the occlusion is limited. In this case, the patient had 20 supernumerary teeth without other associated diseases or syndromes. All of the supernumerary teeth were impacted, and thirteen of them were found in the premolar region. In the radiographic and clinical finding, other specific complication resulted from the supernumerary teeth weren't observed.

  • As one of the developmental disturbance in shape of teeth, a twinning has very rare frequency in permanent teeth. Because it is possible to diagnose the twinning by use of the radiograph, it is very important to detect this anomaly early by careful examining the radiographs. The twinning produces several orthodontic problem such as crowding, protrusion, ectopic eruption of adjacent teeth. Therefore it is necessary, in proper time, the extraction and orthodontic treatment should perform.

  • This study was to examine the developmental dental abnormalities in childhood cancer survivors. Risk factors were assessed for 125 children with radiographic data through a retrospective analysis of medical records and panoramic images. 68.0% of childhood cancer survivors exhibited at least one dental abnormality. The types of abnormalities varied depending on the age at cancer diagnosis and treatment intensity, ranging from microdontia (43.2%), to abnormal root development (39.2%) and tooth agenesis (33.6%). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated that a young age at diagnosis (under 3 years), the use of heavy metal agents, a history of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), and combination treatment of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and HSCT were associated with a significantly higher risk for overall dental abnormalities. The increased risk ratios were 6.00, 3.06, 3.22, and 7.87, respectively (p < 0.05). The results of this study will predict dental abnormality in permanent dentition according to the diagnosis age and treatment method of childhood cancer.

  • This study aimed to evaluate various factors related to cooperation levels in pediatric dentistry and determine their correlation with children's cooperation during dental treatments. This study included one hundred children and their guardians who visited the dental hospital at the Chonnam National University. Children and their guardians completed surveys regarding dental fear, dental caries experience, dental treatment experience, temperament, and guardians' dental anxiety, as well as the background characteristics of the children. Based on these data, factors associated with children's cooperation during dental treatment were investigated. Dental fear, caries experience during the primary and mixed dentition stages, and temperament traits such as shyness and negative emotionality significantly impacted children's cooperation during dental visits, with higher levels of these factors corresponding to lower cooperation. The extent of dental experience also modestly influenced children's cooperation, with higher levels of cooperation observed in children with greater dental experience. Additionally, children's dental fear was strongly correlated with guardians' dental anxiety, increasing as guardians' anxiety levels increased. Twelve-year-old children exhibited significantly lower levels of dental fear compared to other age groups, and regardless of cooperation levels, injections (shots) were identified as the primary factor inducing dental fear among the children. To improve children's cooperation in pediatric dentistry, strategies should focus on alleviating their fears and adopting an individualized approach that consider their oral health status and temperamental traits.

  • This research aimed to evaluate the outcomes of autotransplantation in both children and adolescents, with a focus on root growth, and determine the clinical and radiographic factors associated with the success rate. In this study, 73 teeth, autogenously transplanted in 63 patients, were examined over an observation period of 3.2 years on average. The mean age at the time of autotransplantation was 11.9 years. Based on the radiographic criteria, the success rate was 73.97% and the survival rate was 100%. Based on the radiographic criteria, the success rate was 73.97%, and the survival rate was 100%. A significant increase in root length was observed in the transplanted teeth with an open apex. An association was found between the success rate and use of bone graft and surgeon experience. In conclusion, greater clinical experience in autotransplantation (> 36 cases) and prohibiting the use of bone grafts may improve the prognosis of the transplanted teeth in children and adolescents.
