Purpose : This article has to compare and clarify the Korea traditional manual therapy and foreign. Methods : This is a literature study with books and books for Korea traditional manual therapy. Results : Korea traditional manual therapy is a species Koryo medicine that is prevention and treatment a disease stimulated in body one part by hand. It has included yacson, doin, sooki, massage, digital compression and chuna. And trend of manual therapy cover the whole medical in Europe, but America has two categories which is the neurologic manual therapy and the orthopedic manual therapy. Conclusion : Korea had been accepted manual therapy which was operated in foreign. This foreign manual therapy was very similar to korea. So it is necessity for a systematic and comparative study for korea traditional manual therapy.

Background: The legal and academic definitions of manual therapy in domestic and foreign countries are reviewed, and problems and improvement plan of manual therapy are established through comparative analysis of the current status and system of manual therapy in Korea and abroad. Design: Review. Methods: In this study, the development direction of manual therapy in Korea was derived by analyzing the definition, application status, and service system of domestic and foreign manual therapy. Results: Firstly, it lays the foundation for a more comprehensive national health promotion by solving problems arising from the current unclear definition of manual therapy. Secondly, the subject of manual therapy is a physiotherapist but the subject of claiming non-benefit costs is a doctor, moreover illegal manual therapy by an unqualified or non-professional who is not a physiotherapist is being carried out in the medical field. Thirdly, in order to provide quality physiotherapy services (manual therapy) under a cooperative relationship between medical staff and physiotherapists, it is appropriate that physiotherapist have a clear "prescription" or "request" by a doctor. Fourth, there is no provision for the preparation of medical records in the current Medical Technicians Act, and this causes safety accidents of patients during manual treatment. Conclusion: As described above, the current manual therapy in Korea is being performed indiscriminately without a clear interpretation, resulting in various problems. I think it is necessary to lay the foundation for institutional and legal re-establishment of manual therapy through additional research on manual therapy in the future.

Background: The purpose of this survey was to know the current states and future suggestions of orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) system on Korea. Methods: Questionnaires were directly distributed to physical therapists who participated in the training and collected at the educational or clinical site. The questionnaire was sent and collected by E-mail. Data were classified into two groups, metropolitan and city, and clinical experience was grouped into four groups. Then, 337 subjects (male: 195, female: 142) were recruited from us. Results: The states of Korea, 72.1% of therapists have been executed orthopedic manual physical therapy, the fee of one treatment was 50,000 ~ 60,000 Korean won, the time of treatment was 21~30 minutes, the number of patients of one day was under 9. The suggestion of future orthopedic manual physical therapy of Korea, 83.4% of therapist were agreed with manual physical therapy system, the education center of certificate for manual therapist was manual therapy academic group, the career of clinical experiences was 3 years, the training hours was more 300 hours, academic degree was diploma. Conclusion: In the future orthopedic manual physical therapy proposal, the environment and education system differ from country to country, but Korean OMPT agreed to an accredited orthopedic manual physical therapy system and wanted systematic management.

PURPOSE; The main purpose of this article is to document correctly of the orthopedic manual therapy's history in Korea. Therefore this study aimed not only to know the root of the historical Korean OMT, but also to develope of the Korean manual therapy advanced in future. RESULT; The results of this study were as following; 1. The first introduction for OMT in Korea is the '1st International Orthopedic Physical Therapy Seminars' at Seoul National University Hospital by Prof. Russell M. Woodman etc(Quinnipiac college, USA), 1991. 1.16-1.21. 2. The first OMT study group in Korea is to establish the 'Korean Study Group of OMT at Hallym University Kangdon Sacred Heart Hospital, 1992.2.22. 3. The first OMT journal in Korea is the 'Jr. of KAOMT(1:1)', 1995.10.10.

As one of the effective therapies for musculoskeletal diseases, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been watched with keen interest. In Korea, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been widely spread and applied in the field of clinical medicine since the mid-nineties. Since then, the clinical efficacy of orthopedic manual physical therapy has been approved, and orthopedic manual physical therapy has been gradually spread in the filed of clinical medicine. However, it should be noted that clinically available therapies are not well recognized. Therefore, this study was conducted to allude diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of these therapies including deep tissue massage, manual therapy, Cyriaxs method combining manual reduction and chemotherapy, Kaltenborn-Evjenth method based on concave-convex rule for joint and soft tissue, Maitlands method based on patients sign and symptom, stress due to the posture, intraarticualr disturbance and Mckenzies method for pain due to the dysfunction.

Purpose: Health expenditure and utilization of Korean medicine are increasing every year. Since Chuna Manual Therapy was covered by National Health Insurance in 2019, it is predicted that the usage of Chuna Manual Therapy would be also increasing. However, there are few studies about Chuna Manual Therapy using Korean National Health Insurance claims database. Therefore, we will investigate the utilization trend of outpatient's Chuna Manual Therapy using Korean National Health Insurance database and suggest political implications. Methodology: The Korean National Health Insurance claims database was used to identify outpatient's Chuna Manual Therapy usage spanning 4 years from 2019-2023 and the number of Chuna Manual Therapy claims were approximately 18.61 million. Findings: The number of Chuna Manual Therapy claims and patients, health expenditure of Chuna Manual Therapy have been increasing spanning 4 years among over 65 aged. In the case of female patients, the number of Chuna Manual Therapy claims was more than male patients and health spending related to Chuna Manual Therapy was also higher than male patients. Most patients visited Korean medicine clinics due to musculoskeletal diseases, and most claims were from rural regions. Practical Implication: Since Chuna Manual Therapy was covered by National Health Insurance in 2019, Utilization of Chuna Manual Therapy has been increased overall. In particular, Chuna Manual Therapy is mostly implemented in the elderly, Korean medicine clinics, and local areas, thus policy managers will need to consider this.

Objectives This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of manual therapy in patients with failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS). Methods We searched eight electronic databases from October 2022 and only selected randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting outcomes for manual therapy in FBSS patients. Included studies were analyzed qualitatively. Results A total of twelve RCTs were included and three studies were meta-analyzed. Manual therapy combined with exercise demonstrated more favorable outcomes in terms of pain reduction compared to exercise therapy only (P<0.01). Some studies reported that manual therapy resulted in low efficacy, while some studies reported that specific manual techniques have a significant effect in pain relief. We, therefore, conclude that several studies have a high risk of bias. Conclusions Findings suggest that manual therapy is a safe and non-invasive, promising option for managing FBSS. However, manual therapy is not the best option in all circumstances; thus, this should be selectively applied by a well-trained practitioner. Further studies such as well-designed, risk-controlled RCTs are required to gain stronger evidence.

This thesis is designed to discuss the development of the Korean Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy and establish a development strategy for the future. The development has been achieved with the enthusiasm and interest of physical therapists from all over the country over the past 10 years since the establishment and the Academy has been receiving attention from the medical part. The Korean Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy will develop a variety of training programs for the research and development of orthopedic manual therapy and will establish a development strategy and master plan for the future in order to lay a foundation for orthopedic manual therapy.

Objectives : The present study introduces the clinical application of Hamstring Chuna Manual Therapy to a patient who underwent the pain after spinal fusion. Methods : A patient who had the pain after spinal fusion was hospitalized at Bucheon Jaseng hospital of Oriental Medicine for 35 days. During the hospital treatment, the pain was relieved by Hamstring Chuna Manual Therapy. The improvement of the patient was measured by VAS(Visual Analogue Scale) score, SLR(Straight-Leg Raising) test, and walking distance. Results : The values of the patient's VAS score, SLR test, and walking distance measured before and after Hamstring Chuna Manual Therapy presented that the pain was relieved after Hamstring Chuna Manual Therapy. Conclusions : Therefore, this case demonstrates that Hamstring Chuna Manual Therapy is effective treatment method for relieving pain in the spine.
