The purpose of this study is to provide the comparative study results for the purpose of the developing continuing professional educational systems for Korean pharmacists. The professional continuing educational systems of the UK, USA, Japan and Korea were analyzed. General Pharmaceutical Council in UK controls the pharmacy professions for the protection of the health of the citizens in UK and certifies the schools of pharmacy and the continuing education providers. The USA and Japan have the several accreditation bodies for the pharmacy education and the continuing pharmaceutical education. However, the quality assurance systems in Korea for the continuing education and specialty programs are not implemented, yet. The renewal system of the pharmacist license should be introduced like the health care providers like doctors to improve professionalism. Finally, it is recommended that all of these things should be done by a single administrative authority such as Korean Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

This study is aimed at putting forward effective methods of computer education for use in schools by comparing the schools of UK and Korea. It shows : 1) a big difference in infrastructure such as H/W and Network, 2) for S/W budget UK teachers have control over their own budget, but not in Korea, 3) government, school, teacher, student, and parent all have the same mind set to promote the use of information communication technology in the UK, but in Korea the government alone drives it with its own policy. At University level, potential computer teachers in the UK are emphasized to practice fields works in schools, but in Korea, the course mainly consists of education theory and pre-teachers get only four weeks field experience. In addition, computer teachers are often those with majors in different fields, but due to the lack of interest in computer education, they are forced into these empty positions. This often leads to conflict between students and teachers because of those teachers who do not have the necessary depth in knowledge of computers.
The wave of globalisation initiated by marketisation has increasingly penetrated into all sectors across the world, accordingly, the health & hospital service sector could not be made no escapes, and it currently faces the order of more marketised competition more than ever. Traditionally, the characteristic of the hospital services in the UK has considered as a model of social provision by government. However, contrary to our knowledge, the sphere of the hospital service in the UK has already been immersed in by the marketisation, in which the private actors have been embedded in order to tweak the activities of the hospital service with in the European Union. As the methodology of this research, the qualitative analysis, namely the interview with some doctors in Surgery, NHS Trusts staffs and relevant specialists in has been performed on April to May, 2003. And on the other hand, the various documents related to its service have been analysed. Thus, this paper will review the characteristics of the health service sector in the UK. In doing so, it will illuminate what would be the structural factors derived from its existing system, as a result, it will shed light on how the UK government makes an effort to resolve the problematic situation by reviewing the policy direction of Foundation Hospital proposed recently. In the next stage, it will analyse how all elements consist of the hospital management in the UK has been adjusted and be likely to be changed within Europe. More specifically focuses on how the private hospital service has been managed and related with the activities of its public hospital service-NHS Trusts. Also, under the circumstance, what private health insurance companies function will be studied. In conclusion, it will be concluded that what will be the implication of Korean hospital service market so as to correspond to globally open market by WTO. Now the UK health service system has faced a turning point of becoming more health care market internally and externally pressed by global and regional factors. Thus it is meaningful to scrutinize how a key part of social provision in the health care market system tends to adjust to globally marketised regulation.
Pharmacy education and training is continuously evolving to meet the requirement from the society in the UK. Most pharmacy schools offer the Master of pharmacy degree which is a four year undergraduate programme followed by a year of pre-registration placement spanning a year supervised by a professional pharmacist who has at least 3 years' post-registration experience; however, some universities provide either a 5-year sandwich course where the pre-registration training is split up into two periods of 6 months or a 2-year OSPAP programme for those who are already qualified as a pharmacist outside of the UK. The GPhC has announced that the format of the registration assessment is set to change in 2016. The exam questions from 2016 will be more clinical, practical and based around a patient in a real-life scenario. This article addresses important aspects of UK pharmacy education such as university curriculum, training programme, and licence exam, therefore, could potentially offer a significant contribution to the debate about raising academic standards of pharmacy education in South Korea.
Following the recent privatization of the UK railway system there has been an increase in the volume of rail freight. It. Influential factors include the problem of road congestion, and policies towards increasing grants. With a focus on grants (government subsidies), this paper examines changes in rail freight, and the tasks facing the UK railway. I attempt to explain recent trends in rail freight grants and changes that have positively influenced the rail freight. In particular, I demonstrate the trends in rail freight and scheme which link the government and industry. Moreover, I explain the grants scheme and method of calculation, concisely. Finally I reveal the characteristics of UK rail grants scheme. In this paper, I argue that grants have played an important role of in the development of freight and that rail freight is more environment friendly than road transport. This paper have a many important aspects. Namely, an account of the introduction of the grant scheme of UK. Also, I explore the method of calculation of these grants. It will give some lessons for Korea rail. In conclusion, I note some suggestions and those problems which impede the freight transport. In future, the problems of some of these problems should be addressed, For example, the lack of infrastructure and development of an adequate train time schedule in case of rail freight have to be improved.

Despite the dominance of the USD as a vehicle currency in non-US trade, most studies on the exchange rate-trade balance relationship ignore its importance. Some recent J-curve papers have proved that incorporating the role of USD as vehicle currency as a crucial determinant of trade balance can well reflect the reality of global trade and provide more detailed findings. Motivated by this new approach and by the fact that USD is substantially used in the trade between China and the EU and the UK, this paper scrutinizes how the vehicle currency USD and the bilateral exchange rates asymmetrically affect China's trade balance with each EU country and the UK. The results of NARDL estimation indicate that the USD models outperform the bilateral exchange rate (BER) models in terms of detecting significant long-run and short-run coefficients, which confirms the usefulness of the new approach. Also, this paper finds that the USD/CNY exchange rate cannot be neglected in China's trade with the EU and the UK, which can supplement China's policies on international trade and foreign exchange management.
This study analyzed the curricula of fashion related majors at 4-year colleges in the USA, UK, Japan and Hong Kong as well as in Korea and compared the characteristics of the Korean curriculum with those of the four countries. A total of 124 curricula from 103 colleges were collected. Courses were divided into eight categories (including industry and market information; materials; merchandise planning; design; production; distribution and selling; basics; and consumption) representing the production and distribution process of fashion business. There were differences in course offerings among the five countries. Overall, curricula in Korea emphasized design and production (construction) areas and showed not much differentiation among colleges. While industry and market information, merchandise planning, and production (management) areas were emphasized in the USA , differentiation/specialization by major was observed . UK and Hong Kong had well-specialized curricula by major Japan seemed to offer traditional and consumption oriented courses. Based on the findings, some propositions for the Korean fashion curriculum were discussed.
The purpose of this work was to examine the antimicrobial activity derived from the lactic acid bacterium, UK-3 isolated from the vaginas of women of childbearing age. Various physiological and biochemical properties of this strain were characterized. Both the BIOLOG system and phylogenetic analysis using 16S rRNA sequencing were utilized for identification, and the strain was designated as Lactobacillus plantarum UK-3, and registered in GenBank as [JK266589]. Growth rate, production of organic acids (e.g., lactic acid and acetic acid), and pH during growth were monitored. The maximum concentrations of lactic acid and acetic acid were approximately 684.11 mM and 174.26 mM, respectively, and pH changed from 7.0 to 3.7 after 72 h of incubation. High performance liquid chromatography was used to confirm lactic acid and acetic acid production. Significant antimicrobial activity of the concentrated supernatant was demonstrated against various Gram-positive (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, Neisseria species., Listeria monocytogenes), Gram-negative bacteria (e.g., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis), and yeast (e.g., Candida albicans) by the plate diffusion method. As a result, the concentrated L. plantarum UK-3 cultures had lower acidity and inhibited the growth of all microorganisms tested, whereas the growth of L. acidophilus was not affected.
The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 in the United Kingdom provides a comprehensive definition of "Emergency", calling upon the Uk's emergency management to deal with any disaster risk regardless of cause or source. Old contingency plans for civil defense and peacetime emergencies have been integrated into current integrated emergency management. In the UK, emergencies are managed by emergency services and other responders at the local level without direct involvement of central government. On top of this, a classified assessment of the risks of civil emergencies is also conducted on a regular basis, not only at the local level but also at the national level. This research looks into the Uk's emergency management system, including recent changes, and its risk assessment systems. Finally, the research draws policy implications for the development of Korea's disaster management mechanism as follows: 1) Korea should adopt an integrated emergency management system and combine civil defense with peacetime emergency planning, 2) it should create inter-operability between emergency responding organizations such as police, fire and ambulance, and finally 3) it must develop risk evaluating tools, such as a Community Risk Register and National Risk Register, both at the local and the national level. Last but not least, the UK emergency management system cannot be directly lifted from the UK and applied to risks and hazards faced by South Korea. Therefore, cross-cultural synthesis of many national approaches to emergency management is further required particularly for customizing policy to the particular needs of Korea.
