  • This paper focuses on proactive personality as one of the main personality traits relevant to knowledge sharing and examines how this personal trait influences knowledge sharing behavior. Moreover, in order to consider the interactive effect between proactive personality and a contextual factor, this study utilized the construct of LMXSC which can reveal restoration of resource losses due to knowledge sharing. Because LMXSC can have opposite directions depending on used theories, this study investigates how LMXSC moderates the relationship between proactive personality and knowledge sharing behavior by using conservation of resources theory and trait activation theory. This study tests hypotheses with the data of supervisor-employee dyads in various industries. An empirical results showed that proactive personality increased knowledge sharing behavior and LMXSC strengthened the positive relationship between proactive personality and knowledge sharing behavior as conservation of resources theory predicts. Based on these theoretical arguments and empirical findings, this study suggests theoretical and practical implications, limitations, and the directions of future research.

  • Recently, several attempts have been made to introduce the process concept to knowledge management (KM) or the knowledge concept to business process management (BPM) in order to combine the advantages of the two approaches. However, clear description about their interrelationship or a comprehensive framework to combine them has not been provided. This paper explores how KM and BPM can complement each other and proposes a framework to integrate the two paradigms. The concept of process knowledge proposed by this paper focuses on the importance of business processes as knowledge, which is overlooked by existing KM or BPM research efforts. The paper proposes a framework that combines and extends the functionalities of existing knowledge management systems (KMSs) and business process management systems (BPMSs) by identifying the functionalities required to manage process knowledge from the lifecycle perspective of both knowledge management and business process management. A prototype system is also presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed framework.

Knowledge management strategies can be categorized as being codification- and personalization-oriented. Task characteristics are analyzed from the perspective of content-oriented, process-oriented, number of exceptions, and analyzability. These results illustrate how companies should align the knowledge management strategies with task characteristics. It is found that codification strategy is more likely to be associated with high content-oriented and high analyzability task, and personalization strategy is with high process-oriented task. The survey result confirms that managers should adjust knowledge management strategies in view of the characteristics of the task.

  • As many companies have recognized the importance of Knowledge Management(KM), they have invested lots of their resources in developing and deploying Knowledge Management Systems(KMS) to organize and share knowledge. When they implemented KMS in their organizations, most of them had high expectations about KMS at tile beginning. However, as time passed, its usage was rapidly declined. There have been many attempts to increase its usage. Many research works have tried to find solutions from users and organizations viewpoints, instead of the actual usage data itself. In order to assess the usage level of KMS, they have normally utilized user's attitudes toward KMS by assuming that user attitudes have strong relationship with actual uses of KMS. The purpose of this study is to assess tile impacts of user, organizational, and job characteristics on the satisfaction and the usage levels of KMS. Unlike other studies, this study is to explore impact factors which affect the usage level of KMS in organizations by using actual KMS log data as well as user's attitudes.
