Implementing the Model of Ontology-Based Knowledge Repository for Integrating Financial Firm's Implicit and Explicit Knowledge (은행의 암묵적 지식과 형식적 지식의 통합관리를 위한 온톨로지기반 지식 리포지토리 모형 개발 연구)

  • Many Korean financial firms have built knowledge management systems, however, most of the systems have fragmentary ideas or suggestions. This study proposes the model of ontology-based knowledge repository through which one could integrate knowledge for business use in the BPM environments. The knowledge includes implicit and explicit knowledge. library materials, documents, and information for experts as well. In order to get basic ideas for this model, case studies utilized interviews and surveys were conducted targeting at four Korean banks' knowledge managers, librarians and thirty staffs.

  • This paper proposes a synergism of neural networks (NN) and knowledge-based decision support system (KBDSS) to effectively design an intelligent strategic planning system. Since conventional KBDSS becomes inoperative partially or totally when problem deviates slightly from the expected problem-domain, a new DSS concept is needed for designing an effective strategic planning system, where strategic planning environment is usually turbulent and consistently changing. In line with this idea, this paper developes a NN-based DSS, named ConDSS, incorporating the generalization property of NN into its knowledge base. The proposed ConDSS was extensively operated in an experimentally designed environment with three models: BCG matrix, Growth/Gain matrix, and GE matrix. The results proved very promising when encountered with unforeseen situations in comparisons with conventional KBDSS.

  • The main goal of e-learning systems is just-in-time knowledge acquisition. Rule-based e-learning systems, however, suffer from the mesa effect and the cold start problem, which both result in low user acceptance. E-learning systems suffer a further drawback in rendering the implementation of a natural interface in humanoids difficult. To address these concerns, even exceptional questions of the learner must be answerable. This paper aims to propose a method that can understand the learner's verbal cues and then intelligently explore additional domains of knowledge based on crowd data sources such as Wikipedia and social media, ultimately allowing for better answers in real-time. A prototype system was implemented using the NAO platform.

  • The synthesis of gates of injection-molded parts has been done empirically, since it requires profound knowledge about the gate design,. which is not available to designers through current CAD systems. GATEWAY is a knowledge module which contains knowledge to Permit non-experts as well as mold design experts to generate acceptable gate design of injection-molded parts. A knowledge-based CAD system is constructed by adding the knowledge module, GATEWAY, for gate synthesis and appropriate CAE programs for mold design analysis to an existing geometric modeler to provide designers, at the initial stage, with comprehensive process knowledge for gate synthesis.   • We developed Intelligent Product Search Agent based on SWRL, and this agent can search product information with knowledge(facts and rules) on the web, implement price comparison for searched products considering delivery rates. Existing keyword based product search engines is poor at searching intent products though a user has already prefect knowledge about intent produces. Furthermore if a user has insufficient knowledge, it is impossible to implement search. Also, existing price comparison shopping mall gives users comparison service considering total price(product prices, taxes, delivery rates), this service is valid to single product and has limitations of system expansion and up-dating because of not rule base but programming base. If there is appropriate knowledge on the Semantic web and this makes product information retrieval possible, above problems can be solved clearly. In this research, we developed Intelligent Product Search Agent based on SWRL that can search product information efficiently by making agent to handle facts and rules by itself.

  • An efficient operational strategy using expert system for metro water supply systems in case of emergency situations is developed in this study. The emergency situations of the water supply systems are classified into three categories : pipeline system accident, machinery and electric facility accident and water quality accident. A PC-based expert system is developed using CLIPS for Seoul metro water supply system, Phase 1 & 2 system and Phase 3 & 4 system. Broad professional knowledges and experiences from the experts in the water supply systems have been collected systematically to construct the knowledge base. Decision-making in case of an emergency is based upon the professional knowledge so that a rational and efficient operational management can be available even in the absence of experienced expert. Especially the expert model developed in this study also provides a guide for pumping operation in case of pipeline accident to confirm that the proper pressure to all nodes in the system is supplied. The pipe network simulator KYPIPE has been consecutively executed by trial and error fashion for each pipeline in the system. The results from KYPIPE were included in the knowledge base to supplement the knowledge of the field engineers.

  • Recently, Decision Support Systems (DSS) research has seen a more to combine Artificial Intelligence (AI) including neural network techniques with traditional DSS concepts and technologies to build an intelligent DSS or a knowledge-based DSS. This article proposes a Management Evaluation and its Support System (MESS) as a knowledge-based DSS. The management evaluation of a firm means the performance of all managerial operations is appraised by considering the situations of the firm. A neural network is used to represent the management evaluation structure as a suitable means of management knowledge representation. Finally a case study in a telecommunication corporation is presented.

  • Increasing competitive pressure, the constantly accelerating transformation of the economy, and a stronger focus on value creation have initiated the search for sustainable sources of competitive advantage in organizations. In this context, the concept of treating organizational knowledge as a valuable strategic resource has become quite popular recently. Knowledge has become the most critical component in the struggle for sustained competitive advantage and knowledge management (KM) has also been described for its possible role in creating sustainable competitive advantage. In order to examine the contingency between KM resources, KM strategies, and KM performance of organizations, a contingency model of KM, which is based on resource-based theory as well as knowledge-based theory, is developed from the information systems and strategic management literature in order to assess the following questions: (i) What KM resources affect the organization's KM strategies? (ii) Is there a relationship between KM strategies and organizational performance enhanced by KM? A detailed exploratory analysis of survey responses from 79 Korean companies provides the following significant findings: (i) This study found support for the proposed contingency model of KM; (ii) The organization's KM strategies are determined by social resources and its capabilities; (iii) An organization with a culture-based KM strategy is more likely to enhance organizational KM performance than an organization with a technology-based KM strategy.

  • This study aims to explore the developing strategies of knowledge based industry in ChunChon Area. This study suggests several strategies for promoting local development in Chunchon Area as follows ; first, building of local innovation system in chunchon area and convergence and diffusion of knowledge based industries. second, making of industrial environment suitable to developing knowledge based industries. third, the establishment of overall industrial supporting systems. fourth, expansion of industrial infra and prevention of the brain drain. fifth, transformation of industrial complex into innovation clusters. The result of this study will be useful for the chief executives officers to make more rational decision making for industrial developing strategies is related to the Knowledge based Industries. The paper also strives to provoke debate in this area with to encouraging further research on the topic.

Fault diagnosis based on likelihood decomposition

  • A novel fault diagnosis method based on likelihood decomposition is proposed for linear stochastic systems described by autoregressive (AR) model. Assuming that at some time instant .tau. the fault of one of the following two types is occurs: innovation fault (actuator fault); and observation fault (sensor fault), the log-likelihood function is decomposed into two components based on the observations before and after .tau., respectively, Then, the type of the fault is determined by comparing the log-likelihoods corresponding two types of faults. Numerical examples demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed diagnosis method.
