High-tech industries in Taiwan exist in an environment with diverse product requirements and intense cost reduction and information integration stress. They must develop new operational directions to increase industry competitiveness. Therefore, Taiwan's high-tech industries must continue R&D and creativity, establish knowledge sharing mechanisms and improve new product development (NPD) performance. This research analyzed and explored the influences of knowledge management (KM) and knowledge sharing mechanisms introduced by Taiwan's high-tech industries on new product development performance. The relationship between knowledge management capabilities and NPD performance is studied. This research considers the intervening industry and corporate position variables. Taiwan's high-tech industries have gradually entered the era of IT region integration and application with competitive advantage creation based upon core techniques. The in-depth study of knowledge management and knowledge sharing introduced by the high-tech industry revealed double meanings in academic and practical applications. The research results showed the following: (1) the stronger the knowledge management capabilities of Taiwan's high-tech industries, the more significant the NPD performance. (2) The better the knowledge sharing mechanism in Taiwan's high-tech industries, the more significant the NPD performance. (3) Corporate scale is not necessarily the critical factor in NPD success and the influence of corporate scale on NPD performance did not show significant differences. (4) The stronger the degree of leading corporate techniques, the more significant the NPD performance.

This study deals with the knowledge acquisition activities along the growth stages of Korean ventures. This issue is very important in the three reasons. First, the target of the study-new ventures- is a pending issue and can be regarded as the engine of innovation in the Korean economy. Second, venture activities is so dynamic compared to those of the established companies and the study reflects its dynamic features. Third, the knowledge is becoming more important one among various resources, and knowledge management can be a timely issue. The main research questions are as follows : - How does the degree of knowledge domain, vary along the growth stages\ulcorner - Which knowledge domains are more influential on the performance along growth stages\ulcorner Major findings of the study are as follow: First, technological knowledge acquisition effort are most intensive at the start-up stage, while the management knowledge efforts are active at the growth stage. The degree of market knowledge acquisition efforts is almost the same along the stages. Second, the important knowledge domain, which influences on the performance, varies along the stages. The acquisition effort for product technology knowledge is more influential on the sales growth rate and has a negative effect on the return on assets at the start-up stage, while the management knowledge about administration is more influential on the return on assets at the growth stage. Finally the academic contributions and managerial implications of the study are presented and the future research directions are also suggested.
Purpose: This empirical study is focused on the relationship between innovation capability (R&D and Human Resource innovation) and performance in knowledge-based service firms. Methods: We build research model to test how each of innovation capability on technology and human resource is influenced on their financial and non-financial performance in the knowledge-based service industries. Based on the previous research, we hypothesized the factors are regarded innovation capabilities of the firms as the scale of R&D and human resources. Because this study is especially targeted to the performance of knowledge-based service firms. With the survey on 424 main knowledge-based service firms, the multi-regression analysis was performed. Results: The result showed that the scale of R&D and human resources capabilities are main factors for knowledge-based service firms' performance, which reflects the current industrial structure. Conclusion: This study empirically demonstrated that human resources are most important to the growth of knowledge-based service firms.
This research examined the mediation effects of knowledge absorptive capacity (KAC) and knowledge management capability (KMC), between information communication technology (ICT) implementation and firm performance. In the past, studies investigated KAC and KMC separately. While studies of KAC focus on the flow of information, those of KMC focus on knowledge creation triggered by innovative information. However, KAC and KMC are not mutually exclusive and as such we investigated them together in this research. We surveyed 126 companies and analyzed hypotheses with LISREL analysis. This research provided empirical support for the Nonaka's contention that the information processing has a positive effect on knowledge creation. We also found that there is a mediation effect between ICT implementation and firm performance. Not only is there a direct effect of ICT implementation on firm performance, but there is an indirect effect through KAC and KMC. KAC has a positive effect on both KMC and firm performance. However, it has been discovered that while KMC has mediation effect, it is not significant as an independent factor for firm performance.
Most countries recognize traditional knowledge as an economical resource in recent years, and so are actively participating in WIPO discussions for making sure of their intellectual property rights. In this study, the definition of traditional knowledge was discussed for making clear its categories and relative subjects. A tool for Korean Traditional Knowledge Resource Classification(KTKRC) was developed for putting the data of the resources in order, and was indispensable for searching for and examining cultural artifacts within the system of international intellectual property rights. KTKRC covers comprehensively our various traditional knowledge resources and has a similar structure to IPC for international searching, examining, and information exchange. KTKRC consists of a section of traditional knowledge(A), and three subsections: production technology(A0), living technology(A2) and creative technology(A4). The subsections include 8 classes, 28 subclasses, 105 groups, and a great number of subgroups.

Purpose: This study is to identify the effect of organizational characteristics on knowledge sharing in a general hospital nurses. Method: The objects of this study were 358 nurses who had worked in a general Hospital. Data were collected from May, 3rd to May, 10th in 2004 through questionnaire. Five structured Instruments were used to collect the data. Result: The knowledge sharing of nurses was the positive correlation with openness of communication, learning orientation, the support of director of nursing department, and application of information technology(r=.431${\sim}$.611, p=.000). The degree of nurse's knowledge sharing showed a significant difference according to nurses' education level, duration of working, duty shift, working field, position in Hospital(p=.05). Openness of communication appeared into a most important predictor in knowledge sharing of Nurses, and then was learning orientation, the support of director of nursing department, application of information technology in order(p=.000). All of these variables explained 55.1% of knowledge sharing of nurses. Conclusion: To increase knowledge sharing of nurses, nursing organization will have to make up organization culture of opening communication and learning orientation of nurse, promote up the support of director of nursing department and application of information technology.

E-cash has its merits comparing with other payment modes. However, there are two problems, which are how to achieve practical/complete tracing and how to achieve it in compact E-cash. First, the bank and the TTP (i.e., trusted third party) have different duties and powers in the reality. Therefore, double-spending tracing is bank's task, while unconditional tracing is TTP's task. In addition, it is desirable to provide lost-coin tracing before they are spent by anyone else. Second, compact E-cash is an efficient scheme, but tracing the coins from double-spender without TTP results in poor efficiency. To solve the problems, we present a compact E-cash scheme. For this purpose, we design an embedded structure of knowledge proof based on a new pseudorandom function and improve the computation complexity from O(k) to O(1). Double-spending tracing needs leaking dishonest users' secret knowledge, but preserving the anonymity of honest users needs zero-knowledge property, and our special knowledge proof achieves it with complete proofs. Moreover, the design is also useful for other applications, where both keeping zero-knowledge and leaking information are necessary.
Although the mathematics education process in AI education is a very important issue, little cases are reported in developing effective methods on AI and mathematics education at the university level. The universities cover all fields of mathematics in their curriculums, but they lack in connecting and applying the math knowledge to AI in an efficient manner. Students are hardly interested in taking many math courses and it gets worse for the students in humanities, social sciences and arts. But university education is very slow in adapting to rapidly changing new technologies in the real world. AI is a technology that is changing the paradigm of the century, so every one should be familiar with this technology but it requires fundamental math knowledge. It is not fair for the students to study all math subjects and ride on the AI train. We recognize that three key elements, SW knowledge, mathematical knowledge, and domain knowledge, are required in applying AI technology to the real world problems. This study proposes a modular approach of studying mathematics knowledge while connecting the math to different domain problems using AI techniques. We also show a modular curriculum that is developed for using math for AI-driven autonomous driving.

As various types of information technology systems are becoming more pervasive than ever, many studies have evaluated the systems from the user perspective. Some of them have used surveys to measure consumers' cognitive responses to the target technology. However, this method may cause problems if the survey participants do not have a useful frame of reference for evaluating an unfamiliar system. To examine this issue, the current study empirically tested the effect of personal product knowledge on the predictability of a behavioral model, such as Technology Acceptance Model. A series of measurement invariance tests as well as multi-group comparison tests were conducted for rigorous examination of the data. Our analysis showed that the variance of attitude that is explained by the two believes (perceived usefulness and ease of use) was relatively small when the survey respondents had lower amount of product knowledge. Moreover, the group had weaker causal relationship between attitude and intention to use the technology, hindering the predictability of the research model. The results indicated that respondents should have a certain amount of knowledge of the target system in order to form accurate beliefs and behavioral decisions. The findings of this study provide important implications on sampling strategies for researchers with new technology.
Since the introduction of knowledge management systems, many studies have attempted to analyze its performance and identify the success factors. However, few studies have investigated the relationship between KMS technology characteristics and its quality. This paper attempts to categorize KMS technology functions into socialization, externalization, combination and internalization and then find the relationship between these functions and KMS quality. It also attempts to investigate the moderating effect of task characteristics in this relationship. Our research frame is derived from the well known task-technology fit model and the related KMS performance studies. A survey was conducted from 157 KMS users. It is found that both externalization and combination are important for KMS quality and this quality influences the KMS performance. Furthermore, it is confirmed that the task characteristics can moderate between the KMS technology and its quality.
