  • We consider the Steiner tree packing problem. For a given undirected graph G =(V, E) with positive integer capacities and non-negative weights on its edges, and a list of node sets(nets), the problem is to find a connection of nets which satisfies the edge capacity limits and minimizes the total weights. We focus on the switchbox routing problem in knock-knee model and formulate this problem as an integer programming using Steiner tree variables. The model contains exponential number of variables, but the problem can be solved using a polynomial time column generation procedure. We test the algorithm on some standard test instances and compare the performances with the results using cutting plane approach. Computational results show that our algorithm is competitive to the cutting plane algorithm presented by Grotschel et al. and can be used to solve practically sized problems.

  • Pseudomonas putida JM37 metabolized glyoxylate at a specific rate of 55 g/g dry biomass/day. In order to investigate their role, three genes encoding enzymes that are potentially involved in the conversion of glyoxylate were disrupted; namely, tartronate semialdehyde synthase (gcl), malate synthase (glcB), and isocitrate lyase (aceA). Strains with transposon insertion in either of these genes were isolated from a 50,000 clone library employing a PCR-guided enrichment strategy. In addition, all three double mutants were constructed via targeted insertion of a knock-out plasmid. Neither mutation of gcl, glcB, and aceA nor any of the respective double mutations influenced glyoxylic acid conversion, indicating that P. putida JM37 may possess other enzymes and pathways for glyoxylate metabolism.

  • Cycle-to-cycle variation has long been recognized as limiting the range of operating conditions of spark ignition engines, in particular, under lean and highly diluted operation conditions. At a part load, some of the cycles tend to knock, while others may have incomplete combustion by the time the exhaust valve opens. An experimental study has been performed in order to evaluate the relative contribution of several relevant parameters on the cyclic variability in spark ignition engines. In general, the stability of engine operation is improved with fuel injector according to the optimal injection timing, but the stability of engine operation at idle is not improved compared with a practical gasoline engine. In this study, we investigated the relationship of the effect of operating conditions for the stability at low speed and load.

  • Modernity which is superficial phenomenon set off the mass scale for mass consumption and provide uniformly artificial environment. But natural destruction, environment pollution, resources exhaustion and so on has been caused by this and now ecology is threatened by destruction and damage beyond the limitation and human beings survival is even threatened. Accordingly furniture development for environment preservation considered environment problem is the urgent real situation. Recent paradigm is the concept of Eco-design which is the green design possible to live together in symbiosis, and new types of alternative furniture are needed in Korea as well. 'Furniture for disassembly' is presented as new method for alternative furniture.

  • Recently, multifunctional nanomaterials have been developed as nanotherapeutic agents for cellular imaging and targeted cancer treatment because of their ease of synthesis and low cytotoxicity. In this study, we developed a multifunctional, two-component nanorod consisting of gold (Au) and nickel (Ni) blocks that enables dual-fluorescence imaging and the targeted delivery of small interfering RNA (siRNA) to improve cancer treatment. Fluorescein isothiocyanate-labeled luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) peptides were attached to the surface of a Ni block via a histidine-tagged LHRH interaction to specifically bind to a breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. The Au block was modified with TAMRA-labeled thiolated siRNA in order to knock down the vascular endothelial growth factor protein to inhibit cancer growth. These two-component nanorods actively targeted and internalized into MCF-7 cells to induce apoptosis through RNA interference. This study demonstrates the feasibility of using two-component nanorods as a potential theranostic in breast cancer treatment, with capabilities in dual imaging and targeted gene delivery.

  • End-gas temperatures were measured using CARS technique in a conventional DOHC spark-ignition engine fueled with PRF80. The measured pressure data were analyzed using band pass filter method. The measured CARS temperatures were compared with adiabatic core temperatures calculated from measured pressure. Significant heating by pre-flame reaction in the end gas was observed in the late part of compression stroke under both knocking and non-knocking condition. CARS temperatures measured at 10 crank angle degree before knock occurrence was higher than adiabatic core temperatures. These results indicate that there exist some exothermic reactions in low pressure and temperature region. CARS temperatures began to be higher than the adiabatic core temperature when the end-gas temperatures reached 700 K. The temperature elevation due to the pre-flame reaction correlated better with CARS temperature than with cylinder pressure.

  • Prolyl 4 hydroxylases (P4H) are iron- and 2-oxoglutamate-dependent dioxygenase enzymes and hypoxia-inducible transcription factor (HIF)-P4Hs play a critical role in the regulating oxygen homeostasis in the local tissues as well in the systemic circulation. Over a period of time, a number of prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors and activators have been developed. By employing the pharmacological tools and transgenic knock out animals, the critical role of these enzymes has been established in the pathophysiology of number of diseases including myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, stroke, neurodegeneration, inflammatory disease, respiratory diseases, retinopathy and others. The present review discusses the different aspects of these enzymes including their pathophysiological role in disease development.

  • Fast burning achieves higher efficiency, and reduces cycle variations which is able to improve vehicle driveability. Furthermore, the greater resistance to knock with fast burning can allow the fuel economy advantages associated with higher compression ratio to be realized. One way of increasing the combustion speed is to enhance the performance of ignition systems which were able to reduce the early period of combustion. It is well known that shortening the initial stage of combustion also reduces the cyclic variations. This literature survey deals with the papers which have studied the ignition process or various ignition systems. Those systems increasing the combustion speed, extending the lean misfire limit, reducing the exhaust gas and stabilizing the operating condition of the spark ignition engine by modifying the ignition process or increasing ignition energy.

  • In this study, the effects of pH, temperature, IPTG concentration and substrate (MSG) concentration on gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) production in engineered Escherichia coli were investigated. Glutamate decarboxylase and glutamate/GABA antiporter were overexpressed in GABA aminotransferase knock-out strain for GABA production. The result of optimization study showed the GABA bioconversion was optimized at pH 3.5, $30^{\circ}C$, 0.5 mM IPTG, 10 g/L MSG. At this condition, 5.23 g/L of final GABA concentration of was achieved from 10 g/L of MSG, which corresponded to a GABA yield of 85.77%.
