The Roof Canopy for Seoul World Cup Stadium (서울월드컵경기장 지붕구조물 설계와 시공)

  • This paper summarizes the design and construction of the roof canopy structure for the SEOUL 2002 World Cup Main Stadium with a design inspired by Korean traditional beauty emphasizing images of the Pangpae kite. The stadium has also been designed for maximization of its post-World Cup utility to be used on as every basis by the citizens. The stadium canopy is a unique spatial network of truss members with a tensile membrane roof suspended from 16 masts. The canopy covers 40,950 ㎡. which is clad with a pre-stressed tensile membrane of PTFE coated fiberglass fabric and the glass.

  • 쌍끌이 중층망은 대형으로 양망시 네트드럼으로 양망해야 하므로 드럼용량이 커야하고, 드럼에 감긴 그물을 투망 할 때에 뜸에 그물코가 얽혀서 파망이나 안전사고를 유발하기도 한다. 또한, 망구 깊이를 주로 끌줄길이와 예망속도로서 제어하고 있으나, 어구저항이 커서 속도의 조절에 한계가 있다. 중층망의 이러한 결점을 보완하기 위하여 최근에는 뜸 대신 카이트(kite)의 사용에 대한 연구(권, 1995)가 있고, 유럽에서는 뜸 없는 무부자(無浮子) 어구를 개발하여 어구저항의 획기적인 감소를 도모하고 있다. (중략)

VARIOUS CENTROIDS OF QUADRILATERALS WITHOUT SYMMETRY

  • For a quadrilateral P, we consider the centroid G0 of the vertices of P, the perimeter centroid G1 of the edges of P and the centroid G2 of the interior of P, respectively. It is well known that P satisfies G0 = G1 or G0 = G2 if and only if it is a parallelogram. In this paper, we investigate various quadrilaterals satisfying G1 = G2. As a result, we establish some characterization theorems. One of them asserts the existence of convex quadrilaterals satisfying G1 = G2 without symmetry.

  • This study surveys children's costumes and games from the 11 Genre paintings by Junkeun Kim in the book "Korean Games(Stewart Culin 1858-1929)". The character of the general dress-costumes, games and the culture of life from the late $19^{th}$ century in genre painting of Junkeun Kim are as follows. The study results on the games are as follow. The boy's games are kite-flying, spinning tops, playing shuttlecock with the feet, blindman's buff, yut("Four-Stick Game"). Girl's games are seesaw with board, blindman's buff, marbles. Combined games are mount shoulder, sledge, tightrope walking for men with boy. The strengthen one's body type were seesaw with board, tightrope walking, the compete score type were playing shuttlecock with the feet, marbles and the multi complex type were yut("Four-Stick Game"), kite-flying. Through genre painting in the $19^{th}$ century we know a boy's 'Jeogori 'and 'Ba-ji' were similar to a modern man's and boy's 'Hanbok' with a traditional method of wearing. We believe that the originality of a traditional costume was an unchangeable characteristic. Girl's 'Jeogori' and 'Chi-ma' changed in length and width, and method of wearing; however, the basic shape did not change. The analysis for artist's genre painting which was ordered by a foreigner and the late of $19^{th}$ century's children's costume and game of life culture is useful to match the counters and show how to wear a modern Korean costume used to understand the 'Hanbok' and establish a costume of life.

  • A total of 527 species of birds have been recorded in Korea. We summarize the records of three genera and six species that have been newly reported in Korea, discovered through the avian monitoring programs carried out by The National Institute of Biological Resources from 2013 to 2016. These six newly recorded species are; Ring-necked Duck (Aythya collaris), Lesser Scaup (Aythya affinis), Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola), Black-winged Kite (Elanus caeruleus), Mongolian Lark (Melanocorypha mongolica) and Crested Myna (Acridotheres cristatellus). One Ring-necked Duck was observed on March 23, 2014 in Jungrangcheon Stream. One male Lesser Scaup was recorded on February 24, 2014 in Gyeongpoho Lagoon. A male bufflehead was first seen in Yeongrangho Lagoon on January 26, 2013. The Black-winged Kite was first observed on January 23, 2013 at the Gangseo Wetland Ecological Park. One Mongolian Lark was also recorded on May 11, 2016 and May 12, 2017 in Marado Island. The Crested Myna was first observed on April 20, 2016 in Seomando, Island.

Examination and Utility Analysis about SkySails System Application in the Coastal Waters (국내연안에서의 SkySails 시스템 활용에 대한 검토와 효용분석)

  • Many shipping companies have suffered about high oil cost and environment regulation as people are concerned about the environment, therefore concentrating on energy using efficiency of the ship. The Skysails Company of Germany developed Skysails System for 4 years, making Shipping Company take interest under such situation. Skysails System uses a large kite in the ship, decreasing fuel expenses. So examination and utility analysis on Skysails System application are a necessity by using weather condition in the Coastal Waters of Korea where feeder network was well-developed. As a result, we could find out the system's efficacy on fuel saving and environment cost saving.

An Efficient Character Recognition Algorithm in Printed Korean/English Documents Including Touching Characters (붙은 글자들이 포함된 인쇄체 한.영 혼용 문서에서의 효과적인 문자 인식 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, we present a character recognition algorithm in printed korean and english documents including touching characters. We derived two rules to segment and recognize touching characters in the bilingual documents, one from the shape characteristics of korean and english characters of the writing blocks defined in this paper, and the other from the RF (reliability factor) values generated from the classifiers. Overall classification accuracy for the KITE paper of the proposed algorithm was about 96.8% for the english abstract, and about 97.8% for the bilingual parts. Also we confirmed the proposed algorithm significantly improves the accuracy of character segmentation of the actual mixed korean and english documents including touching characters.

  • For a polygon P, we consider the centroid $G_0$ of the vertices of P, the centroid $G_1$ of the edges of P and the centroid $G_2$ of the interior of P. When P is a triangle, (1) we always have $G_0=G_2$ and (2) P satisfies $G_1=G_2$ if and only if it is equilateral. For a quadrangle P, one of $G_0=G_2$ and $G_0=G_1$ implies that P is a parallelogram. In this paper, we investigate the relationships between centroids of quadrangles. As a result, we establish some characterizations for rhombi and show that among convex quadrangles whose two diagonals are perpendicular to each other, rhombi and kites are the only ones satisfying $G_1=G_2$. Furthermore, we completely classify such quadrangles.
