Existing pedagogical issues of digital design including BIM have been focused not on potential of Digital Design but on skills of BIM or digital modeling tool. Kinetic facade can move or change material state to react surrounding environment conditions. It is a suitable design object for teaching principle of Performance Oriented Digital Design. Variables of movements affect multi-criteria of performances of kinetic facade, so different design approach from fixed facade design should be explored. Kinetic facade design process is proposed to study pedagogical issues of Performance Oriented Digital Design in this paper. Through Kinetic facade design process, students can understand conditions, variables, and performances of digital design.
The objective of the present study is the development of a comprehensive air chemical kinetic model that includes 11 species and 54 chemical reactions for the numerical investigation of air nonequilibrium inductively coupled plasmas. The two-dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the electromagnetic-field equations were employed to describe the fundamental characteristics of an inductive plasma. Dunn-Kangs 32 chemical-reaction model of air was reconstructed and used as a comparative model. The effects of the different chemical kinetic models on the flow field were analyzed and discussed at identical/different working pressures. The results theoretically indicate that no matter the working pressure is low or high, the use of the 54 chemical kinetic model presented in this study is a better choice for the numerical simulation of a nonequilibrium air ICP.
A finite element modeling approach has been described for the simulation and analysis of the micron-scaled solid particle impact behavior in kinetic spraying process, using an explicit code (ABAQUS 6.7-2). High-strain-rate plastic deformation and interface bonding features of the copper, nickel, aluminum, and titanium were investigated via FEM in conjunction with the Johnson-Cook plasticity model. Different aspects of adiabatic shear instabilities of the materials were characterized as a concept of thermal boost-up zone (TBZ), and also discussed based upon energy balance concept with respect to relative recovery energy (RRE) for the purpose of optimizing the bonding process.

For decades, modeling of pilots has been intensively studied due to its advantages in reducing costs for training and enhancing safety of pilots. In particular, research for modeling of pilots' non-kinetic behaviors which refer to the decisions made by pilots is beneficial as the expertise of pilots can be inherent in the models. With the recent growth in the amount of combat logs accumulated, employing statistical learning methods for the modeling becomes possible. However, the combat logs consist of heterogeneous data that are not only continuous or discrete but also sequence independent or dependent, making it difficult to directly applying the learning methods without modifications. Therefore, in this paper, we present a kernel function named hybrid sequence kernel which addresses the problem by using multiple kernel learning methods. Based on the empirical experiments by using combat logs obtained from a simulator, the proposed kernel showed satisfactory results.
The kinetic façade system is an interactive building envelope which is adaptive to environmental condition by transforming the behaviour of its components. The design process of kinetic façade system calls for a novel approach. It needs to support designers to adopt technologies from multidisciplinary fields such as physical computing and robotics. In this paper, prototyping method is introduced as a useful technique for implementing kinetic façade systems. In order to incorporate prototyping method into architectural design process, two aspects are investigated in digital design studio: (1) The interactions between digital and analogue environments (2) The role of traditional design tools. Furthermore, the role of BIM is investigated by analyzing two aspects.
The effects of the agitation and aeration rates on the production of serratiopeptidase (SRP) in a 5-L fermentor (working volume 2-l) were systematically investigated using Serratia marcescens NRRL B-23112. The dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, biomass, SRP yield, and maltose utilization were all continuously measured during the course of the fermentation runs. The efficiencies of the aeration and agitation were evaluated based on the volumetric mass transfer coefficient ($K_La$). The maximum SRP production of 11,580 EU/ml with a specific SRP productivity of 78.8 EU/g/h was obtained with an agitation of 400 rpm and aeration of 0.075 vvm, which was 58% higher than the shake-flask level. The $K_La$ for the fermentation system supporting the maximum production (400 rpm, 0.075 vvm) was 11.3 $h^{-1}$. Under these fermentor optimized conditions, kinetic modeling was performed to understand the detailed course of the fermentation process. The resulting logistic and Luedeking-Piret models provided an effective description of the SRP fermentation, where the correlation coefficients for cell growth, SRP formation, and substrate consumption were 0.99, 0.94, and 0.84, respectively, revealing a good agreement between the model-predicted and experimental results. The kinetic analysis of the batch fermentation process for the production of SRP demonstrated the SRP production to be mixed growth associated.
A kinetic model of the cyclodextrin formation in a heterogeneous enzyme reaction system using swollen extrusion starch as substrate was derived emphasing the structural features of extrusion starch. The degree of gelatinization, the ratio of accessible and inaccessible portion of extrusion starch, adsorption of CGTase on swollen starch, the structural transformation during reaction, and product inhibition caused by produced CDs were considered in deriving kinetic model. Various kinetic constants were also evaluated. The derived kinetic equation was numerically simulated, which result showed that the derived kinetic equations can be used to predict the experimental data reasonably well under the various experimental conditions. Kinetic model can be utilized for the optimization of enzyme reactor and the process development for CD production from swollen extrusion starch.
Purpose: This review aims at introducing 3 modeling approaches classified into 3 categories based on the purpose (estimation or prediction), structure (linear or non-linear) and phase (steady-state or dynamic-state); 1) statistical approaches, 2) kinetic modeling and 3) mechanistic modeling. We hope that this review can be a useful guide in the model-based approach of calcium metabolism as well as illustrates an application of engineering tools in studying biosystems. Background: The meaning of biosystems has been expanded, including agricultural/food system as well as biological systems like genes, cells and metabolisms. This expansion has required a useful tool for assessing the biosystems and modeling has arisen as a method that satisfies the current inquiry. To suit for the flow of the era, examining the system which is a little bit far from the traditional biosystems may be interesting issue, which can enlarge our insights and provide new ideas for prospective biosystem-researches. Herein, calcium metabolic models reviewed as an example of application of modeling approaches into the biosystems. Review: Calcium is an essential nutrient widely involved in animal and human metabolism including bone mineralization and signaling pathways. For this reason, the calcium metabolic system has been studied in various research fields of academia and industries. To study calcium metabolism, model-based system analyses have been utilized according to the purpose, subject characteristics, metabolic sites of interest, and experimental design. Either individual metabolic pathways or a whole homeostasis has been modeled in a number of studies.
Knock in SI engines causes physical damage to the piston and combustion chamber and lowers the thermal efficiency. The increase in compression ratio which can improve the thermal efficiency and engine performance has been limited by engine knock. So the need of making clear the knocking phenomenon has increased. This paper reviews the methods of knock detection, characterization and prediction of knock with the reduced chemical kinetic modeling.
