The consumptions of oriental drugs are increasing year by year in Korea. However, there is no official standards or even proposal of the professional organizations. One hundred and twenty usual profitable items of oriental drugs are selected and attempted to standardize their origins, appearances, properties, purities and identification reactions in order to evaluate those qualities.

Using the extensional vibration mode of PZT bar, a piezopump is successfully made. The traveling extensional wave along the circumference of the bar is obtained by dividing standing waves which are temporally and spatially phase shifted by 90 degrees from each other. The proposed piezopump is consisted of coaxial cylindrical shells that are bonded piezoelectric ceramic bar.

Due to the pressure of opening electric power market, the transmission system reliability evaluation is being more important. This paper presents a reliability evaluation method for a specific area using the elastic power system frequency decline characteristic. The practicality and effectiveness of this methodology is illustrated by a case study.

The confining effect of concrete was studied when a steel tube is set at the inside face of a hollow reinforced concrete column. To investigate the confining effect by a steel tube, 36 specimens were tested and compared. Test results show that the inserted steel tube provide sufficient confinement to the confining effect depends on the thickness of the steel tube. And also, test results show that the provided confinement by a steel tube increase the strength of concrete.

2-(Allylthio)pyrazine derivatives were designed as a novel cancer chemopreventive agent that functions through selective inhibtion of cytochrome P-450 and induction of phase 11 enzymes involved in the detoxification of carcinogens. A practical preparation method of 2-(allylthio) pyrazine derivatives was established by the reaction of 2-mercaptopyrazine and allylbromides in the presence of a catalytic antioxidant, DABCO (1,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2] octane), in dimethyl-formamide at below $50^{\circ}C$.

This paper presents a method of sub-optimal control for nonlinear systems via block pulse transformation. The adaptive optimal control scheme proposed by J.P. Matuszewski is introduced to minimize the performance index. The proposed method is simple and computationally advantageous. Viablity of the this method is established with simulation results for the van der Pole equation for comparision with other methods.

We demonstrated a replica molding technique for producing a self-formed multidomain structure displays (LCDs). The multidomain structure was naturally obtained on a replica mold film having periodic patterns which have two dimensional microgrooves. It was found that with the axially symmetric multidomain structure along the microgrooves exhibits excellent viewing characteristics.
