A laboratory study was carried out to recover KI crystals with high purity by using fractional crystallization method from a waste solution generated from the production of polarizing film for LCD industry. The waste solution contains 1.3% KI, and other impurities such as B, Na, and PVA etc. With purity higher than 99.5% KI crystals were produced through refining process such as vacuum evaporation, fractional crystallization, filtering, and 24hr aging. Also the concentrated impurities were eliminated about 70% by recrystallization.

Objectives : This study investigated the antioxidant effect of electro-acupuncture at $KI_6$ on rats treated with 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride(AAPH). Methods : After electro-acupuncture at $KI_6$ on 48 rats that were given AAPH(50mg/kg) every day, the author observed several changes in weight, liver index, albumin, total bilirubin, LDL-cholesterol, LDH, glucose, GOT, GPT, SOD and catalase activity, and glutathione, NO, and MDA concentrations. Results : 1. In the $KI_6-EA$ group, the albumin level increased and LDL-cholesterol decreased compared with the control and holder groups. 2. In the $KI_6-EA$ group, SOD activity increased compared with the holder group, glutathione concentration increased compared with the control and holder groups, and catalase activity increased compared with the control group. 3. In the $KI_6-EA$ group, NO concentration decreased compared with the control and holder groups. Conclusions : This case shows that electro-acupuncture at $KI_6$ plays a significant antioxidant role by elevating defenses against cell toxicity caused by oxidative stress and suppressing oxidative injury.

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Stephaniae tetrandrae Radix Herbal-acupuncture(SR-HA) at KI10(Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS) in rats. Methods : Male SD rats (n=32) were allocated to four groups; normal, LPS, saline, and SR-HA. The rats in the LPS, saline, and SR-HA groups were injected intra-peritoneally with LPS (2 mg/kg) to induce nephritis. The rats in the saline and SR-HA groups were treated with saline injection and SR-HA respectively at KI10 three times a week. To evaluate the effects of SR-HA at KI10 on nephritis in rats, the authors evaluated the numbers of WBC and neutrophils in blood, and the levels of creatinine, TNF-${\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine and renal MPO. Results : SR-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the increase of WBC and neutrophils in blood, TNF-${\alpha}$, CINC-1 in serum, creatine, total protein in urine and MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusions : SR-HA at KI10 may have therapeutic effects on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rats.

Objectives : To study correlation between Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, Kupperman’s Index (KI) and Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) of Postmenopausal Women Methods : We analyzed 114 patients visiting Pohang Oriental Hospital from 1 ^st January 2014 to 30 ^th September 2015. The evaluating indexed of this trial were Age, DITI, KI, MRS. Temperature and different of temperature, such as In-dang (HN3), dan-Jung (CV17), gwan-won (CV4), hyup-back (LU4), no-gung (PC8), bock-to (ST31), and tae-chung (LR3). Results : Age was no correlation with DITI, KI, and MRS. There were positive correlation with KI and MRS significantly. DITI was not correlated with Age, KI and MRS, while ⊿T1 (LU4-PC8) was correlated with ⊿T2 (ST31-LR3) and ⊿T3 (CV17-CV4). Conclusions : There were non-significant correlation between DITI and Menopausal scale, but significant correlation in DITI themselves, Menopausal themselves. The More studies ar needed for the more accurate oriental medical diagnosis

Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Plantaginis Semen herbal-acupuncture (PS-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in rat. Methods : The authors performed several experimental items including measurements of urinary volume, WBC in blood, BUN, creatine, TNF-$\alpha$, CINC-1 in serum, creatinine, total protein in urine, TNF-$\alpha$, MPO in kidney and histological analysis of renal tissue. Results : PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced WBC in blood, BUN, TNF-$\alpha$ in serum of LPS-stimulated rats. PS-HA at KI10 significantly increased urinary volume in LPS-stimulated rats. And PS-HA at KI10 significantly reduced MPO in kidney of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusion : Taken together, PS-HA at KI10 has a therapeutic effect on nephritis in LPS-stimulated rat. Therefore, it is suggested that PS-HA at KI10 may be an useful therapeutics for nephritis in clinical field.

Microbial bioconversion using lactic acid bacteria (LAB) provides several human health benefits. Although whey and whey-derived bioactive compounds can contribute to an improvement in human health, the potential anti-obesity effect of whey bioconversion by LAB has not been well studied. This study aimed to investigate whether bioconversion of whey by Pediococcus pentosaceus KI31 and Lactobacillus sakei KI36 (KI31-W and KI36-W, respectively) inhibits 3T3-L1 preadipocyte differentiation. Both KI31-W and KI36-W reduced intracellular lipid accumulation significantly, without decreasing 3T3-L1 preadipocyte proliferation. In addition, obesity-related transcription factor (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ) and genes (adipocyte fatty acid-binding protein and lipoprotein lipase) were down-regulated significantly in 3T3-L1 cells in the presence of KI31-W and KI36-W. Collectively, these results suggest that bioconversion of whey by LAB exhibits anti-adipogenic activity and may be applied as a therapeutic agent for obesity.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Zeae Stigma herbal-acupuncture (ZS-HA) at KI10 (Umgok) on nephritis induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in rats. Methods: Rats were assigned to five groups, normal, LPS, NP, saline and ZS-HA. Rats in NP, saline, and ZS-HA groups were treated with needle prick, saline injection, and ZS-HA respectively at KI10, three times a week. All animals except the normal group were injected intra-peritoneally with LPS to induce nephritis. RBC and WBC, neutrophils in blood, TNF-alpha, CINC-1, creatinine in serum, urinal volume, total protein and creatinine in urine, and renal MPO were analyzed. Results: Needle prick at KI10 significantly reduced WBC in blood and CINC-1 in serum of LPS-stimulated rats. Saline injection at KI10 significantly reduced TNF-${\alpha}$ in serum and total protein in urine of LPS-stimulated rats. ZS-HA at KI10 significantly increased RBC in blood, and significantly reduced neutrophils in blood, TNF-${\alpha}$ in serum, and total protein in urine of LPS-stimulated rats. Conclusions: According to these results, it is postulated that ZS-HA at KI10 has anti-inflammatory and renal-protective effects on LPS-induced nephritis in rats, and both acupoint KI10 and herb Zeae Stigma made contributions to this effect. Further studies on the interaction between acupoint KI10 and herb Zeae Stigma may be needed.

Objective & Methods : The purpose of this study was to observe the effects of herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus extact(RLF-HA) at KI10(Umgok) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized( OVX) ddy mice. We carried out several experimental items to analyze the changes in body weight, uterine weight, uterus index, tibial length, the ash bone weight, tibial BMD, serum ALP, serum osteocalcin, serum Ca, and the levels of Ca, P, Ca/P ratio in tibia, and we performed histological and histomorphological analysis as well. Results : 1. Herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus at KI10(Umgok) and saline injection at KI10(Umgok) significantly inhibited the reduction of tibial calcium level in ovariectomized mice. 2. Herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus at KI10(Umgok) significantly inhibited the increase of tibial osteoclast cells in ovariectomized mice. 3. Herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus at KI10(Umgok) significantly inhibited the reduction of tibial trabecular bone thickness(TBT) in ovariectomized mice. 4. Herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus at KI10(Umgok) significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibial growth plate length(GPL) in ovariectomized mice. Conclusion : These results suggested that herbal-acupuncture with Rosae Laevigatae Fructus at KI10(Umgok) has a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis, and to be put to practical use in the future osteoporosis clinic.

Background: The prognostic value of the Ki67 expression level is yet unclear in breast cancer. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between Ki67 expression levels and prognostic factors such as grade, Her2 and hormone receptor expression status in breast cancers. Materials and Methods: Clinical and pathological features of the patients with breast cancer were retreived from the hospital records. Results: In this study, 163 patients with breast cancer were analyzed, with a mean age of $53.4{\pm}12.2$ years. Median Ki67 positivity was 20% and Ki67-high tumors were significantly associated with high grade (p<0.001), lymphovascular invasion (p=0.001), estrogen receptor (ER) negativity (p=0.035), Her2 positivity (p=0.001), advanced stage (p<0.001) and lymph node positivity (p<0.003). Lower Ki67 levels were significantly associated with longer median relapse-free and overall survival compared to those of higher Ki67 levels. Conclusions: High Ki67 expression is associated with ER negativity, Her2 positivity, higher grade and axillary lymph node involvement in breast cancers. The level of Ki67 expression is a prognostic factor predicting relapse-free and overall survival in breast cancer patients.
