Important measure analysis of uncertainty parameters in bridge probabilistic seismic demands

  • A moment-independent importance measure analysis approach was introduced to quantify the effects of structural uncertainty parameters on probabilistic seismic demands of simply supported girder bridges. Based on the probability distributions of main uncertainty parameters in bridges, conditional and unconditional bridge samples were constructed with Monte-Carlo sampling and analyzed in the OpenSees platform with a series of real seismic ground motion records. Conditional and unconditional probability density functions were developed using kernel density estimation with the results of nonlinear time history analysis of the bridge samples. Moment-independent importance measures of these uncertainty parameters were derived by numerical integrations with the conditional and unconditional probability density functions, and the uncertainty parameters were ranked in descending order of their importance. Different from Tornado diagram approach, the impacts of uncertainty parameters on the whole probability distributions of bridge seismic demands and the interactions of uncertainty parameters were considered simultaneously in the importance measure analysis approach. Results show that the interaction of uncertainty parameters had significant impacts on the seismic demand of components, and in some cases, it changed the most significant parameters for piers, bearings and abutments.

Verifying the Voluntariness of the Location of Drunk Driving Accidents (음주운전사고 발생위치의 임의성 검증)

  • The cases of drunk driving accidents have been steadily increasing every year. The number of accidents was quadrupled from 7,303 cases in 1990 to 25,150 cases in 2004. In addition, the proportion of drunk driving accidents to total traffic accidents was 2.9% in 1990 but it increased to 13.0% in 2003. Studies of drunk driving accidents have been focusing on analyzing psychological decisive factors, classifying drivers' individual characters and types of drunk driving accidents by considering the location of drunk driving accidents. This study assumed that drunk driving accidents would have regular characteristics in respect to spatiality and analyzed its relation with spatial factors such as, accident black spot, the location of bars, the distance of drivers' houses, and spatio-temporal distributional characteristics through drawing density distribution and connecting the time of accidents. In order to achieve the goal of this study, the individual location information was organized and drawn as types of GIS data. From the result of density distribution using Kernel Density Mapping and analysis through the coefficient of areal correspondence, it was understood that drunk driving accidents correlates with some spatial factors.

  • 수자원 분야에 대한 기후변화의 영향은 홍수, 가뭄 등 극치 수문사상의 증가와 변동성 확대를 초래하는 것으로 알려져 있으며, 이에 따라 예년에 비해 발생빈도 및 심도가 증가한 가뭄에 대한 모니터링 및 피해경감을 위해 정부에서는 국민안전처를 비롯한 관계기관 합동으로 생활 공업 농업용수 등 분야별 가뭄정보를 제공하고 있다. 국토교통부와 환경부는 생활 및 공업용수 분야의 가뭄정보 제공을 위해 광역 지방 상수도를 이용하는 급수 지역과 마을상수도, 소규모급수시설 등 미급수지역의 용수수급 정보를 분석하여 가뭄 분석정보를 제공 중에 있다. 하지만, 미급수지역에 대한 가뭄 예?경보는 기준이 되는 수원정보의 부재로 기상 가뭄지수인 SPI6를 이용하여 정보를 생산하고 있다. 기상학적 가뭄 상황과 물부족에 의한 체감 가뭄은 차이가 있으며, 미급수 지역의 경우 지하수를 주 수원으로 사용하는 지역이 대부분으로 기상학적 가뭄지수인 SPI6를 이용한 가뭄정보로 실제 물수급 상황을 반영하기는 부족한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 미급수지역의 주요 수원인 지하수의 수위 상황을 반영한 가뭄모니터링 기법을 개발하고자 하였으며, 가용량 분석이 현실적으로 어려운 지하수의 특성을 고려하여 수위 거동의 통계적 분석을 통해 가뭄을 모니터링 할 수 있는 방법으로 접근하였다. 국가지하수관측소 중 관측기간이 10년 이상이고 강우와의 상관성이 높은 관측소들을 선정한 후, 일수위 관측자료를 월별로 분리하여 1월~12월 각 월에 대해 핵밀도 함수 추정기법(kernel densitiy estimation)을 적용하여 월별 지하수위 분포 특성을 도출하였다. 각 관측소별 관측수위 분포에 대해 백분위수(percentile)를 이용하여, 25%~100% 사이는 정상, 10%~25% 사이는 주의단계, 5%~10% 사이는 심한가뭄, 5% 이하는 매우심함으로 가뭄의 단계를 구분하였다. 각 백분위수에 해당하는 수위 값은 추정된 Kernel Density와 Quantile Function을 이용하여 산정하였고, 최근 10일 평균수위를 현재의 수위로 설정하여 가뭄의 정도를 분류하였다. 분석된 결과는 관측소를 기점으로 역거리가중법(inverse distance weighting)을 통해 공간 분포를 시켰으며, 수문학적, 지질학적 동질성을 반영하기 위하여 유역도 및 수문지질도를 중첩한 공간연산을 통해 전국 지하수 가뭄상태를 나타내는 지하수위 등급분포도를 작성하였다. 실제 가뭄상황과의 상관성을 분석하기 위해 언론기사를 통해 확인된 가뭄시기와 백문위수 25%이하로 분석된 지하수 가뭄시기를 ROC(receiver operation characteristics) 분석을 통해 비교 검증하였다.

A Study on the Deriving of Areas of Concern for Crime using the Mental Map (멘탈 맵을 이용한 범죄발생 우려 지역 도출에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, citizens are feeling anxious as 'Motiveless Crime' increases. The quality of citizens life is degraded and the degree of crime fear is increasing. In this study, based on various variables related to crime other than actual crime occurrence status, crime occurrence points (point line polygon) felt by citizens are created by using mental map methodology. And the purpose of this study is to derive the area of concern for crime through spatial overlap analysis using kernel density estimation analysis. It also uses spatial overlay analysis using kernel density estimation to derive areas of concern for crime occurrence. As a result, the local residents' request point and the areas of concern for crime were overlapped. In addition, the mental map indicating the fear of crime was constructed by mapping mainly the areas between the facilities, the non-construction area such as the narrow area, the security CCTV, the streetlight. This study is meaningful in that it tried to derive a crime occurrence concern area by using mental map method unlike the previous study related to crime. The results of this study, such as mental map, could be used in various fields such as construction of fragile crime map, guideline of crime prevention through environment design.

Home-Range of Mallard and Spot-billed Duck in Korea (청둥오리와 흰뺨검둥오리의 월동기 행동권 비교 연구)

  • Mallard and Spot-billed ducks that are typical wintering water birds use the wide rice field in the center of the water system as a wintering ground. I try to figure out the daily movement distance from Home-Range to wintering ground for mallard and spot-billed ducks in Mangyunggang, Dongjingang where located in central region. In 2015 wintering period by using a Cannon-net, I attached WT-300 to 5 mallard and 5 spot-billed ducks. Daily movement distance is an overall average 0.89km, the largest distance was 31.09km. Daily movement distance of mallard was 0.97km, the largest distance was 28.78km. Daily movement distance of Spot-billed ducks was 0.80km, the largest distance was 33.39km. Home-Range analysis is used by the SHP files that is compatible with GIS and ArcGIS 9.0 Animal Movement Extension, it was analyzed using the Minimum Convex Polygon Method (MCP) and the Kernel Density Estimation (KDE). The behavior rights of two kinds of ducks was $490.34km^2$ by Minimum Convex Polygon Method (MCP) ($SD=311.20km^2N=10$), an important habitats Kernel Density Estimation (KDE 50%) was $42.24km^2$. Home-Range of Mallard (MCP) was $568.02km^2$, it is wider than home-range(MCP) of spot-billed duck $397.13km^2$ relatively, the core habitats of mallard is $53.05km^2$, it is wider than mallard's core habitats(KDE 50%) $29.26km^2$ relatively.

Selection of New Particulate Matter Monitoring Stations using Kernel Analysis - Elementary Schools, Seoul, Korea (커널분석을 활용한 미세먼지 신규 측정소 선정 - 서울시 초등학교를 대상으로 -)

  • The particulate matters show high values in winter and spring season, it has a bad influence on the outdoor people. That's why government needs to come up with countermeasures for social weak people like elementary school students. In this paper, new particulate matter stations select ed about elementary schools using spatial analysis. Seoul city areas were divided with 608 hexagon grids(500m), and then implement spatial analysis such as kernel analysis. Finally, new particulate matter stations select through the results of kernel density analysis and point displacement. The results show that, 10 hexagon grids about new particulate matter stations were selected and listed 15 elementary schools including 10 hexagon grids. The 15 elementary schools were including Gangbuk gu, Eunpyeong gu, Guro gu, Dong gu, Geumcheon gu, Dongdaemun gu, Gangdong gu, Songpa gu, Gwangjin gu and Gangnam gu. The results suggests a new management plan direction according to the spatial analysis, result in the process of selecting the measures for the '2018 School Fine Dust Comprehensive Management Measures' announced by the Ministry of Education. Also, this study can be expanded by adding specific buildings as well as the school.

Silage Yield of Korean Local Maize Lines(MET) with Many Tillers and Ears (다수다얼성 재래종 옥수수 계통의 청예수량)

  • From a series of studies conducted on the local maize lines at the Agr. College of the Chungnam National Univ., a few maize lines with many tillers and ears per plant were identified and tentatively named as MET. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the MET lines, which were selfed for five generations, for silage purpose under the different plant densities. A hybrid, Suwon #19 and a synthetic variety, Puyo #3${\times}$#2, were included for comparison. Plant height at harvesting times showed no significant varietal differences. However, the MET lines were very slow in early plant growth compared to the hybrid or synthetic variety, probably due to inbreeding depression of the MET lines. Total fresh weight at the harvesting times was highest in the MET 1 line. The MET 1 line was about 2,000 kgr. per 10a. higher than the hybrid at the harvesting time. The highest fresh weight was obtained when grown under the plant density of 60 ${\times}$ 20cm. Total dry weight per unit area showed the same tendency as the fresh weight. Total dry weight of MET 1 line was about 2.4 tons per 10a., which was about 10% higher than the hybrid, Suwon #19. As the fresh weight, the total dry weight was also highest in the plant density of 60 ${\times}$ 20cm. The grain yield per 10 are of MET 1 was comparable to the grain yield of the hybrid, especially in the low plant density, 60 ${\times}$ 40cm. The average number of effective tillers of MET lines were 4.5, while the mean tiller number of the hybrid or synthetic variety were none. However, the lodging was one of the problem for growing MET lines. The 100 kernel weight of MET lines was about 9 gr., while the 100 kernel weight of the hybrid or synthetic variety was about 30 grm.

Transient analysis of two dissimilar FGM layers with multiple interface cracks

  • The analytical solution of two functionally graded layers with Volterra type screw dislocation is investigated under anti-plane shear impact loading. The energy dissipation of FGM layers is modeled by viscous damping and the properties of the materials are assumed to change exponentially along the thickness of the layers. In this study, the rate of gradual change ofshear moduli, mass density and damping constant are assumed to be same. At first, the stress fields in the interface of the FGM layers are derived by using a single dislocation. Then, by determining a distributed dislocation density on the crack surface and by using the Fourier and Laplace integral transforms, the problem are reduce to a system ofsingular integral equations with simple Cauchy kernel. The dynamic stress intensity factors are determined by numerical Laplace inversion and the distributed dislocation technique. Finally, various examples are provided to investigate the effects of the geometrical parameters, material properties, viscous damping and cracks configuration on the dynamic fracture behavior of the interacting cracks.

Generation of emulsions due to the impact of surfactant-laden droplet on a viscous oil layer on water (벤츄리 노즐 출구 형상과 작동 조건에 따른 캐비테이션 기포 발생 특성 연구)

  • Three design parameters were considered in this study: outlet nozzle angle (30°, 60°, 80°), neck length (1 mm, 3 mm), and flow rate (0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 lpm). A neck diameter of 0.5 mm induced cavitation flow at a venture nozzle. A secondary transparent chamber was connected after ejection to increase bubble duration and shape visibility. The bubble size was estimated using a Gaussian kernel function to identify bubbles in the acquired images. Data on bubble size were used to obtain Sauter's mean diameter and probability density function to obtain specific bubble state conditions. The degree of bubble generation according to the bubble size was compared for each design variable. The bubble diameter increased as the flow rate increased. The frequency of bubble generation was highest around 20 ㎛. With the same neck length, the smaller the CV number, the larger the average bubble diameter. It is possible to increase the generation frequency of smaller bubbles by the cavitation method by changing the magnification angle and length of the neck. However, if the flow rate is too large, the average bubble diameter tends to increase, so an appropriate flow rate should be selected.

Noise Loading Analysis using Volterra Kernels to Characterize Fiber Nonlinearities

  • We derive analytical expressions for the output spectral density and the noise power $P_{\beta}$ in noise loading analysis using Volterra kernels to characterize fiber nonlinearities. The bandwidth of the input noise source has little effect on $P_{\beta}$, but the power of the input noise source and the dispersion parameter value of the fiber have a significant effect on $P_{\beta}$. The Volterra method predicts ${\Delta}P_{\beta}[dB]$ = 30 dB/decade, which agrees very accurately over a wide range of fiber parameters compared with the numerical results by the split-step Fourier method. Therefore the Volterra method could be useful to predict the performance of a dense WDM system when we plan to upgrade fiber or increase signal power.
