This paper describes case studies for UPFC installation, The studies include UPFC at Inez, KT, CSC at Marcy, NY, and UPFC at Kangjin, Korea. For each case, engineering about problem of power system and benefits of UPFC installation are presented. And operation policy of Kangjin UPFC will be established by engineering of power system.

This study has proved if there are homogeneities in crystal structures, firing temperaures and element compositions of 69 specimens for potteries and soils from Changdo, Kangjin-gun, Jinjuk-Ri in Korea and Yaezhou inChina and obtained the following results.1. XRD analyses showed that soft potteries seemed to contain ($\alpha$)quartz, feldspar, while hard potteries seemed to contain ($\alpha$-)quartz, mullite, tridymite, feldspar. Jinjuk-Ri soils consisted of clays such as Kiolinite, Montmorillonite, Muscovite, Illite and, mica and feldspar etc.2. It was estimated that the firing temperatures which are determined by crystals using XRD, ranged from $550^{\circ}C$ to $870^{\circ}C$ for soft potteries and $870^{\circ}C$ to $975^{\circ}C$ for hard potteries.3. The firing temperatures for 4-pieces of Changdo pottery were measured by using TG-DTA, and it was found that specimen No. 10 was fired at temperatures below $600^{\circ}C$, while specimens No. 14, No. 23 and No. 29 were fired at temperatures above $1000^{\circ}C$.4. It was found that the specimems for potteries and porcelains from Changdo, Kangjin-gun, Jinjuk-Ri in Korea and Yaezhou in China were apparently classified into 4 clusters. This suggests that there are no correlations between the raw materials used in each 4 regions. Among the porcelains from Changdo, there were many typologically similar ones to those from Yaezhou in China in the 9th centry, but the analyses of porcelains only from Changdo, Kangjin in Korea and Yaezhouin China showed that they were classified into 3 clusters. This suggest that there are no correlations between the raw materials used for making porcelains in Changdo, Kangjin-gun, Jinjuk-Ri in Korea and Yaezhou in China.

하계 남강댐 방류수 유입에 의해 강하게 성층화된 남해 강진만에서 3차원 수치모델과 결합된 라그랑지안 입자추적모델링 실험을 통해 방류수의 거동 특성과 만내 평균 체류시간을 추정했다. 조위와 유속장, 수온장, 염분장에 대해 각각 스킬 분석(skill analysis)을 이용해 검증했고, 그 결과 대부분 85%가 넘는 재현율을 보였다. 방류 초기 투하한 입자는 노량수도와 대방수도를 통해 외해로 유출되었으나, 최대 방류시기에 투하한 입자는 남향하는 강한 밀도류에 의해 사천만, 진주만, 강진만으로 유입되었으며, 지형적 요인과 해수유동 특성상 외해로 유출되지 못하여 체류시간이 증가했다. 투하한 입자 전체의 평균 체류시간은 약 65.9 시간(약 2.75일)이며, 초기 방류시 투하한 입자의 평균 체류시간은 약 55~65 시간, 방류 종료시 투하한 입자는 약 60~70 시간이다. 방류량 최대시 투하한 입자는 약 70~80 시간으로 방류량이 증가하면서 체류시간이 약 10~20 시간 증가하는 양의 상관성(R = 0.81)으로 나타났고, 이는 강진만 생태계가 장기간 지속적으로 저염수에 의한 염분 충격을 받은 것으로 볼 수 있다.

Namakshin(: Wooden clogs), also called keukja, moklee, or mokhye usually have high heels to be worn on rainy days. According to the "Hamel's Journal and a description of the Kingdom of Korea, 1653-1666", a book authored by Hendrick Hamel (1630-1692), the 33 crew members of the S/S Sperwer were interned in March 1656 under the jurisdiction of the "Pyongsa" (Commandant) in Pyongyong, Kangjin and they were instrumental in making clogs of their native country and sold them to people around the Pyongyong area to earn some extra money. Pyongyong & Gangjin's wooden shoes are clearly different from those produced in the rest of Korea and bear striking resemblance to traditional Dutch clogs (klompen in Dutch). According to Hamel's narratives, the Dutch captives made wooden shoes for a living in Jeonlla province. Namakshin in Chosun was divided into 5 type, woman's rubber shoes, Condora, Taesahye, Balmaksin, trough style.

임상적으로 건강한 진도개 203두의 혈액치(血液値)를 조사(調査)하였다. 203두에는 암수가 다 포함되어 있었으며 개의 연령은 3개월에서 10세까지 이었다. 적혈구수(赤血球數), 혈색소량(血色素量), 적혈구용적(赤血球容積) 그리고 호산구수(好酸球數) 등은 개의 연령과 함께 증가하였다. 진도개에서 나타난 높은 호산구수(好酸球數)는 심장사상충증(心臟絲狀蟲症)과 벼룩의 감염에 의한 피부염(皮膚炎)때문인 것으로 생각된다.

For the purpose of estimation of navigational method and ability about fishing raft, we have practical navigation of her from Chujado on Oct, 7 to Maryang-ri , Kangjin-kun, Jeonranman-do on Oct.10. The results obtained are as follow : 1. Ancient navigation of her is thought to over to an isolated island in the vicinity with a good informations and experiences. 2. Speed of her in outward voyage is 1.34 knots, but is varied with structure and shape of her and ability of fishing raftman. 3. The lee way(U) of her with sail of hight 2.5m and breadth about 1.2m according to windspeed(W) is U=$0.038{\times}W$ 4. We could estimate to take only three days to go over from Chujado to Maryang-ri, Kangjin-kun. Jeonranam-do by her with sail, and make a voyage total 55 miles for thirty-four hours and ten minutes i, e, mean speed is 1.6knots resulty.

전력계통의 유연하고 안정적인 운용을 위한 인버터형 FACTS 기기의 국내 적용에 대한 연구 결과를 토대로 국내 154kV 계통에 적용되는 80MVA급 UPFC pilot plant project가 수행되었다. Project의 결과물로써 80MVA급 UPFC가 강진-장흥 154kV 계통에 제작, 설치되었다. 강진 변전소 UPFC는 각종 성능 시험 및 시운전 절차를 성공적으로 완료하였으며 현재는 병렬 인버터에 의한 강진 모선의 전압 제어 및 직렬인버터에 의한 강진-장흥간의 조류 제어 기능을 수행하며 상용 운전되고 있다.

UPFC Pilot plant project의 결과물로써 설계, 제작된 80MVA급 UPFC(Unified Power Flow Controller)는 현재 강진변전소 강진-장홍 154kV 선로에 설치되어 commissioning 시험을 완료하고 시험 운전되고 있다. UPFC는 기존에 수동적으로 제어하였던 선로의 전압, 임피던스 및 위상각을 능동적으로 제어함으로써 전력공급의 신뢰성 및 유연성을 높일 수 있다. 이러한 기능을 갖는 UPFC의 시험 운전을 통하여 UPFC의 기기자체의 성능을 검증하고 기기의 운전 영역의 변화가 인근의 계통에 미치는 영향에 대하여 조사하였다.

This paper presents an apparent impedance calculation procedure for distance relaying of transmission line involving FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) devices, particularly the UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller), between Kangjin and Jangheung in Korea. With the changes of UPFC's parameters, the measurement and protective range (trip boundaries) of the adaptive distance relay can also be changed. So, it is the most important part in the field of system protection to analyze the operating characteristic of relaying system. The presence of UPFC significantly affects the trip boundaries which are also adversely affected by fault resistance combined with remote end infeed. This paper presents the apparent impedance calculations and the distance relay setting characteristics for faults involving the UPFC in the KEPCO system.
