Design and fabrication of Ka-band 100W SSPA using spatial combiner (공간결합기를 활용한 Ka대역 100W급 SSPA 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a study was conducted to produce 20W by combining a 10W MMIC and raising the unit power amplifier to 100W SSPA by combining the 8-way spatial coupler. SSPA requires low-loss, high-efficiency coupling techniques to meet high output with the output of a single element relatively low compared to TWTA. Designed and produced in this paper, the SSPA was manufactured as a 100W SSPA by mounting eight 20W high-power amplification modules in an 8-way spatial coupler with a reflection loss of 20dB or more and an excellent coupling efficiency of 94% or more. When -10dBm was applied, it was 112.2~169.8W at 20kHz 20%, 125.9~173.8W at 400kHz 40%, 117.5~162.2W at 800kHz 40%, showing performance of over 60dB and over 100W in all three PRF conditions.

Reflector Based Mobile Satellite Antenna with Novel Beam Steering Scheme (새로운 빔 조향 방식을 갖는 반사판 기반의 이동형 위성 통신 안테나)

  • This paper proposes a hybrid antenna with novel beam steering scheme. The antenna have a cassegrain structure composed of two reflectors. The main reflector is designed for high gain performance using parabola curvature, and the sub-reflector is plate and can be rotated by ${\pm}3^{\circ}$. Thus proposed antenna can steer a antenna beam using the inclination of sub-reflector. A feed array composed of 20 elements is adapted as a feeder for electrical beam steering, and the antenna can be possible to steer the beam by the feed array with sub-reflector. Proposed antenna was fabricated to be operated in Ka-band(30.085$\sim$30.885 GHz) for TX and K-band(20.355$\sim$21.155 GHz), which are the operation frequencies of the Korean satellite, Mugunhwa, to provide satellite multi-media service to vehicles. By the performance test, it can be known that the antenna has minimum gain of 47 dBi for TX and 44.4 dBi for TX and can steer the beam by ${\pm}2^{\circ}$ with sub-reflector.

Innovative Geostationary Communication and Remote Sensing Mutli-purpose Satellite Program in Korea-COMS Program

  • COMS satellite is a multipurpose satellite in the geostationary orbit, which accommodates multiple payloads of the Ka band Satellite Communication Payload, Meteorological Imager, and Geostationary Ocean Color Imager into a single spacecraft platform. In this paper, Korea's first innovative geostationary Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) program is introduced which is fully funded by Korean Government. The satellite platform is based on the Astrium EUROSTAR 3000 communication satellite, but creatively combined with MARS Express satellite platform to accommodate three different payloads efficiently for COMS. The goals of the Ka band satellite communication mission are to in-orbit verify the performances of advanced communication technologies and to experiment wide-band multi-media communication service. The Meteorological Imager mission is to continuously extract meteorological products with high resolution and multi-spectral imager, to detect special weather such as storm, flood, yellow sand, and to extract data on long-term change of sea surface temperature and cloud. The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager mission aims at monitoring of marine environments around Korean peninsula, production of fishery information (Chlorophyll, etc.), and monitoring of long-term/short-term change of marine ecosystem. The system design difficulties are in the different kinds of payload mission requirements of communication and remote sensing purposes and how to combine them into one to meet the overall satellite requirements. In this paper, Ka band communication payload system is more highlighted.

  • 본 논문에서는 성층권 통신망(HAPS)과 기존 위성망 및 지상망과의 원활한 공유를 위해서 진행되고 있는 HAPS 시스템의 간섭경감기법에 관한 연구 동향을 분석한다. 이를위해서 2006년 6월 27일부터 7월 5일까지 개최된 ITU-R WP9B 회의를 통하여 논의된 주요 결과들을 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. Ka 대역에서 고정업무(FS)용으로 활용가능한 HAPS 시스템의 간섭경감기법으로 5가지가 제안되었으며, 특히 본 회의에서는 디지털빔형성(DBF) 기법을 적용한 탑재안테나의 다중빔 패턴의 성능분석 결과들이 제시되었다. HAPS 시스템의 간섭경감기법으로 디지털빔 형성기법을 적용함에 있어서 그 필요성과 ITU-R WP9B에서 논의되고 있는 내용들을 중심으로 간섭경감기법 분석 결과를 기술하고 본 내용과 관련한 ITU-R에서의 향후 연구 전망 등을 살펴보고자 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) 기반의 Ka 대역 초고속 위성 TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) 지구국 시스템인 HiSTARS (High-Speed Satellite TDMA Ground System )시스템에서 망 전체의 형상 및 자원 정보를 관리하며, 장애상태 및 사용 채널에 대한 과금 정보를 관리하며, 장애와 망 전체에서의 망 운용성능과 관련된 통계 정보를 운용자에게 알려주는 망운용관리시스템(Network Management System)을 소개한다. NMS는 운용자의 요구사항을 HiSTARS 시스템의 기준지구국에 위치한 중앙처리시스템과의 빠르고, 정확한 메시지 통신을 통해 즉각적으로 처리하며, 모듈별로 독립적으로 기능들이 구현되어 있으며. 이들 모듈간의 원활한 통신 및 데이터베이스를 통한 데이터 관리를 통해 HiSTARS 시스템의 망 전체를 효과적으로 관리하고 운용할 수 있도록 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 NMS의 디자인 및 구현 방법을 구체적으로 보이겠다.

The Optimum Design of Adaptive Channel Coding for Rain-Attenuation Compensation in Satellite Communication Systems (위성통신시스템에서 강우감쇠 보상을 위한 적응형 부호화 기법 최적 설계)

  • 본 논문에서는 위성통신에서 강우감쇠에 따라 가변 부호화율을 적용시킬 수 있는 적응형 부호화 기법에 대한 연구를 하였다. 따라서, 3bit 연판정을 적용한 Viterbi 복호기를 이용하여 QPSK와 TC-8PSK 신호를 복호할 수 있는 pragmatic TCM과 LSB 부호화 알고리즘에 대해 여러 부호화율에서 성능분석을 하였다. 또한 구현을 위한 최적의 파라미터를 설정하여 부호화율 2/3를 가지는 pragmatic TCM을 VHDL 모델링 하였다. 구현결과 PLEX10KE100EQC208-1 CPLD 칩으로 구현 가능하였으며, 42.36 Mbps의 복호 속도를 가진다. 실제 ASIC 설계시 CPLD 속도보다 약 5∼6배의 고속화가 가능하므로, 200 MHz 트렌스 폰더를 갖는 Ka 대역 초고속 위성통신 시스템에서 강우 감쇠에 대처하기 위한 적응형 트렐리스 부호화방식에 적용할 수 있다.

  • In this paper, an analysis of microstrip-slotline transiton is performed using a 3D vector Finite Element Method(FEM). On the base of the analysis, power divider/combiner is designed. The optimal structure for equal power division in Ka band is also proposed.

  • In this paper, we have experimentally studied on phase characteristics of airborne radome for ELINT directional finding system, because it is difficult to find theoretical solutions for phase error of the radome. Especially, we described the millimeter wave band radome that was fabricated with cyanate-ester material and its thickness was 2mm. We presented the phase error about millimeter band radome. That phase error is about 30 degrees for parallel and perpendicular polarization in the K-Ka band. That is reasonable value for the ELINT directional finding system.

  • 본 논문은 위성방송통신에서 강우 시 위성신호 감쇠로 인한 가용도 저하의 개선을 위한 보상기술 개발의 기초 자료인 강우감쇠 예측모델 수립에 필요한 데이터를 확보하기 위해 멀티 운용 측정 시스템의 개발 및 구축 내용을 기술하였으며, 또한 본 멀티시스템을 통하여 주요 지역의 측정 데이터 및 강우강도를 연계 측정 분석하였으며, 본 분석 자료를 다년간 축적하여 한국형 Ka 대역 강우 감쇠 예측모델 수립에 활용하고자 한다.

  • As a multi-mission GEO satellite, COMS system is being developed jointly by KARI, ETRI, KORDI, KMA, and industries from both abroad and domestic. EADS ASRTIUM is the prime contractor for manufacturing the COMS. ETRI is developing the COMS Ka-band payload and SGCS with the fund from MIC. COMS Satellite Ground Control System (SGCS) will be the only system for monitor and control of the satellite in orbit. In order to fulfill the mission operations of the three payloads and spacecraft bus, COMS SGCS performs telemetry reception and processing, satellite tracking and ranging, command generation and transmission, satellite mission planning, flight dynamics operations, and satellite simulation, By the proper functional allocations, COMS SGCS is divided into five subsystems such as TTC, ROS, MPS, FDS, and CSS. In this paper, functional design of the COMS SGCS is described as five subsystems and the interfaces among the subsystems.
