  • Concrete is inherently a good fire-resistance material among all other constrcution materials and protects the reinforcing steel inside. This study investigates the material characteristics of concrete and steel bar inside the full scale reinforced concrete(RC) beam exposed to fire test. The fire test specimen was 4 m long and the test was conducted under no loading condition following KS F 2257. Fire source is simulated by ISO 834 and number of thermocouples were installed to measure temperature variation of surfaces and inside of the beam. The measured compressive strength of cored specimen, which was exposed to fire test, was 11 MPa, about 66% lower than the strength before exposure. The yielding strength of steel bar also decreased about 75 MPa, about 17% lower. The measured temperature of protected steel bar was around $649^{\circ}C$, the critical limit, after 4 hour exposure.

  • This study was performed to analyze test results on drying shrinkage for concrete specimens mixed with various constituents in concrete mixes. Test variables are coarse aggregate types(Limestone, Sandstone, Granite, Andesite, Gneiss), fine aggregate types(natural sand, crushed sand) and cement amounts(normal strength, high strength). Epoxy coating of(U&V-H(A,B)) was applied onto the specimen surface to simulate diverse volume surface ratios(22.2, 40, 85.7, 150, 200, 300) with different specimen sizes. The experiments had been executed during 1,014 days at a condition of $20^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity of 60% in environmental chambers. Test results showed that shrinkage strain from the specimen equivalent to real pavement decreased to 39% compared to the standard specimen recommended by KS. Test results also showed that shrinkage strain of the specimen mixed with Limestone was 56~76% of that with Sandstone, thus Limestone mix seems to be suitable to the concrete pavement.

  • The steel-concrete composite column (i.e., the SC composite column) supports large-gravity loads and simplifies the installation and removal of the work in pouring the concrete. The column takes advantage of the in-plant prefabrication of steel, the speed of erection of a steel structure, and the fire resistance of steel. This paper presents the results of a parametric study using heat transfer analysis and a P-M interaction curve, and compares these results with the experimental results to check the accuracy of the proposed parametric studies. The parametric studies, such as the study of the concrete ratio of an area and the fire protection thickness, provide information on the fire resistance of SC composite columns.

  • Insulation of rooftop is one of the major performance to energy-saving construction. Further, waterproofing performance is also important. For such a reason, it is need to develop waterproofing method containing thermal insulation property. This study was wanted to evaluate thermal insulation performance about the composite waterproofing method of thermal supplement type that is developed recently. As a result of waterproofing performance test, every test item was showed over the performance standards of KS (Korean (Industrial) Standards). And the result of thermal insulation performance test, the highest temperature in the styrofoam box was $25.91^{\circ}C$, the bubble sheet box was $17.28^{\circ}C$, the insulation sheet box was $15.47^{\circ}C$ and the waterproofing sheet box of thermal supplement type was $24.11^{\circ}C$. In observations of thermal bridges of sheet's joint, thermal bridges was not identified at the sheet's joint. As a result, composite waterproofing method of thermal supplement type is interpreted to have thermal insulation performance.

  • It is considered that vermiculite as an inorganic material is highly effective when it is used as a building finishing material because it is eco-friendly. Vermiculite has excellent properties such as fire resistance, heat insulation, sound absorption as well as prevention of condensation, deodorization and aesthetics. In this study, we developed a finishing board with vermiculite as its main material and mixed with mineral loose wool (VB-L) or mineral powder (VB-P), and conducted fireproof test and insulation test. In addition, fire resistance tests were carried out by applying the two developed vermiculite boards as finishing materials for the standard wall details of light frame wood structures (KS F 1611-1). As a result of the fire resistance test, the VB-L specimen showed better fire resistance than the VB-P specimen. Both vermiculite boards showed sufficient fire resistance performance of 2 hours for a thickness of 30 mm.

  • This research compared the tensile performance of the vegetation mat, which was developed byu using the rapidly growing biodegradable plastic, Poly Lactic Acid(PLA), according to the biodegradation period. The test applied the method defined by Korean Standard KS. In the result of experiment using single-material PLA mesh and PLA plastic, the tensile strength and molecular weight were inverse-proportional to the 5 months of biodegradation period. The thickness of PLA mesh was increased by 11.2~13.4% while the tensile strenth of it was reduced by 32.4~55.4%. The tensile strength and molecular weight of PLA plastic were also reduced over time. However, the tension test of vegetation mat comprised of PLA mesh, non-woven fabric (including seeds), and jute net didn't have specific tendency.

  • The interaction of phenoxide anion with several cationic surfactant micelles (DTAB, TTAB, CTAB, CDEAB, and CTAC) was studied by UV/Vis spectrophotometric method. The solubilization constants of phenoxide anion into the cationic micellar phase and the critical micelle concentration of these surfactants in the presence of the phenoxide anion could be determined from the absorbance changes. The measured solubilization constants were changed according to the following order: $K_s(CTAC)>K_s(CDEAB)>K_s(CTAB)>K_s(TTAB)>K_s(DTAB).$ Effects of salts(NaCl and NaBr) and n-alcohols(butanol, pentanol, and hexanol) on the solubilization of phenoxide anion by the TTAB system have been also measured and analyzed. There was a great decrease of solubilization constant and CMC with these additives. The standard Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy changes for the solubilization of phenoxide anion by the TTAB system were calculated from the temperature dependence of $K_s$ values.

  • This study used TRIZ methodology to develop a new steel stud for load bearing or non-load bearing walls. Technical contradiction of high strength with high insulation performance can be solved by TRIZ. We suppose a new shape of high-strength insulated (HSI) Stud. This study showed TRIZ can be usefully applied to the development of new construction materials by solving technical contradictions. Insulation performance of HSI stud can be improved approximately 12% compared to the standard KS stud. Although up to 3.9% of the flexural strength degradation is expected, compressive strength of HSI studs are improved from 4.1% to 8%. In conclusion, improved thermal performance and higher strength can be expected for the HSI stud developed using TRIZ.

  • HHV (Higher Heating Value) of biomass fuel is calculated by using ultimate analysis data and has been proposed by using correlation equation, and compared with the experiment the adequacy about each correlation equation with measured HHV and examined. Samples used for experiment are prepared by mixing biomass (i.e. rice husk and sawdust) with organic waste (i.e. polystyrene polypropylene and waste paper) of 10, 30, 50 wt% of composition. Ultimate analysis and measurement of HHV are respectively measured by using KS standard method. The average error value of estimated HHV results is about 880 kJ/kg(about 3.8% of measured HHV). The corresponding correlation coefficients ($R^2$) of experimental result and estimated HHV result are $0.957{\sim}0.996$.

  • This paper proposes a new classification algorithm using characteristic and structural information of printed Hanja as preliminary stages of Hanja-character recognition. Hanja is difficult for not only recognition but classification as many character and complicated structure. In this paper, to solve thie problem, extracted common subpattern in classified pattern after processing type classification fot Hanja pattern. First, we extracted subpattern, after we process preprecessing about input of character pattern, extracting directional segment, labeling on 4-directional pattern and 12 type classified using structural information based on the subpattern existing region of character pattern. Though the experiment, this study obtained that classified rate of Hanja is 93.07% on 1800 character of educational Hanja and 90.12% on 4888 character of KS C5601 standard TRIGEM LBP Hanja font and saw that as extracting subpattern at classified data was this paper possibly applied to the recognition.
