A study on the speed control of induction motor using Neural Network

  • In this paper we proposed that the speed of induction motor is controlled by a PI controller, which could control unknown motor using Neural Network for auto-tuning of the PI parameter. The parameters of the PI controller were adjusted to reduce the speed error of the controlled motor. The input parameters of the Neural Network controller are the speed, q-axis current, and speed reference of the induction motor respectively. The usefulness of proposed controller will be confirmed by simulation which we compare with conventional PI controller.

  • Korean High-Speed Train (350km/h), composed of 2 power cars, 2 motorized car and 3 trailer cars, has been developed and is under trial test. To verify the design requirements for the functions and traction performances of the train, KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute) decided to evaluate traction performances of the train during trial test. For this purpose, torque, velocity, voltage and current must be measured. KRRI has developed a measurement system that can measure vast and various signals effectively. In this paper, we introduce traction performances of Korean High-Speed Train. The traction measurement items are focused on the verification of motor block performances. Motor block consists of 2 motors. By this test, we verified traction performances of Korean High-Speed Train.

  • Recently, as the feasibility study shows that trans-Korea railway and trans-continental railway are advantageous, interest in high speed railway system is increasing. Because railway vehicle is environment-friendly and safe compared with airplane and ship, its market-sharing increases gradually. Korean High Speed Train has been developed by KRRI for last 7 years to satisfy the need.   • Recently, as the road capacity reaches a limit and environmental problems becomes serious, there exists a gradually increased need for railway vehicles that are environment-friendly, punctual, reliable and safe. Accordingly, in addition to conventional railroad vehicles, lots of vehicles are being newly developed. Korean High Speed Train has been developed for last 6 years to satisfy the need. Authors developed a measurement system for on-line test and evaluation of performances of Korean High-Speed Train. The measurement system is composed of software part and hardware part. Perfect interface between multi-users is possible. A new method to measure temperature was applied to the measurement system. By using the system, measurement and evaluation of the mechanical characteristics of motors and main transformers in Korean High Speed Train was conducted during test running. The measured results for the temperature characteristics of electric devices verify that the measurement system is accurate and reliable.

  • A propulsion system apparatus is needed for a railroad vehicle to test and estimate propulsion performance. The electrical inertia simulator to facilitate the development and testing of propulsion systems, is presented in this paper. It is based on a vector-controlled Induction motor drive supplied from the AC mains through a double PWM converter that provides desirable features such as hi-directional power folw, nearly unity power factor and low harmonic factor at the Ac mains. A theoretical analysis is first presented, followed by a detailed simulation study to assess the overall system performance under dynamic conditions.

Investigating results about the vehicle breakdown of the machinery are explained. We can know breakdown tendency of a cause place, occurrence date etc. by investigating results.

  • Due to the demand for high-output motors in the limited space between the wheels in an electric train, self-ventilating traction motors have been used for many years. periodical disassembly maintenance is necessary to remove the small quantities of dust that enter the motor from the open-air ventilation. Reducing this burden, as well as increasing efficiency and reducing noise, would benefit the next generation of moters To address these needs, KRRI is developing a fully enclosed type traction motor, a fully enclosed type traction motor with outer fans, a high-efficiency permanent-magnet synchronous motor and a direct-drive motor(DDM) as traction motors for the next generation of trains.

  • Recently, as the road capacity reaches a limit and environmental problems become serious, there exists a gradual increasing need for railway vehicles that are environment-friendly, punctual, reliable and safe. Accordingly, in addition to conventional railroad vehicles, lots of vehicles are being newly developed. Using the developed installed measurement system, the performance characteristics of railway vehicle could be monitored precisely. After recording the input real time data of each signal from railway vehicle to the network line, we could acquire the needed information through post processing program. We could verify the running performances of railway vehicle using this system. As a result, many latent defects have been found and corrected in the prototype train. The measurement systems have contributed to dramatic reduction of the developing period.

  • To improve safety operation of urban transit, compatible design of signaling system is most important factor at future train operation and management. Therefore, signaling system should be designed compatible transport demand of target year. In addition, signaling system should be designed improved train safety, based fail-safe principle. Most of all, to solve passenger concentration, high density and to improve efficiency of train operation. Headway improvement of train is most important. Train organization length of new urban transit as light rail is generally shorter than EMU. Therefore, to increase passenger service and operation efficiency, minimum headway of one minute in this system should be important required.
