This paper describes differences of performance when the orbit attitude model is applied to the respective images obtained from two different types of satellite. The one is Spot that rotates its pointing mirror and the other is Kompsat-2 that rotates its whole body when they obtain imagery for target. Our research scope is limited to the orbit-attitude model only as its good performance was proved in prior investigation. Model performances between two images were compared with sensor model accuracy and 3D coordinates calculation. The results show performances of the orbit-attitude model for each image type were different. For Spot imagery, the model required attitude angle to be included as adjustment parameters. For Kompsat-2 imagery, the model required high-order parameter for adjustment. This implies that satellite sensor model may be applied differently in accordance with platform's attitude control scheme and accuracy. Understanding of this information can be a base for improvement and development of model and application for new satellite images.
This paper investigates stereo 3D viewing for linear pushbroom satellite images using the Orbit-Attitude Model proposed by Kim (2006) and using OpenGL graphic library in Digital Photogrammetry Workstation. 3D viewing is tested with KOMPSAT-2 satellite stereo images, a large number of GCPs (Ground control points) collected by GPS surveying and orbit-attitude sensor model as a rigorous sensor model. Comparison is carried out by two accuracy measurements: the accuracy of orbit-attitude modeling with bundle adjustment and accuracy analysis of errors in x and y parallaxes. This research result will help to understand the nature of 3D objects for high resolution satellite images, and we will be able to measure accurate 3D object space coordinates in virtual or real 3D environment.

The KOMPSAT-2 MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera), with high spatial resolution, is currently under development and will be launched in the end of 2004. A sensor model relates a 3-D ground position to the corresponding 2-D image position and describes the imaging geometry that is necessary to reconstruct the physical imaging process. The Rational Function Model (RFM) has been considered as a generic sensor model. form. The RFM is technically applicable to all types of sensors such as frame, pushbroom, whiskbroom and SAR etc. With the increasing availability of the new generation imaging sensors, accurate and fast rectification of digital imagery using a generic sensor model becomes of great interest to the user community. This paper describes the procedure to generation of the RPC (Rational Polynomial Coefficients) for KOMPSAT-2 MSC.
This study refers to develop a semi-automatic extraction of agricultural land use and vegetation information using high resolution satellite images. Data of IKONOS-2 satellite images (May 25 of 2001, December 25 of 2001, and October 23 of 2003), QuickBird-2 satellite images (May 1 of 2006 and November 17 of 2004) and KOMPSAT-2 satellite image (September 17 of 2007) which resemble with the spatial resolution and spectral characteristics of KOMPSAT-3 were used. The precise agricultural land use classification was tried using ISODATA unsupervised classification technique, and the result was compared with on-screen digitizing land use accompanying with field investigation. For the extraction of crop growth information, three crops of paddy, com and red pepper were selected, and the spectral characteristics were collected during each growing period using ground spectroradiometer. The vegetation indices viz. RVI, NDVI, ARVI, and SAVI for the crops were evaluated. The evaluation process was developed using the ERDAS IMAGINE Spatial Modeler Tool.
The possibility of ship detection monitoring at operational level using KOMPSAT-5 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Automatic Identification System (AIS) data is investigated. For the analysis, the KOMPSAT-5 SLC images, which are collected from the west coast of Shinjin port and the northern coast of Jeju port are used along with portable AIS data from near the coast. The ship detection algorithm based on HVAS (Human Visual Attention System) was applied, which has significant advantages in terms of detection speed and accuracy compared to the commonly used CFAR (Constant False Alarm Rate). As a result of the integrated analysis, the ship detection from KOMPSAT-5 and AIS were generally consistent except for small vessels. Some ships detected in KOMPSAT-5 but not in AIS are due to the data absence from AIS, while it is clearly visible in KOMPSAT-5. Meanwhile, SAR imagery also has some false alarms due to ship wakes, ghost effect, and DEM error (or satellite orbit error) during object masking in land. Improving the developed ship detection algorithm and collecting reliable AIS data will contribute for building wide integrated surveillance system of marine territory at operational level.

In order to get the high resolution satellite image, MSC has TDI function in the KOMPSAT-2. So it is required to control the yaw angle of the attitude as operation concepts of KOMPSAT-2. This study was to explain the TDI function, to set up the geometric equation to satisfy the condition, and finally to determine the equation of yaw angle. The calculating program was developed and simulated with orbit and imaging attitude as input data, and the results were compared with the yaw steering values calculated in the on-board computer.
The purpose of this paper is to introduce the KOMPSAT-2 Direct Receiving and Processing System, hereafter DRS, located in Svalbard, Tromso and Toulouse. The KOMPSAT-2 from KOMPSAT-2 satellite and generating preprocessed image data that is a kind of raw image data for standard image production. The products generate from this system are comprised of 1R and 1G product upon having a geographic coordinates. In the following paragraph, it is described that DRS configuration, data processing procedure and product characteristics and then, the value-added image production test such orthoimage is introduced.
In this study, we the estimated surface normalized difference vegetation index by using the KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) multi-spectral images for comparative analysis. The estimated NDVI from KOMPSAT-3 is used as for comparison with the high resolution GeoEye products. The geometry conditions for atmospheric effects are selected from meta files of KOMPSAT-3 bundle data. The used geometry conditions are consist of solar zenith angle, solar azimuth angle, viewing zenith angle, viewing azimuth angle, and date. And, Atmospheric effects such as attenuation, scattering and absorption were physically simulated from water vapor, ozone and aerosol information. Generally, although ground measurements are important for accurate information, in this study, MODIS atmospheric products are used as atmospheric constituents. The surface reflectance from radiative transfer model is utilized for estimating vegetation index. The present study, to reduce atmospheric and geometry conditions between KOMPSAT-3 and GeoEye having difference observation characteristics, data acquisition time is carefully determined for reliable vegetation spectral characteristics.
NORAD Two Line Element (TLE) is very useful to simplify the ground station antenna pointing and mission operations. When a satellite operations facility has the capability to determine NORAD type TLE which is independent of NORAD, it is important to analyze the applicable tracking data arcs for obtaining the best possible orbit. The applicable tracking data arcs for NORAD independent TLE orbit determination of the KOMPSAT-1 using GPS navigation solutions was analyzed for the best possible orbit determination and propagation results. Data spans of the GPS navigation solutions from 1 day to 5 days were used for TLE orbit determination and the results were used as Initial orbit for SGP4 orbit propagation. The operational orbit determination results using KOMPSAT-1 Mission Analysis and Planning System(MAPS) were used as references for the comparisons. The best-matched orbit determination was obtained when 3 days of GPS navigation solutions were used. The resulting 4 days of orbit propagation results were within 2 km of the KOMPSAI-1 MAPS results.
Generally there is a technical gap for the image data quality between from the satellite requirement values and from the users. After Cal/Val for KOMPSAT-3 had been done by Dec. 31, 2012, all requirements for KOMPSAT-3 image data quality have been validated, and then the normal operation of it started from Jan. 2013. In the normal period, the image data quality for the users has been defined and managed, and according to the result of it, the additional Cal/Val items have been doing. Cal/Val team and Processing team in KARI made the quality report (QR) for KOMPSAT-3 image data quality for the users, and have determined the quality level of KOMPSAT-3 product generated by Processing system (PMS; Product Management System) and managed the quality report for it. According to the result of the quality report, Cal/Val team defined six additional Cal/Val items, and has done five items of them and has been implementing the result of them into the Processing system.
