  • Telescope structure based on Korsch type optical layout was suggested for a large aperture optical system. Korsch type optical layout is regarded as providing wide field of view and no color aberration for which high resolution space cameras greatly demand. For the suggested Korsch type telescope structure, two folding mirrors are adopted, firstly to provide for the refocusing device mounting plane on the second fold mirror assembly, secondly by double folding the light path to concisely confine focal plane assembly within the perimeter of the tube. Optical layput design and corresponding support structure design were attained.

  • The KOrea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) provides 0.7 m Ground Sample Distance (GSD) panchromatic image and 2.8 m GSD multi-spectral image data for various applications. The KOMPSAT-3 system data will be applied in the field of earth observations, covering land, sea, coastal zones, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). In order to keep the swath width of 15km at nadir view of KOMPSAT-3, CCD consist of approximately 24,020 pixels excluding 20 dark pixels at both sides and has overlap region. Because there are no CCD-line sensors with a pixel size of $7{\mu}m$, the field of view is separated into 2 parts and imaged on 2 detectors, each with 12,080 pixels. Therefore, 2 detectors have different geometric characteristic. This paper provides image simulation for geometric characteristics analysis of overlapping area of KOMPSAT-3 using KOMPSAT-2 image data.

  • In this study, the orbit-based sensor modeling is applied to the digital plotting and the accuracy of digital plotting is analyzed. The KOMPSAT-2 satellite image with orbit-attitude model is used for the analysis. The precise sensor modeling with various combination of parameters is performed for the stereo satellite image. In addition, we analyze the error range of ground control points by applying the result of stereo modeling to digital survey system. According to the result, it is possible to produce digital map using stereo image with a small number of GCPs when the orbit-based sensor modeling for KOMPSAT-2 is applied. This means that it is suitable for the generation of digital map on a scale of 1/5,000 to 1/25,000 considering the resolution of KOMPSAT-2 image.

  • In order to produce crop information using remote sensing, we use classification and growth monitoring based on crop phenology. Therefore, time-series satellite images with a short period are required. However, there are limitations to acquiring time-series satellite data, so it is necessary to use fusion with other earth observation satellites. Before fusion of various satellite image data, it is necessary to overcome the inherent difference in radiometric characteristics of satellites. This study performed Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) cross calibration with Landsat-8 as the first step for fusion. Top of Atmosphere (TOA) Reflectance was compared by applying Spectral Band Adjustment Factor (SBAF) to each satellite using hyperspectral sensor band aggregation. As a result of cross calibration, KOMPSAT-3 and Landsat-8 satellites showed a difference in reflectance of less than 4% in Blue, Green, and Red bands, and 6% in NIR bands. KOMPSAT-3, without on-board calibrator, idicate lower radiometric stability compared to ladnsat-8. In the future, efforts are needed to produce normalized reflectance data through BRDF (Bidirectional reflectance distribution function) correction and SBAF application for spectral characteristics of agricultural land.

  • In Remote Sensing, a machine learning based SVM model is typically utilized for land cover classification. And study using neural network models is also being carried out continuously. But study using high-resolution imagery of KOMPSAT is insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the accuracy of land cover classification by neural network models using high-resolution KOMPSAT-3 satellite imagery. After acquiring satellite imagery of coastal areas near Gyeongju City, training data were produced. And land cover was classified with the SVM, ANN and DNN models for the three items of water, vegetation and land. Then, the accuracy of the classification results was quantitatively assessed through error matrix: the result using DNN model showed the best with 92.0% accuracy. It is necessary to supplement the training data through future multi-temporal satellite imagery, and to carry out classifications for various items.

  • GF (Guided Filtering) is a representative image processing technique to effectively remove noise while preserving edge information in the digital image. In this paper, we proposed a unsupervised change detection method for the KOMPSAT-3 satellite image using the GF and evaluated its performance. In order to utilize GF for the unsupervised change detection, cross-sharpened images were generated based on GF, and CVA (Change Vector Analysis) was applied to the generated cross-sharpened images to extract the changed area in the multitemporal satellite imagery. Experimental results using KOMPSAT-3 satellite images showed that the proposed method can be effectively used to detect changed regions compared with CVA results based on existing cross-sharpened images.

  • Urban land cover classification is role in urban planning and management. So, it's important to improve classification accuracy on urban location. In this paper, machine learning model, Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) are proposed for urban land cover classification based on high resolution satellite imagery (KOMPSAT-3A). Satellite image was trained based on 25 m rectangle grid to create training data, and training models used for classifying test area. During the validation process, we presented confusion matrix for each result with 250 Ground Truth Points (GTP). Of the four SVM kernels and the two activation functions ANN, the SVM Polynomial kernel model had the highest accuracy of 86%. In the process of comparing the SVM and ANN using GTP, the SVM model was more effective than the ANN model for KOMPSAT-3A classification. Among the four classes (building, road, vegetation, and bare-soil), building class showed the lowest classification accuracy due to the shadow caused by the high rise building.

  • Images taken with KOMPSAT-3 have additional NIR and PAN bands, as well as RGB regions of the visible ray band, compared to imagestaken with a standard camera. Furthermore, electrical and optical properties must be considered because a wide radius area of approximately 17 km or more is photographed at an altitude of 685 km above the ground. In other words, the camera sensor of KOMPSAT-3 is distorted by each CCD pixel, characteristics of each band, sensitivity and time-dependent change, CCD geometry. In order to solve the distortion, correction of the sensors is essential. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting uniform regions in side-slider-based KOMPSAT-3 images using segment-based noise analysis. After detecting a uniform area with the corresponding algorithm, a correction table was created for each sensor to apply the non-uniformity correction algorithm, and satellite image correction was performed using the created correction table. As a result, the proposed method reduced the distortion of the satellite image, such as vertical noise, compared to the conventional method. The relative radiation accuracy index, which is an index based on mean square error (RA) and an index based on absolute error (RE), wasfound to have a comparative advantage of 0.3 percent and 0.15 percent, respectively, over the conventional method.
