An Experiment on the Culture of Laver, Porphgra tenera, on the 'Sae-ol-bal' (triple-knotted blind) Laver Bed (세올발에 의한 김 양식시험)

  • An experiment on the culture of laver, Porphyra tenera, was carried out from September 26, 1965 to February 12, 1966 at a laver farm on the coast of Gae-do, Hwacheong-myeon, Yeocheon-gun, Jeonranam-do, using 'Sae-ol-bal' (triple-knotted blind) laver bed, resulting in the following data: 1. 'Sae-ol-bal' laver, bed was less destroyed compared to ordinary (dual knotted blind) laver bed, the destruction rate being $9.8\%$ in 'Sae-ol-bal' laver bed, while $35.3\%$ in ordinary laver bed (Table 5). 2. The quantity of laver yield is the greatest on the edge-part, the next on the basal part, and the smallest on the middle part of the 'Sae-ol-bal' laver bed (Table 6, Figs. $7\~8$). 3. The ordinary laver bed may yield better harvest on the calm farm but 'Sae-ol-bal' laver bed yields better harvest at a farm where the destruction of bed is remarkable by wind and wave action.

A Study on the Purse Seine Comparison of Sinking Speed and Tension of Purse Line in Two Nets , Made of Knotted Webbing and Raschel Webbing (건착망의 연구 - 사절망과 라셀망의 심항력과 장력의 비교 -)

  • The authors carried out a model experiment to compare the sinking speed and the tension of the purse line in two nets, made of knotted webbing (Model A) and Raschel webbing (Model B). The model net was made in 1/450 scale of the actual net being commercially used in the Korean coastal waters for mackerel. The headline of the model net is 200cm and the maximum height 50cm. The weight of the sinker in water was changed 4g and its multiplication till 20g. The results obtained are as follows: 1. Sinking speed of the model A was faster 1. 4 to 1. 8 times than that of model B. 2. Tension of the purse line of the model A was 10 to 20 percent less than that of model B.

Deformation and flow resistance characteristics of model net cages according to shapes and arrangements of sinkers (발돌의 형상 및 배치 방법의 변화에 따른 모형 가두리 그물의 변형 및 유수저항 특성)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the optimal shapes and arrangements of sinkers attached to net cages to prevent their deformation in a current. A series of model experiments were conducted in a circulating water channel, using 5 different types of sinker(high-weighted ball, low-weighted ball, columntype, egg-shaped and iron bar-framed) and 2 types of square net cage constructed from both Nylon Raschel netting and Nylon knotted netting, on a 1/20th scale. The deflection of the model nets against the flow was smallest with the iron bar-framed weight compared to the other four types of sinker. It was expected that the optimal shapes of sinkers would be either the ball or egg-shape; however, iron bar-framed weight actually had larger drag forces. The dispersed deployment of sinkers on the bottom frames of model net cages performed better with relatively slow flows, while the concentrated deployment at 4 corners functioned better with relatively fast flows, in preventing the nets from becoming severely deformed. The deformation of the net cages was larger for the Nylon knotted netting than the Nylon Raschel netting. With respect to flow resistance, the Nylon Raschel netting, rather than the Nylon knotted netting, was more suitable for construction of net cages.

  • In order to analysis the tensile properties of the high-tech fibers for fishing gear materials. tensile strength was tested on raw materials, single yarns and netting twines(plied yarns)made of nylon, kevlar 29 and techmilon respectively. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The tensile stress and tenacity of unknotted single yarns in dry and wet conditions were 3 to 3.5 times greater in the high-tech fibers than in nylon. But the elongation of the high-tech fibers was about 15% of that in nylon. 2. The tensile strength of knotted single yarns in dry and wet conditions was arranged in order of as follows : techmilon. kelver 29, and nylon. The ratio of knot strength to tensile strength, knot efficiency, was the highest in nylon. 3. The tensile strength of unknotted netting twines in dry and wet conditions was 2.3 to 2.5 times greater in the high-tech fibers than in nylon. 4. The tensile strength of knotted netting twines in dry and wet conditions was arranged in order of as follows : techmilon, kevlar 29, nylon. The knot efficiency was the highest in nylon.

Experimental Evidence of the Mobility of Hydroperoxyl/Superoxide Anion Radicals from the Illuminated TiO2 Interface into the Aqueous Phase

  • The understanding of behaviors of hydroperoxyl/superoxide anion radicals (${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$) generated from a photoirradiated $TiO_2$ surface is essential to improve the efficiency of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reactions by decreasing the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole ($e^--h^+$) pairs. In contrast with previous studies, we found that ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ generated on the surface of illuminated $TiO_2$ particles are mobile. ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ formed by the photocatalysis of $TiO_2$ particles immobilized onto the inner surface of a coil-quartz tube were forced under a continuous flow through a knotted tubing reactor (KTR) and into the aqueous phase completely separated from the $TiO_2$ particles, and were measured by a chemiluminescence (CL) technique using 2-methyl-6-(p-methoxyphenyl)-3,7-dihydroimidazo[ 1,2-a]pyrazin-3-one (MCLA) as the reagent. The initial concentration of the ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$ stream entering the KTR was determined by its half-life (98 s) at pH 5.8. We suggests that the efficiency of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic reactions may be further improved by utilizing the mobility of ${H_2O_2}^./{O_2}^{-.}$.

Central Asian Carpets, Assyrian Stone Thresholds, and Greco-Roman Mosaics - Cultural Exchange and Integration on the Silk Road

  • Many knotted carpets from western China and Central Asia from 700 BCE to 700 CE demonstrate strong resemblances to the Assyrian-Persian stone reliefs and Hellenistic-Romanmosaics. Egypt reveals the earliest samples in plain linen fiber and carpets with colorful designs in the mural paintings. The Egyptian wall decoration in faience shows the motifs of waterlily in two variations in the design, both of which appear in the Assyrian floor thresholds designs. The same waterlily or four-petal design in the Egyptian and Assyrian stonework also appear in the Pazyryk knotted carpet in the same manner. The Assyrian thresholds show a composition with a central area and borders in a square or rectangular overall design, which again parallels the Pazyryk carpet. The ideas of composition and motifs commonly seen in the Hellenistic and Roman mosaics appear in the carpets of Central Asia and western China. The similarities between the stone mosaic works and carpets demonstrate clearly that the remote places and peoples in ancient times learned from, and exchanged with, each other the ideas and artistic styles, and integrated to create some local artistic traditions, thanks to the roles the easy-to-carry textiles played throughout the Silk Road. The carpets played their roles: as practical material for daily use, and as carrier of cultural information through their designs.

Removal of Microfat Graft in Lower Eyelid with Transconjunctival Approach (결막절개를 제거통한 아래 눈꺼풀 부위의 미세자가지방이식편의)

  • Purpose: Microfat graft is a common procedure for correcting tear trough deformity and dark circle. Because the tissue in this area is very thin, the grafted fat, sometimes, induces palpable lumps and uneven skin contour. When it happens, the surgical removal of the grafted fat is often needed. The authors made attempt of transconjunctival approach for removal, and this made infraorbital fat repositioning possible at the same time. Methods: 15 female patients with history of microfat graft on lower eyelid, got operation for the grafted fat removal with transconjunctival approach from April of 2009 to July of 2010. The dissection was performed in accordance with infraorbital fat repositioning surgery. Through the transconjunctival incision, knotted fat on orbital septum and orbicularis oculi muscle was removed without damage on skin. After grafted fat removal, subperiosteal space was made 1~2 mm below the inferior orbital rim by elevating periosteum. With preserving orbital septum, infraorbital fat was repositioned and anchored to subperiosteal space. Finally, transconjunctival incision was closed with absorbable suture material. Results: 14 patients in the study showed satisfactory results. The problems like uneven skin contour and knotted fat mass, were all solved. In only one patient, incomplete correction was observed, as bulging on her right lower eyelid still remained. One patient complained of transient numbness on lower eyelid, but there was no specific complication other than this. Conclusion: The authors attempted the method of transconjunctival approach to remove former grafted fat in lower eyelid and reposition infraorbital fat simultaneously. Since the study brought great results, the method would be helpful to patients and surgeons.

  • through a literal study upon Arrhythmia between east and west medicine, the results were as follows 1. Arrhythmia is not only irregular cardiac beat but disorder of cardiac impulse making and conduction disturbance. it means almost irregularity of interval between two beat 2. In the east medicine, arrhythmia is represented various category as palpitation, continuous palpitation, dizziness, consumption which give the first consideration by the accompanied symptoms. A separate way in a diagnostics it become a base of diagnosis of diseases and decision of prognosis by the examination of pulse 3. In the west medicine, Arrhythmia is classified as disorder of heart rate, rhythm, conduction disturbance or tachycardia, bradycardia and it is concomitant with fatigue, palpitation, dyspnoea, syncope, chest discomfort 4. The diagnostic study of pulse condition which represent arrhythmia was started from $\mathbb{<}$Nae-Kyung$\mathbb{>}$ and it was revealed as pulse condition of rapid pulse, slow pulse, swift pulse, running pulse, knotted pulse, intermittent pulse etc. Out of them running pulse, knotted pulse, intermittent pulse which obviously are concomitant with irregularity of interval are clinically meaningful in a conditions of disease and decision of prognosis. and the significance of these pulse condition are transformed through the changes of the times 5. According to cause of disease it is classified by Arrhythmia(running pulse, knotted pulse, intermittent pulse) due to heat, cold, phlegm, deficiency(or insufficiency) and There are three categories of etiological factor that is, endogenous, exogenous and non-exo-endogenous factor. the endogenous factor is insufficiency of the heart Ki, deficiency of both Ki and blood, intemal stagnation of phlegm and fluid, stagnation of seven emotions. the exogenous factor is caused by stagnation of Ki and blood by six exogenous pathogenic factor and the non-exo-endgenous factors are improper diet, overstrain, traumatic injury. A cause of arrhythmia in western medicine are a organic and pathological change of the heart itself and malfunction of the autonomic nervous system.

  • Objective: The ECG which used for this paper, is analysis result from alogrisms of arrythmia, and we have studied that how we could certain Cold(寒)type or Heat(熱) type and that Deficiency(虛) type or Excess(實)type of organs from various special diseases, and we obtained like these results. Method & Conclusion: 1. we depend on our examination about Pulse(脈) because we can't discriminate arrythmia using ECG analysis instruments. 2. We obtained that Cold(寒) type diseases had wave that prolonged above normal baseline and ST wave which had downward aptitude. 3. We obtained that Heat(熱) type diseases had the fibrillation which had shortend wave that compare to normal and had downward aptitude or negative aptitude. 4. We obtained that Respiratory system (肺) diseases had wave that is within normal or is short of normal range and had much fluctuation in potential difference or trans on P wave. 5. The character of EKG which presented about diseases of gastric systems is prolonged above narmal range of wave, and the ECG had represented mixed wave with Heat(熱) type when accompany inflammatory in gastric system. 6. The wave of Blood Stasis(瘀血) type had upward aptitude of QRS wave, and the wave of anemia or blood loss type(少血) had downward aptitude of QRS wave, the wave which had both Cold(寒)) and Heat (熱) represented mixed waves. 7. The Knotted Pulse(結脈) and Intermittent Pulse(代脈)is corresponded with sinus brady cardia, and the Swift Pulsle(疾脈) is corresponded with fibrillation. 8. We pay attention to the relations of formations about pressures pulse from formations of EMD( electromechanical dissociation ). Result : From these results, we will have to study about ECG which using in tests of change of Parkinsons disease.

  • The complications associated with the use of pulmonary artery catheter include dysrhythmias, heart block, pulmonary artery rupture, pulmonary infarction, endocardial damage, balloon rupture, arterial puncture, thromboembolism, air embolism, infection, pneumothorax, and knotting of the catheter. Knotting of the catheter is a rare complication and it should be anticipated if there is an excessive advancement of the pulmonary artery catheter beyond the normally expected distance. We report a successful surgical removal of knotted pulmonary artery catheter by sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass.
