  • In this paper we present a new family of distributions that allows a continuous variation not only from normality to non-normality but also from unimodality to bimodality. Its properties are especially useful in studying and making inferences about models involving the univariate truncated normal distribution. The properties of the family and its applications are given.

  • Greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as carbon dioxide ($CO_2$), methane (CH$_4$), nitrous oxide ($N_2$O), chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), sulphur hexafluoride (SF$_{6}$), together with water vapour ($H_2O$) and ozone play an important role in determining the earth's climate. The primary cause of the enhancement of GHGs is the global use of fossil fuels to generate heat, power, and electricity for a growing world population, as well as the changes in the land use, especially for agriculture. In addition, biomass buring and biofuel emissions play major roles in the GHG emissions in the Asian region because they produce large amounts of carbon monoxide (CO), nonmethane volatile organic compounds(NMVOC), black carbon(BC) and other gases.   • Korean aviation Turbulenc Guidance (KTG) system is developed using the operational unified model (UM) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and pilot reports (PIREPs) over East Asia. The KTG system comprised of twenty turbulence diagnostics that represent various turbulence potentials and have the best forecasting skills, which are combined into a single ensemble-averaged index, namely KTG, at upper-(above FL250) and mid-(below FL250) levels. It is found that the overall performance of the KTG is higher than those produced from the one single best index, and satisfies the minimum criteria (80% accuracy) that the system is operationally useful in aviation industry.

  • Clouds are an important factor in aircraft flight. In particular, a significant impact on small aircraft flying at low altitude. Therefore, we have verified and characterized the low level cloud prediction data of the Unified Model(UM) - based Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System(LDAPS) operated by KMA in order to develop cloud forecasting service and contents important for safety of low-altitude aircraft flight. As a result of the low level cloud test for seven airports in Korea, a high correlation coefficient of 0.4 ~ 0.7 was obtained for 0-36 leading time. Also, we found that the prediction performance does not decrease as the lead time increases. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that model-based forecasting data for low-altitude aviation meteorology services can be produced.

  • In this paper, general design process for Tracked Fighting Vehicle has been suggested. Stress analysis and optimal design for ply angle of IFV's composite upper hull has been calculated using KMA CIFV and it is contained exploratory development of design process. In this point, this paper applied composite to IFV's upper hull. Finite element mesh has been made using Matlab program, and we have analyzed stress based on the given material properties and ply arrangement. For each load condition, load distribution in plane and failure index are calculated by using Tasi-Hill criterion, which is composite failure criterion and analyzing change of failure index as change of ply angle. Finally, optimal ply angles of upper hull are calculated using KMA CIFV. We can estimate the decrease of weight for IFV's upper hull.

  • Future Combat System(FCS), such as unmanned systems that reduce the danger faced by soldiers in the field, are likely to be studied and developed. Soldiers when finding and disposing of mines risk injury and death. Several methods of safe mine retrieval are investigated. In this paper, a mine removal method, which uses a remote controlled robot to get rid of mines using a 4 channel architecture teleoperation method is used. The robot, when in contact with soil and mines, is controlled by a remote control. The feasibility of using teleoperation controlled system to remove mines is demonstrated in this paper. The Matlab-Simulink was used as a tool to simulate mine removal with robots. The force and position of the robot{slave system of 4 channel architecture) and controller(master system of 4 channel architecture) are analyzed when users handle the controller with sinusoidal force.

Estimation of b-value for Earthquakes Data Recorded on KSRS (KSRS 관측자료에 의한 b-값 평가)

  • The b-value in the magnitude-frequency relationship logN(m) = $\alpha$ - bmwhere N(m) is the number of earthquakes exceeding magnitude m, is important seismicity parameter In hazard analysis. Estimation of the b-value for earthquake data observed on KSRS array network is done employing the maximum likelihood technique. Assuming the whole Korea Peninsula as a single seismic source area, the b-value is computed at 0.9. The estimation for KMA earthquake data is also similar to that. Since estimate is a function of minimum magnitude, we can inspect the completeness of earthquake catalog in the fitting process of b-value. KSRS and KMA data lists are probably incomplete for magnitudes less than 2.0 and 3.0, respectively. Examples from probabilistic seismic hazard assessment calculated for a range of b-value show that the small change of b-value has seriously effect on the prediction of ground motion.

  • This paper made short-term electric load forecasting by using temperature data at three-hour intervals (9am, 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm) provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). In addition, the electric power pattern was created using existing electric power data, and temperature sensitivity was derived using temperature and electric power data. We made power load forecasting program using LabVIEW, a graphic language.

  • 최근 기후변화에 의한 가뭄과 홍수의 발생빈도가 증가하고 있는 추세이며 기후변화에 의한 재해는 국민 생활에 직접적인 영향을 미칠 수 있어 전 세계 여러 나라에서는 기후변화에 대한 연구를 활발하게 진행하고 있는 실정이다. 특히 도시유역의 경우 인구와 재산이 밀집해 있기 때문에 기후변화에 의한 수자원의 영향평가나 극한홍수 등의 자연재해에 대비한 홍수방어 적응대책에 대한 연구가 절실히 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 도시유역을 중심으로 KMA RCM의 기후변화 시나리오 분석을 통한 미래 확률강수량을 분석하는 시나리오적 방법과 과거 강수 특성과 경향성을 분석하여 비정상성 빈도해석을 통한 미래 확률강수량을 분석하는 비시나리오적 방법을 통한 도시유역의 기후변화 영향을 고려한 확률강수량을 산정하고자 한다. 또한 향후 발생할 수 있는 강우의 불확실성 분석을 통한 미래확률강수량 산정을 실시하고 도시유역의 IDF곡선을 제시함 으로써 기후변화영향을 고려한 도시유역의 수자원 및 물 수요 관리와 제도개선에 활용하고자 한다.
