  • The security of all cryptographic algorithms and protocols is based on the confidentiality of secret keys. Key management mechanism is an indispensable part of the cryptographic system and this deals with the generation, exchange, storage, use, and replacement of keys. Within the key management mechanism there are key derivation functions (KDFs) which derive one or more keys from a master key. NIST specifies three families of PRF-based KDFs in SP 800-108. In this paper, we examine the difference of security models between the KDFs and the encryption modes of operations. Moreover we focus on the provable security of PRF-based KDFs according to input types of counters, and show that the counter and feedback modes of KDFs using XOR of counters are insecure, while these modes using concatenation of counters are secure.

  • The fluorescence intensity of khellin-dimethylfumarate C$_4$-cycloadduct (KDF) is very sensitive to temperature and to the nature of solvents, especially hydrogen-bonding ability. The fluorescence quantum yields of KDF in ethanol and isopentane at 77K are 0.73 and 0.54, respectively, both of which are much larger than the room temperature values. The phosphorescence lifetime is very long and decreases with decreasing the solvent polarity. The phosphorescence and fluorescence quantum yield ratio is very small and decreases with decreasing solvent polarity. The solvent relaxation plays an important role in the excited states of KDF. The internal conversion is a major decay process of the excited singlet state of KDF in all the solvents used at room temperature.

  • Storm and flood such as torrential rains and major typhoons has often caused damages on a large scale in Korea and damages from storm and flood have been increasing by climate change and warming. Therefore, it is an essential work to maneuver preemptively against risks and damages from storm and flood by predicting the possibility and scale of the disaster. Generally the research on numerical model based on statistical methods, the KDF model of TCDIS developed by NIDP, for analyzing and predicting disaster risks and damages has been mainstreamed. In this paper, we introduced the model for prediction of damage cost from storm and flood by the neural network algorithm which outstandingly implements the pattern recognition. Also, we compared the performance of the neural network model with that of KDF model of TCDIS. We come to the conclusion that the robustness and accuracy of prediction of damage cost on TCDIS will increase by adapting the neural network model rather than the KDF model.

  • Creating different cutout shapes in order to make doors and windows, reduce the structural weight or implement various mechanisms increases the likelihood of buckling in thin-walled structures. In this study, the effect of cutout shape and geometric imperfection (GI) is simultaneously investigated on the critical buckling load and knock-down factor (KDF) of composite cylindrical shells. The GI is modeled using single perturbation load approach (SPLA). First, in order to assess the finite element model, the critical buckling load of a composite shell without cutout obtained by SPLA is compared with the experimental results available in the literature. Then, the effect of different shapes of cutout such as circular, elliptic and square, and perturbation load imperfection (PLI) is investigated on the buckling behavior of cylindrical shells. Results show that the critical buckling load of a shell without cutout decreases by increasing the PLI, whereas increasing the PLI does not have a great impact on the critical buckling load in the presence of cutout imperfection. Increasing the cutout area reduces the effect of the PLI, which results in an increase in the KDF.

  • The photophysical and photochemical properties of khellin were compared with those of 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP). Quantum yields of fluorescence and triplet formation decreases as solvent polarity increases, which is opposite to 8-MOP, and photocycloadditivity of khellin to olefins is much lower than that of 8-MOP. Electron ejection from khellin by laser flash was not observed, but observed from 8-MOP. As models of 4',5'-monoadducts of khellin or 8-MOP with thymine base, khellin<>dimethylfumarate 4',5'-monoadduct (KDF) was also compared with 8-MOP<>thymidine 4',5'-monoadduct (F-2) in those properties to give some insight on the second-step biadduct formation resulting in cross-links of DNA duplex. KDF and F-2 were very similar to khellin and 8-MOP in photophysical properties, respectively. However, KDF did not form adducts with various olefins, and thus it is thought that 2,3-double bond of chromone moiety in khellin is hardly reactive in contrast with 3,4-double bond of coumarin moiety in 8-MOP. These results indicate that khellin is fairly photostable compound, a poor type Ⅰ photodynamic sensitizer and producer of ${O_2}^{-}$ which is some cause of phototoxic erythemal reactions and undesirable side effects. Therefore khellin is safer to use than 8-MOP in photochemotherapy of some skin diseases. Although khellin is much less reactive than 8-MOP, khellin must be also a monofunctional drug. Since khellin is, however, as effective as 8-MOP in photochemotherapy of some skin diseases, it is suggested that khellin may be different from 8-MOP in the action mechanism.

  • Internet of Thing (IoT) and NFC (Near Field Communication) have got a good adaptable structure that it can be easily combined with any wireless network. Since IoT/NFC can be used to communicate wirelessly with all the transactions that can be done remotely without any physical connections. In this paper, we propose an enhanced secure IoT/NFC protocol based on LTE network that enhances the original security level provided by the LTE. Our approach is new in a sense that it covers LTE in contrast to old networks like GSM and 3G, which substantially treated in the literature. Moreover, both GSM and 3G have several drawbacks when they are combined with the NFC technology, which has potential weakness in confidentiality, integrity, and authentication. Hence our new approach will resolve the security of the new LTE system. We expect that our protocol will result in new secure applications for the smart phone markets.

  • For a secure communication system, it is necessary to use secure cryptographic algorithms and keys. Modern cryptographic system generates high entropy encryption key through standard key derivation functions. Using recent progress in quantum key distribution(QKD) based on quantum physics, it is expected that we can enhance the security of modern cryptosystem. In this respect, the study on the dual key agreement is required, which combines quantum and modern cryptography. In this paper, we propose two key derivation functions using dual key agreement based on QKD and RSA cryptographic system. Furthermore, we demonstrate several simulations that estimate entropy of derived key so as to support the design rationale of our key derivation functions.
