  • In this paper, we propose an improved curvature-based GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) isosurface ray-casting technique. Our method adopts the fast evaluation method proposed by Sigg et al. [1] to find the isosurface, but replaces the computation of the gradient and Hessian with the de Boor algorithm. In this way, we can reduce the number of additional texture fetches from 84 to 27 thus improving the performance by up to ${\approx}30%$, depending on the platforms.

  • In this paper, we present a non-photorealistic rendering technique that automatically delivers a stylized abstraction of a photograph with DoF(Depth of field). Our approach is a new filtering method that efficiently classifies DoF regions using RGB channels and automatically adjusts the color abstraction and extracted line quality based on this classification. This DoF-based filtering is simple, fast, and easy to implement and significantly improves the abstraction performance in terms of feature enhancement and stylization.

  • Direct Volume Rendering(DVR) renders by projecting data into a two-dimensional space without calculating the volume surfaces. In DVR, the transfer function(TF) assigns light properties such as color and transparency to the volume. However, it takes a long time for beginners to manipulate TF to understand volume data and assign colors. This paper proposes an approach to colorize the volume using sample images for intuitive volume rendering. We also discuss color extraction methods using K-means clustering.

  • Unity is a powerful game engine that can be used to create 2D or 3D content. The current study focuses on the use of Unity for 3D computer animations, covering the strengths, basic concepts and tools for creating and integrating 3D animations in Unity, including the use of keyframe animation, animation controllers, and blend trees. Also covering advanced topics such as skeletal animation, procedural animation and their applications in games, simulations, and other interactive media. Case studies that showcase the potential of Unity for 3D animation will be analyzed and discussed taking in the quality of visuals and the receptance by the public in general.

  • This paper investigates effective methods for implementing motion matching, which is actively used in real-time motion generation applications. The success of motion matching heavily hinges on its simple definition of a feature vector, yet this very definition can introduce significant variance in the outcomes. Our research focuses on identifying the optimal combination of feature vectors that effectively generates desired trajectories in locomotion generation. To this end, we experimented with a range of feature vector combinations and performed an in-depth error analysis to evaluate the results.

  • Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management may be one of the recent hot topics in corporate management. The purpose of this paper was to study the level of ESG activities of shipping companies. The shipping industry is known to have low transparency and low favorability (Yun, 2022). This study determined whether ESG activities of shipping companies known to the public or studied qualitatively were consistent with objective facts through quantitative analysis. Analysis was conducted on 8,009 firm-year KOSP I listed companies from 2010 to 2022 using ESG ratings evaluated and published by KCGS. As a result of the analysis, it was found that shipping companies had a lower level of ESG activities than non-shipping companies. Although many research studies have been done on companies' ESG activities, research on corporate social responsibility activities and ESG activities of domestic shipping companies is limited. This paper is significant in that it is the first study to quantitatively analyze ESG management status of domestic shipping companies. Shipping companies should make efforts to improve their images, improve their business performances, and increase corporate sustainability by taking the lead in proactive ESG activities rather than performing passive ESG activities due to external regulations such as IMO 2020 and IMO 2050.

  • Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) has been used for a several decades. However, we are not aware any studies that used a smart-phone based virtual reality techniques. In this study, we suggested a new smart-phone based VRET that included photorealistic techniques. We also evaluated the current system with 32 healthy participants, and results suggested that the current system evoked different emotional valences in indoor/outdoor and familiar/unfamiliar environments. The meaning of current results and potential applications of VRET were discussed.

  • In this paper, we present a method for removing shadows from scanned documents. Compared to the existing methods such as one based on image pyramid representation or adaptive thresholding, our method produces more robust and higher quality results. The basic idea of the approach is to use the local image statistics and to separate interesting regions from the image such as the regions around letters and figures. For the separated regions, we adaptively adjust the local brightness and contrast, and apply the sigmoid function to the intensity values as well to enhance the clarity of the image. For separated the other empty regions, we apply the gradient-base image hole filling method to fill the region with smooth color change.

  • In this paper, we propose an improved surface reconstruction method from an oriented point cloud. Our method is a classical least-square scheme, but is based on the 7-direction box-spline and the BCC (Body-Centered Cubic) lattice, which results in surfaces with superior quality and lower computational overhead, compared to other methods based on the B-splines on the Cartesian lattice. Specifically, when compared with two of the most popular techniques our method results in better surfaces but only takes ${\approx}53%$ computation time.

  • This paper proposes an automatic hexahedral mesh generation method, in which internal medial surfaces are established to partition a region using the face-offsetting method. In order to test the usability of the suggested method, aspect ratios and Jacobians of the generated mesh for two models are evaluated and compared with ones from existing methods. It is verified that the proposed medial surface generation and partitioning scheme based on the face-offsetting method can be effectively used in the automatic hexahedral mesh generation procedure.
