  • PURPOSES: Regional offices of the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs use a computerized system called KAMIS so as to manage road equipment systematically. Road agencies can record number of operating days by equipment, actual working hours, accumulated operating hours (or distance) by equipment, and operating cost. However, KAMIS does not provide critical information, although it is strongly related to efficient road management equipment operation. In other words, road agencies do not know whether they have sufficient equipment to handle their actual work. METHODS: Therefore, this study suggests a methodology to evaluate for operational efficiency of road management equipment using analytical hierarchy process(AHP). First of all, estimated weights related criteria can be produced by AHP, and then use operational history by pieces of equipment. RESULTS: Results show that importance of management work can differ from weather conditions through five areas. CONCLUSIONS: Commonly, this results can imply to help save money for the purchase and maintenance of road management equipment, and they would improve the functional performance of KAMIS.

  • PURPOSES: This study provides a methodology for estimating proper number of equipment for ordinary road management works. METHODS: Utilizing a computerized data of record systems (KAMIS) in 18 regional offices, two evaluation indicators were calculated and then normalized for objective comparison. Applied magnifying factor to the outputs, the proper number of equipment can be estimated. RESULTS: As a result, proper number of equipment by regional offices were required 28% more than current conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Using the proposed a methodology, fundamental data for scientific and reasonable strategies can be stored as well as be used for the future plan for budget allocation.

  • Many Koreans have the question about the price of food: whether the price of Korean food is reasonable or not? Even though some previous studies tried to discuss and analyze the price system of Korean food, few papers clearly present the implication about production cost or marketing margin of processing food. The purpose of this paper is to measure and analyze the production cost and marketing margin of tofu and kimchi, which are one of the main food in Korea, through the raw-data of FIS, KAMIS, and other data from Korean business area. The results of studies present a few findings as follows: First, the proportion of labor cost in the production cost is very important factor and need to be decreased for the lower consumer price. Especially, the lower proportion of labor cost in kimchi industry should be important issue, even though the reduction of proportion of labor cost in kimchi industry is not easy in the real world. Second, each marketing channel of processed food shows different marketing margin. Therefore, Korean government need to increase the level of competition of marketing channels, which makes each business is forced to decrease the marketing margin to survive the market competition in Korea.

  • Squid is a popular seafood in Korea. However, since the 2000s, the squid production has been declining. The unstable supply of the squid products may cause price fluctuations of fresh and chilled squid. These price fluctuations may be relatively more severe than them of other commodities, because the fresh and chilled squid can not be stored for a long period of time. Thus, this study analyzes the structural characteristics of price volatility and price asymmetry of fresh squid based on off-diagonal GARCH model. Data used to analysis of this study are daily wholesale and retail prices of fresh squid from January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2016 provided in the KAMIS. As theoretical approaches of this study, first of all, the stability of the time series is confirmed by the unit root test. Secondly, the causality between distribution channels is checked by the Granger causality test. Thirdly, the VAR model and the off-diagonal GARCH model are adopted to estimate asymmetry effect and price volatility spillover between distribution channels. Finally, the stability of the model is confirmed by multivariate Q-statistic and ARCH-LM test. In conclusion, fresh squid is found to have shock and volatility spillover between wholesale and retail prices as well as its own price. Also, volatility asymmetry effect is shown in own wholesale or retail price of fresh squid. Finally, this study shows that the decrease in the fresh squid retail price of t-1 period than the increase in the t-1 period has a greater impact on the volatility of the fresh squid wholesale price in t period.
