Architects' Professional Alliance with the Furniture Design Industry in Interwar America - As Reflected in Public Exhibitions -

  • The professional alliance between disciplines of architecture and furniture design in the interwar years as displayed in the prominent architectural exhibitions of the era is interesting in the context of professionalization of American architecture. The way furniture design gradually became part of the architectural shows not only reflected but provided the practical field in which the architectural institution sought, under the new social order since the mid 1910s, a new professional cast-departing from the former milieu in the realm of high-art by the Beaux-Arts Movement. Exhibitions held by the Architectural League of New York in the 1920s revealed that the early impetus for reformation toward efficiency had been subsumed by the system of Beaux-Arts. By contrast, "The Architect and the Industrial Arts" show of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in which the most prominent architects of the era exercised their professional expertise in the design of "Moderne Style" interior furnishings, clearly shows how architects, in the milieu of expanding commercial market, sought to align their profession as industrial designers.

Analysis on Pataphysics of Virtual Idol based on Game Character -Focus on K/DA (게임 캐릭터 기반 버추얼 아이돌의 파타피직스 연구 -K/DA를 중심으로)

  • K/DA is a K-pop virtual idol based on the game character. This study analyzed the creation process, characteristics and existential meaning of virtual idols from the perspective of Pataphysics. K/DA is a character with both characteristics of game character and K-pop girl group. Also, virtual character and real idol share the body through motion capture and augmented reality(AR). As a result, K/DA crosses virtual and reality, and at the same time becomes a pataphysical subject that does not belong to either virtual or reality. K/DA is suggested a third zone where digital subjects will be located in the future.

Analysis of Football Fans' Uniform Consumption: Before and After Son Heung-Min's Transfer to Tottenham Hotspur FC (국내 프로축구 팬들의 유니폼 소비 분석: 손흥민의 토트넘 홋스퍼 FC 이적 전후 비교)

  • Korea's famous soccer players are steadily performing well in international leagues, which led to higher interests of Korean fans in the international leagues. Reflecting the growing social phenomenon of rising interests on international leagues by Korean fans, the study examined the overall consumer perception in the consumption of uniform by domestic soccer fans and compared the changes in perception following the transfers of the players. Among others, the paper examined the consumer perception and purchase factors of soccer fans shown in social media, focusing on periods before and after the recruitment of Heung-Min Son to English Premier League's Tottenham Football Club. To this end, the EPL uniform is the collection keyword the paper utilized and collected consumer postings from domestic website and social media via Python 3.7, and analyzed them using Ucinet 6, NodeXL 1.0.1, and SPSS 25.0 programs. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the uniform of the club that consistently topped the league, has been gaining attention as a popular uniform, and the players' performance, and the players' position have been identified as key factors in the purchase and search of professional football uniforms. In the case of the club, the actual ranking and whether the league won are shown to be important factors in the purchase and search of professional soccer uniforms. The club's emblem and the sponsor logo that will be attached to the uniform are also factors of interest to consumers. In addition, in the decision making process of purchase of a uniform by professional soccer fan, uniform's form, marking, authenticity, and sponsors are found to be more important than price, design, size, and logo. The official online store has emerged as a major purchasing channel, followed by gifts for friends or requests from acquaintances when someone travels to the United Kingdom. Second, a classification of key control categories through the convergence of iteration correlation analysis and Clauset-Newman-Moore clustering algorithm shows differences in the classification of individual groups, but groups that include the EPL's club and player keywords are identified as the key topics in relation to professional football uniforms. Third, between 2002 and 2006, the central theme for professional football uniforms was World Cup and English Premier League, but from 2012 to 2015, the focus has shifted to more interest of domestic and international players in the English Premier League. The subject has changed to the uniform itself from this time on. In this context, the paper can confirm that the major issues regarding the uniforms of professional soccer players have changed since Ji-Sung Park's transfer to Manchester United, and Sung-Yong Ki, Chung-Yong Lee, and Heung-Min Son's good performances in these leagues. The paper also identified that the uniforms of the clubs to which the players have transferred to are of interest. Fourth, both male and female consumers are showing increasing interest in Son's league, the English Premier League, which Tottenham FC belongs to. In particular, the increasing interest in Son has shown a tendency to increase interest in football uniforms for female consumers. This study presents a variety of researches on sports consumption and has value as a consumer study by identifying unique consumption patterns. It is meaningful in that the accuracy of the interpretation has been enhanced by using a cluster analysis via convergence of iteration correlation analysis and Clauset-Newman-Moore clustering algorithm to identify the main topics. Based on the results of this study, the clubs will be able to maximize its profits and maintain good relationships with fans by identifying key drivers of consumer awareness and purchasing for professional soccer fans and establishing an effective marketing strategy.

A Comparative Study on the Color Features and Images of Professional Football Uniforms in Korea and Foreign Leagues (국내·외 리그별 프로축구 유니폼의 색채 특성과 이미지 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic information necessary to develop sports uniform design by comparing and analyzing the color features and images of professional football uniforms in Korea and foreign countries. The subjects of this study were limited to 5 top leagues in Europe (Premier League, Primera Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, and Ligue 1) as well as J-League, and K-League. This study was done using the 2012/2013 season home and away uniforms for European leagues and 2013 season home and away uniforms for Korean and Japan leagues. Using the Adobe photoshop CS2 eyedropper tool, color chips and RGB values were extracted from digital images and converted into HV/C of Munsell Conversion. Finally, a total of 735 colors were used for the analysis. The color image scale by Shigenobu Kobayashi was used to position the color images. The results are as follows. First, the color analysis of professional football uniforms in leagues suggested that chromatic color (53.7%) was more prevalent than achromatic color (46.3%). The two most common colors of the ten chromatic colors were R(19.7%) and PB(18.0%), followed by Y(5.4%), RP(2.0%), G(1.9), GY(1.8%), B(1.6%), YR(1.5%), P(1.1%), and BG(0.7%). Second, for the color tone comparison and analysis of professional football uniforms in leagues, the most commonly used color tone was W(28.4%), followed by v(25.5%), Bk(16.3%), s(5.8%), dk(5.2%), b/lt(5.2%), dp(3.0%), sf(2.0%), ltGy(1.0%), p(0.5%), G/dkGy(0.4%), and ltg/mGy (0.1%). Third, for the comparison and analysis of color and color tone of professional football uniforms in leagues, W(28.4%), R(v)(17.7%), and Bk(16.3%) were commonly used. Finally, for the comparison and analysis of color images of professional football uniforms in leagues, the most commonly used color image was a casual image(31.8%), followed by modern image(26.5%), dynamic12.8%), cool casual(12.0%), gorgeous(9.3%), clear(6.6%), chic(3.5%), and elegant images. Dandy, classical, romantic and pretty images(0.4% respectively) were also used.

Evaluating the quality of baseball pitch using PITCHf/x (PITCHf/x를 이용한 투구의 질 평가)

  • Major League Baseball (MLB) records and releases the trajectory data for every baseball pitch, called the PITCHf/x, using three high-speed cameras installed in every stadium. In a previous study, the quality of the pitch was assessed as the expected number of bases yielded using PITCHf/x data. However, the number of bases yielded does not always lead to baseball scores, or runs. In this paper, we assess the quality of a pitch by combining baseball analytics metric Run Expectancy and Run Value using a Random Forests model. We compare the quality of pitches evaluated with Run Value to the quality of pitches evaluated with the expected number of bases yielded.

A Case Reports of a Patient with Sjogren's Syndrome Treated with Gami-onchung-eum (가미온청음으로 호전된 쇼그렌 증후군 환자 치험 1례)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Korean medicine, especially Gami-onchung-eum, for treatment of a patient with Sjogren's syndrome. Methods: The patient, diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome, was suffering from systemic symptoms accompanied by dry mouth, dry eye, and fatigue. We treated her with Korean medicine involving a herbal decoction, acupuncture, moxibustion, and cupping. We used the European League Against Rheumatism $Sj{\ddot{o}}gren^{\prime}s$ Syndrome Patient Reported Index for assessment. Results: Based on the European League Against Rheumatism $Sj{\ddot{o}}gren^{\prime}s$ Syndrome Patient Reported Index, after 28 days of treatment, dry mouth decreased to a score of 5, dry eye decreased to 2, and fatigue decreased to 3. Conclusions: Korean medicine, including Gami-onchung-eum, may be an effective treatment for Sjogren's syndrome.

Analysis of YouTube Channels of Domestic Companies from IMC Perspective (IMC 관점에서 국내기업의 유튜브채널 분석)

  • This study conducted analysis of YouTube channels by domestic companies as the marketing strategies of domestic companies vary due to the rapid growth of the Internet and YouTube channels. The YouTube channel analysis analyzed the number of subscribers, plays, videos and classifications of domestic companies on YouTube channels, the top 100 domestic companies in the YouTube ranking site "Company/Official. The analysis showed that 4.53 million companies had the largest number of subscribers, Samsung mobile, 544.69 million circuit Samsung mobile, and 11,416 League of Legends-Korea channels had the largest number of videos. The most product classification showed that food/dining companies were engaged in a lot of YouTube activities. The use of YouTube, which is rapidly growing in companies through analyzing YouTube channels from the perspective of a company's new marketing strategy, is a new tool for integrated marketing communications. It is expected that the YouTube channel, which enables two-way communication of companies' marketing strategies, will be used as basic data when producing YouTube content in the future.

Estimating the determinants of victory and defeat through analyzing records of Korean pro-basketball (한국남자프로농구 경기기록 분석을 통한 승패결정요인 추정: 2010-2011시즌, 2011-2012시즌 정규리그 기록 적용)

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate the determinants of victory and defeat through analyzing records of Korean men pro-basketball. Statistical models of victory and defeat were established by collecting present basketball records (2010-2011, 2011-2012 season). Korea Basketball League (KBL) informs records of every pro-basketball game data. The six offence variables (2P%, 3P%, FT%, OR, AS, TO), and the four defense variables (DR, ST, GD, BS) were used in this study. PASW program was used for logistic regression and Answer Tree program was used for the decision tree. All significance levels were set at .05. Major results were as follows. In the logistic regression, 2P%, 3P%, and TO were three offense variables significantly affecting victory and defeat, and DR, ST, and BS were three significant defense variables. Offensive variables 2P%, 3P%, TO, and AS are used in constructing the decision tree. The highest percentage of victory was 80.85% when 2P% was in 51%-58%, 3P% was more than 31 percent, and TO was less than 11 times. In the decision tree of the defence variables, the highest percentage of victory was 94.12% when DR was more than 24, ST was more than six, and BS was more than two times.

A Prediction of Demand for Korean Baseball League using Artificial Neural Network (인공 신경망 모형을 이용한 한국프로야구 관중 수요 예측)

  • 본 연구는 기존의 수요 예측 등의 시계열 분석에서 주로 사용되는 ARIMA 모형의 어려움을 극복하고자 인공신경망(Artificial Neural Network) 모형을 이용하여 한국 프로 야구 관중 수를 예측하였다. 인공신경망의 가장 기본적인 종류인 전방향 신경망(Feedforward Neural Network)의 초모수(Hyperparameter) 선정에 그리드 탐색(Grid Search)을 적용하여 최적의 모형을 찾고자 하였다. 훈련 자료로는 2015년 3월부터 8월까지의 일별 KBO 관중 수 자료를 대상으로 하였고, 예측력 검증을 위해 2015년 9월 관중 수를 예측하여 실제 관측값과 비교하였다. 그 결과, 그리드 탐색법에서 최적 모형이라고 판단한 모형의 예측력은, 평균 절대 백분율 오차(MAPE) 기준으로 평균 27.14% 였다. 또한, 앙상블 기법에서 착안하여 오차율이 낮은 모형 5개의 예측값 평균의 MAPE는 평균 28.58% 였다. 이는 다중회귀와 비교해보았을 때, 평균적으로 각각 14%, 13.6% 높은 예측력을 보이고 있다.

Metaheuristic-hybridized multilayer perceptron in slope stability analysis

  • This research is dedicated to slope stability analysis using novel intelligent models. By coupling a neural network with spotted hyena optimizer (SHO), salp swarm algorithm (SSA), shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA), and league champion optimization algorithm (LCA) metaheuristic algorithms, four predictive ensembles are built for predicting the factor of safety (FOS) of a single-layer cohesive soil slope. The data used to develop the ensembles are provided from a vast finite element analysis. After creating the proposed models, it was observed that the best population size for the SHO, SSA, SFLA, and LCA is 300, 400, 400, and 200, respectively. Evaluation of the results showed that the combination of metaheuristic and neural approaches offers capable tools for estimating the FOS. However, the SSA (error = 0.3532 and correlation = 0.9937), emerged as the most reliable optimizer, followed by LCA (error = 0.5430 and correlation = 0.9843), SFLA (error = 0.8176 and correlation = 0.9645), and SHO (error = 2.0887 and correlation = 0.8614). Due to the high accuracy of the SSA in properly adjusting the computational parameters of the neural network, the corresponding FOS predictive formula is presented to be used as a fast yet accurate substitution for traditional methods.
