  • ICAO defines performance requirements of navigation system such as accuracy, integrity, continuity and availability. The integrity is most significant performance requirement in aviation where safety of life is crucial. Many researches on this topic anticipate that GPS with SBAS or Galileo can meet APV requirements and GPS with GBAS or Galileo with GBAS will meet CAT II and III requirements. These performance expectations are based on global analysis. In this paper regional integrity analysis in Korea using various combinations of modernized GPS, Galileo and SBAS is given. The simulation results show that CAT I requirement can be met using modernized GPS and Galileo alone, however, CAT II and III are not met even augmenting SBAS because of VPL. A more efficient augmentation such as GBAS which can reduce VPL dramatically is required to meet CAT II and III in Korean region.

  • Since instrument landing system currently operating in most airports is operating in single-pass, it is not possible to accommodate a large number of aircraft. A satellite navigation system GBAS using a GNSS has been developed to solve these limitation when air traffic increases. GBAS is better than the ILS in position accuracy and capable of landing through multiple paths rather than a single path, the aircraft can perform varied landing procedures. In this paper, after we established a virtual ILS procedures at Taean Airfield in which ILS installation is impossible due to environmental requirements and airspace restrictions, flight test was performed by Cessna Skyhawk 172 to compare the virtual ILS procedures and curved approach procedure and the advantage of curved approach was confirmed.

  • The Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) is influenced by environmental factors, making analysis in the installation region important. This study has proposed the sigma inflation of the B-value considering the satellite elevation angle and analyzed the Vertical Protection Level (VPL) of the H1 hypothesis. After collecting data that meet the environmental conditions of the installation region, sigma expansion coefficients by the unit of satellite elevation angle ($5^{\circ}$) have been estimated. The obtained results were functionalized through curve-fitting, and sigma inflation customized for the environmental conditions of the test region was proposed. Then, the characteristics were classified and analyzed depending on humidity and solar activities. According to the sigma inflation with respect to elevation angle analysis, changes in the size of sigma inflation factors by the difference of humidity were minor. However, the VPL under the satellite elevation angle-based sigma inflation met integrity. Also, considering the sigma inflation factor with respect to elevation angle, compared to existing methods, high-integrity and improved availability is confirmed by removing unnecessary margins in high elevation angle satellite.

  • A Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) is an enabling technology for an aircraft's precision approach based on a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). However, GBAS is vulnerable to interference, so effective GNSS interference detection and mitigation methods need to be employed. In this paper, an intentional GNSS interference detection and characterization algorithm is proposed. The algorithm uses Automatic Gain Control (AGC) gain and adaptive notch filter parameters to classify types of incoming interference and to characterize them. The AGC gain and adaptive lattice IIR notch filter parameter values in GNSS receivers are examined according to interference types and power levels. Based on those data, the interference detection and characterization algorithm is developed and Monte Carlo simulations are carried out for performance analysis of the proposed method. Here, the proposed algorithm is used to detect and characterize single-tone continuous wave interference, swept continuous wave interference, and band-limited white Gaussian noise. The algorithm can be used for GNSS interference monitoring in an excessive Radio Frequency Interference environment which causes loss of receiver tracking. This interference detection and characterization algorithm will be used to enhance the interference mitigation algorithm.

  • This paper proposes the DOA estimation method based on TDOA/AOA for jammer localization method in GBAS environment. The proposed method can effectively estimate DOA of jamming signal as the range for DOA estimation is reduced remarkably by using DOP and 1st approximate solution using TDOA measurements only. Through the proposed method, more precise DOA can be obtained and the performance of jammer localization is increased simultaneously. Also, the effectiveness of proposed method will be confirmed through the simulated results.

  • Ionospheric anomaly is one of the major error sources which deteriorate the GNSS performance. In the equatorial region, effects of the ionospheric plasma bubbles are of great interest because they are pretty common phenomena, especially in the period of the high solar activity. In order to evaluate the GNSS performance under circumstance of the bubbles, an ionospheric scintillation monitor has been developed and installed in Bangkok, Thailand. Furthermore, a model simulating the ionospheric delay and scintillation due to the bubbles has been developed. Based on these developments, the effects of the simulated plasma bubbles are analyzed and their agreement with the real observation is demonstrated. An availability degradation of the GPS ground based augmentation system (GBAS) caused by the bubbles is exampled in details. Finally, an integrated GPS/INS approach based on the Doppler frequency is proposed to remedy the deterioration.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the spatiotemporal cortical activation pattern and functional connectivity during visual perception of words. 61 channel recordings of electroencephalogram were obtained from 15 subjects while they were judging the meaning of Korean, English, and Chinese words with concrete meanings. We examined event-related potentials (ERP) and applied independent component analysis (ICA) to find and separate simultaneously activated neural sources. Spectral analysis was also performed to investigate the gamma-band activity (GBA, 30-50 Hz) which is known to reflect feature binding. Five significant ERP components were identified and left hemispheric dominance was observed for most sites. Meaningful differences of amplitudes and latencies among languages were observed. It seemed that familiarity with each language and orthographic characteristics affected the characteristics of ERP components. ICA helped confirm several prominent sources corresponding to some ERP components. The results of spectral and time-frequency analyses showed distinct GBAs at prefrontal, frontal, and temporal sites. The GBAs at prefrontal and temporal sites were significantly correlated with the LPC amplitude and response time. The differences in spatiotemporal patterns of GBA among languages were not prominent compared to the inter-individual differences. The gamma-band coherence revealed short-range connectivity within frontal region and long-range connectivity between frontal, posterior, and temporal sites.
