Purpose: The current descriptive study examined the health and healthcare status of preschoolers in poverty group compared to those of comparison group. Method: Data were collected from 51 mothers in federal poverty group and 49 in low-income group and 200 mothers in normal income comparison group in one city. The instruments used for this study were Korean CBCL and health related questionnaire. Results: Public assistance group showed more low-birth-weight infants, developmental delay, and hospital admission experiences. Their compliance for vaccination and congenital metabolic disorder test were lower than those of comparison group. Preschoolers' behavior problems were not significantly different depending upon the income of the group. Conclusion: Preschoolers' health and healthcare status are affected by the socioeconomic characteristics of the family. It indicated an need for anticipatory guidance and early intervention that might help to prevent or ameliorate potential health problems in poverty.
Purpose: The purposes of this descriptive survey study were to determine the relationships between the perception on the temperament and behavior problems of their children and mothers' characteristics with preschoolers. Method: Data were collected from 125 mothers of preschoolers in Kunpo city. The instruments used for this study were Korean CBCL, childrearing burden, mother's health questionnaire, and social support. Results: There were significant differences in the behavior problems according to preschooler's temperament. Difficult children were more hyperactive, withdrawn, aggressive, and premature in behavior. Preschoolers' behavior problems showed significant relationships with mothers' health problem, childrearing burden, and social support. Conclusion: Preschoolers' behavior problems are affected by their temperament, and related with mothers' characteristics. It is important to identify parents' perception on their children's temperament and behavior problems, and the parental role education programs are necessary.
This study examined the relationships between parenting styles, academic achievement, and behavioral adjustment of adolescents in Korea. Using a sample of 181 parents and their children (13-15 years old), parents completed the Parental Authority Questionnaire and adolescents filled out the Youth Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and provided their school grades. Factor analysis was conducted on the PAQ to confirm the psychometric properties. Hierarchical regression analysis was computed to determine the relationship between maternal and paternal parenting styles, academic performance, and children's internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Regression analysis revealed that mother's authoritative parenting style was positively related with adolescents' grades in English. However, father's permissive was negatively related with adolescents' grades in English, Mathematics, and Science. Mother's permissive parenting styles showed negative effects of internalizing and externalizing behavior problems whereas father's permissive parenting styles showed positive effects of internalizing and externalizing behavior problems.

Since the introductionof modern therapies, more children with cancer have survived their illness. As a result, an interest in the degree of adjustment achieved by cancer survivors has increased. In this study, quality of life and behavior problemsof child and adolescent cancer survivors were compared with those of healthy controls. Also, the patternsof the discrepancy between parent-report and self-report were compared. Childhood cancer survivors aged 8-18 and their mothers were participated in the study. Parent and self report versions of PedQL were administered to assess the quality of life. K-CBCL and K-YSR were further completed to assess internalizing and externalizing behavior problem. Results suggested that cancer survivors generally showed lower quality of life in physical and social domains and more internalizing behavior problem than healthy control group. However, the results were affected by the domain, age group, and informant. The pattern of discrepancy between parent and self report was similar. All parents reported higher levelsof quality of life and lower levels of behavior problems compared to the self reports of their siblings. In assessing internalizing problem behaviors, cancer survivor group showed greater discrepancy than the healthy control group. The implications, limitations, and directions for future research were also discussed.

Object:This study was carried out to classify adolescents in runaway shelters by evaluating their psychopathology. And the ultimate purpose is to offer basic data for preventing adolescents‘ runaway and for diversifying runaway shelters suitable for the problem of individual adolescent. Method:128 adolescents who stay in the runaway shelters were asked to complete self-report qeustionnaires including basic sociodemographic data, Child Behavior Check List(CBCL), Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI), and Symptom Check List-90-Revised(SCL-90-R). Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(K-WAIS)[or Korean Educational Developmental Institute-Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children(KEDI-WISC)] and Bender-Gestalt test(BGT) were also done by clinical psychologists. Results:The most common age of the subjects were 15-year-old, and they dropped out their schools in the middle school most commonly. Mostly they were from middle class family and their parents' educational level were high school graduates. The first runaway episode was most common in the middleschool period, and their runaways were repeated. The most common frequency of runaways were more than 10 times. About 10% of them abused drugs and about 80% of them abused alcohol. One third of them had experiences of illegal problems and 10% of them engaged in sexual activity for money. 95 adolescents(83%) in CBCL, 42 adolescents(36%) in SCL-90-R, and 70 adolescents(69.3%) in MMPI showed clinical significance. In intelligence test, 22 adolescents(22%) were mentally retarded. In BGT, 35 adolescents(39.4%) manifested brain dysfunction signs. Conclusion:Runaway adolescents in the shelters have variable and severe psychopathology. Their psychopathology is classified as follows; The behavior disorder group, the mood disorder group with anxiety/depression, the somatic disorder group with somatic symptoms, and the psychosis group with possibility of severe psychopathology. Therefore it is very important to evaluate psychiatric problems of runaway adolescents, and specific therapeutic interventions according to their problems are required.

The purpose of this study was to examine the nature of psychopathology and psychosocial environments of children with Atopic Dermatitis(AD) and their relationship to skin symptoms. Seventy outpatients with AD(mean age 9.94, range 4-15 years) and their mothers were subjected to psychiatric interview and parent- and self-report questionnaire(CBCL, MBRI, CDI, Spielberger's State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children(STAI), Family Impact questionnaire). Disease severity was assessed in three dimensions(skin extent, disease activity, and subjective symptom) by SCORAD index. Sixteen(22.9%) of our sample were suspected to have behavioral-emotional problems and they were different from non-problem group on depression, trait-anxiety, maternal controlling attitude and negative appraisal of children. While skin inflammation activity was correlated with only trait-anxiety and depression, subjective skin symptoms were correlated with many psychosocial factors such as depression, state-and traitanxiety, family-impact, social competence, internalized and externalized behavioral problem, sexual problem, and mother's positive appraisal of children). We concluded that children with AD are highrisk group for behavioral-emotional problems, and these problems along with maternal negative parenting attitude can affect their subjective symptom experience.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the association between current suicidal or violent behavior and deficits of specific neurocognitive variables in child and adolescent inpatient samples diagnosed with mood disorder. Methods: A retrospective review of the charts of mood disorder patients hospitalized at Samsung Medical Center between April 2004 and April 2015 was conducted. Child and adolescent patients aged between 10 and 18 years old and those who finished neurocognitive function testing during their hospitalization were included. Among them patients whose full scale IQ was between 85 and 115 were selected (N=111). Participants were first divided into two age-groups-group Y ($10{\leq}age{\leq}15$, N=54) and group O ($16{\leq}age{\leq}18$, N=57)-because neurocognitive function test tools were different according to age [Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) for 10 to 15-year-old patients, Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS) for 16 to 18-year-old patients]. They were then divided according to their suicidal or violent behavior-non suicidal/violent group (NG), suicidal group (SG), violent group (VG), and both suicidal/violent group (BG). The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) was checked for measurement of participants' behavior and the Gordon Diagnostic System was checked for measurement of their attention efficiency. Kruskal-Wallis Test and Tukey test was used to determine the differences in neurocognitive function between groups. Results: O-SG patients showed lower scores on the comprehension subscale of WAIS-III than O-NG patients (${\chi}^2=8.454$, p=.015). O-VG patients showed lower scores on the block design subscales of WAIS than O-SG patients (${\chi}^2=7.496$, p=.024). Y-VG patients showed higher scores in aggressive behavior, externalizing problems, and total problems scores of CBCL. Conclusion: This study showed relationship between specific neurocognitive deficits and suicidal or violent behavior. These relationships were significant in relatively older adolescents.
Objective: This study examined the relationships among preschoolers' temperament, intelligence, and problem behaviors. Intelligence was individually measured by the newly standardized K-WPPSI-IV (2015). Methods: The participants were 113 children (4-6 years old), their mothers and teachers. The following instruments were administered: EAS, K-WPPSI-IV, K-CBCL. Descriptive and correlational analyses were performed using SPSS 18.0. Results and Conclusion: The major results were as follows. First, sociability of temperament was negatively correlated with depression, withdrawal, and internalizing problem behavior. Second, activity and sociability of temperament were positively correlated with the most of the K-WPPSI-IV major indices (VCI, VSI, FRI, PSI, FSIQ, NVI, GAI, CPI). Third, depression, withdrawal, and internalizing problem behavior were negatively correlated with NVI and CPI indices of the K-WPPSI-IV. Attention problem and externalizing problem behavior were negatively correlated with FRI, WMI, FSIQ, NVI, GAI, and CPI indices of K-WPPSI-IV.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of violin learning as to enhance the attention span and impulsiveness of children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(ADHD). Three children with ADHD, grade 2, 3, 4 were selected to participate in the research. A total of 15 session were given during 8 week time span, including a final performance session. For measurement, Korean-Child Behavior Checklist(K-CBCL), Home Situation Questionnaire-Revised (HSQ-R), Conners Teacher Rating Scale-Revised (CTRS-R) were administered before and after the implementation. Other behavioral checklist were used to record inappropriate or interruptive behaviors. The results showed that violin learning has increased attention span and reduced impulsive behaviors of all three children with ADHD. Along with these changes, the identified inappropriate behaviors reduced as sessions progressed. Also the changes observed within the music environment were generalized to non-music environment, such as family and school. These results also indicate that violin can be a therapeutic medium used in music therapy setting to bring positive changes for children with ADHD problems.
This study is to investigate the effect of music therapy Program on Problem Behaviors and Social Skills Children with ADHD. The participants of the study were first and second graders in B elementary school in J city. They were observed in unsuitable behavioral patterns in school life by their homeroom teachers. Fifteen participants were divided into control and experimental group: The control group was eight and the experimental group was seven. Group music therapy was conducted two times a week for seven-week period. It took 35-40 minutes per therapy after school. Child Behavior Checklist-Korean, Social Skills Rating System, Social Acceptance were administered in pre- and post-stages. For the analysis of the data, Mann-Whitney U test was used. The findings from the research are summarized as follows: 1) The experimental group who was treated in music therapy showed a positive effect on problem behaviors. That is to say, the participants in the experimental group improved in emotional and cognitive stability while they significantly decreased attack behaviors; 2) The experimental group statistically showed significant improvement in their social behaviors compared to the control group. The music therapy group significantly increased social skills such as cooperation, self-assertion, and self-control. However, they did not improve responsibility as social skills in a significant manner; and 3) The experimental group showed higher degree of social acceptance than the control group. However, the result did not show a significant difference between the groups. In conclusion, the study proved positive effects of music therapy on ADHD children's uncarefulness, attack behaviors, and social skills for seven-week experimental period.
